Jon and Kate Plus 8 official Thread, Part 2!!

I don't see anything wrong with a parent naming pets, especially when there are 8 kids who will argue over it. I imagine Maddy would have been even more dramatic if Cara's(or Joel's) name was picked over hers. I do think Kate was stupid to get two big dogs with her personality. Dogs area lot of mess and a lot of work! Puppies are about 4x as time consuming as dogs. Cats are much easier to get used to, IMHO.

After a phone call from my mom yesterday I am a little more concerned about the choice of dogs.

My brother has a huge German Shepherd that he got as a puppy from a very reputable breeder. 2 days ago my niece opened the door and let the dog out, the dog ran next door and bit their neighbor for no reason at all. My DH said, "did the neighbor get hurt?" Uh...hello, the dog is over 100 pounds, I'm sure it hurt! So now they have to wait 10 days and put the dog down.

My niece is in hysterics because it's her fault because she wasn't allowed to let the dog out like that and now he has to be put down.

The dog was friendly once you were in the house and loved the family but he was very protective. They have no choice now but to put him down because they wouldn't be able to trust him anymore and would always worry. Plus the neighbors have small children and what if one of them were outside at the time. He is about 7 years old and very well behaved.

It's just so sad :sad2:

So, with all that happening in my family, I worry just a bit more about them getting German Shepherds.

I will say it did seem a little odd to me that with that many children in the house and the camera crews coming in and out that they didn't pick a dog more "friendly." Don't get me wrong, I know any breed of dog can be great (we had a pit bull that was the sweetest thing ever,) but I would have chosen probably a lab.

I finally got around to watching the puppy episode...

"Mommy is mean!" :rotfl: That was the best line of the show!

We got our dog about a year ago. I had all different names swirling in my head (mostly girl names). When he picked us, my dd was upset because she wanted a girl dog (to name princess) but the girl dog was really not interested in us. To get her to stop crying, I was trying to come up with different boy names, telling her she could pick the name. Finally my DS said something about the puppy licking my husband's scruffle (unshaven face). I jokingly said "scruffles" and that's the name she liked. So we have Scruffles. I would have preferred Einstein or Regis but Scruffles it is.

MichelleVW: Sorry you're family is going through this with the dog. I feel awful for your niece but of course it isn't her fault.

I do wonder how long the pupplies will last with JK+8. Jon said he loved them already.:confused3

Did any of you hear Aaden? He said he was going to name the dog "Scott" which is the camera man. I thought it was funny and sad at the same time. They are closer to them than anyone else. When that camera crew does leave, those kids will grieve.

They also said they should name them "Mommy" and "Daddy."

Aww, your poor niece! I hope they keep telling her it's not her fault!! :flower3:

Oh, that is too bad. I am sorry.

Is there anyone they might know that lives out in the country that have no neighbors that would take the dog? It sounds like he is basically a good dog and just can't be trusted with strangers.

That's what my DH suggested, but it's just too dangerous an option because you would just never know.

Everyone feels horrible about this, but I think it's the only safe option for everyone. The poor neighbor was just out checking her mail, not even on their property.

In most cases if a dog "attacks" unprovoked. Animal Control will require that the animal be put down.

Hi! My name is Lynn and I'm addicted to J&K+8 info!

Here I am sitting at Disney and I'm reading this thread on the DISboards! :rotfl: Just waiting for our friend's flight to land so we can go get them and try and find some dinner and head to DTD for a little while tonight.

I'm jealous...but I will be there in a couple weeks!!!

I'm watching a Disney show on the travel channel that I've seen a million times before!

Oh yeah, stay on topic..Poor Jon, Kate is mean...:rotfl:

Actually, I haven't seen a full episode in a while. I catch bits and pieces when it's rerun throughout the week or if they do a marathon at odd hours. I'm more of a debater than a JK8er. Can't stand to let a good argument pass.

I'm more of a debater than JK8 hater, how's that one?!

:rotfl2:

I wonder if the ex-boss will take any legal action. If his account is true, and he does, Beth, Kate and Jon could be in trouble for the book.

That wasn't a bad read, actually. A lot of the linked articles aren't worth the paper they aren't printed on, but aside from a few obvious hiccups (the lady who said the kids were exploited...but only once they pulled out of her speaking engagement), it wasn't entirely biased.

Everyone always asks where the Gosselin's friends, family, etc. are, but I wonder where the credible investigative reporters are. All of these exposes are from no-name internet "reporters" and small town papers. Anyone and their PennMommy can post things online, throw in a few local names and claim they're true, but I'm pretty skeptical of a "publication" without public trust and reputation.

the author of the Philly magazine article has written a follow-up:

Welcome to the thread. I was trying to figure out how you had 2,431 posts since joining the DisBoard this month. :scared1: Then I realized that your join date was last year.

How egotistical to think you know what the right decision is for someone else's family.

Didn't seem to bother them much toward the end of the show. Doubt it's going to be something the throw in Kate's face, as someone mentioned. There are a lot more issues these kids will face as a result of their family's fame and success. Naming dogs probably won't be too high on the list.

Can I just ask a question without getting slammed or flamed? Every post I see from you, you seem to be defending this woman and all her actions to the death. Why is that? I am thinking she could run over some old lady in her car or sacrifice one of the dogs in a Satanic ritual and you would find some way to explain it or defend it or justify it for Kate. I am just wondering why.:confused3

I'm Kate.

No, not really. Have you been following the thread long? Believe me, I've made my share of jokes and pokes (there I go again) at Kate's expense. I would defend anyone if I felt they were being wrongly accused or called out for something that I felt was wrong. Again, it's the deb8er (not JK8er) in me. In general, I'm a very passionate person. I'll go head to head when I believe I'm right. You should have seen me in my college religious ethics class.

ETA: Now, will you be asking our carnival friend if she would bash Kate if she gave a million dollars to charity or a kidney to her child? ;)

I was so sad to miss Travel Channel today. I was leaving right as DCL came on.

I guess I'll just have to settle for a trip to Disney. Ho-hum...

I'm more of a debater than JK8 hater, how's that one?!

:rotfl2:

Do you like Lightning and Mater? Maybe later.

Did she interview herself? That's not biased. :upsidedow

I'm not seeing a balance in her sources. That's a little upsetting because I thought it was, at least, a well thought-out piece (which is more than I can say for most of them). I retract my statement regarding the original article. Shoulda done my research. :headache: :rotfl:

I don't know, did she? I didn't think she did .. it says a Q & A with Jessica Remo, not a Q & A by Jessica Remo. I got the impression it was addressing concerns expressed by readers of the first article?

I don't know, it seems to me like she made an effort for balance in her sources, but her sources didn't cooperate. That doesn't really surprise me, based on speculation here and elsewhere.

I find this statement particularly interesting:

Why hasn’t this information been published in the mainstream media before?
Probably because no one has had the time or patience to confirm it all. The reporting on this took me more than two months and included persuading a lot of people to talk to me.
