I believe Kate had IUF. They gave her fertitlity drugs monitered when she ovulated (this can cause multiple eggs) then inserted the sperm. The California lady had IVF. They gave her fertility drugs, harvested eggs, fertilized them in the lab, then inserted the fertilized eggs back into her. In Kates case they did not know how many eggs would make it to the womb and fertilize. In the California case she knew exactly how many eggs she had left from the earlier IVF's and had an exact number placed.

are IUF and IUI the same thing? I googled, and think I read that Kate had IUI. I still don't know what that means, LOL .. your explanation helps, though. thanks!

My sister had the same treatment as Kate quite a few times and nothing ever came of it. :sad1:

People like that lady in California make me mad, my poor sister has tried for years to just have one baby and that lady had six and still wasn't satisfied and went in for MORE fertility treatments.

Just an FYI: J & K go to WDW is on this afternoon. It's 3-4 mountain time and I think 5 eastern.

Thanks, I could tell Kate was not happy.
she wasn't happy, and neither was Mady. and Mady's 8. Just wait until the hormones start to rage. hooo boy. :lmao:

and I found it really sad that even the anchor on Access Hollywood that Mady has a mouth on her (or something like that). It's bad enough that people say that sort of thing on boards and blogs, it's another thing for it to be said on national TV, on a show that isn't JK8.

I had lunch with a friend today. She's a midwife, and she had plenty to say about the octuplet story - not just the mom, but the doctor as well. (The friend knows I watch Jon & Kate, but we don't talk about the show or anything) We talked about this morning's interviews on The Today Show and the other night on Larry King Live. My friend says to me - I don't know what that Kate woman was doing on Larry King. I wouldn't want my name associated, good or bad, with that octuplet mom. Kate should have said no to that. Interesting, I thought.

Kate Gosselin wasn't satisfied .. she wanted just one more and knew there was a chance she'd have multiples again.

edited to add: I believe there is a BIG difference between these women.

but this reasoning is why I think Kate needs to stay away from this story ...

:sad1: I'm so sorry.

Yeah, it totally sucks because she would be an awesome mom.

(this is why I think Kate needs to stay away from this story ... )

While I totally agree in theory, I think there's a big difference in having one set of twins and hoping for one more and having 6 and trying again.

I agree my co-worker and i was talking about this earlier she thinks the same thing. Kate had TWO pregnancies and the other girl had 8 BIG difference.

oh, I agree. I can totally see the difference ... I edited my earlier post to reflect that.

but there are people out in the internet world who suggest Kate's motives for just one more are not as innocent as she claims. That's why I think she should stay far, far away from the octuplets story.

I haven't read all that much about the octuplets .. are the first 6 children all single births? No other sets of multiples?

Oh gotcha...then we are on the same page on this.

7, 6, 5, 3 and 2-year-old twins

we are. :) that octuplet mother makes me :scared: :crazy2: and :faint:

kate makes just me  but it's not for the same reason, not even a little bit.

I wasn't very clear in what I was getting at - I was trying to make a point about why I think Kate shouldn't be doing a lot of press surrounding this story. I didn't do a very good job of that. sorry!

Back to the IUI discussion - I remember hearing somewhere that Kate had u/s monitoring during the cycle where she conceived the tups which showed 3, possibly 4 mature follicles. She chose to go ahead with the cycle and ended up being surprised that 7 eggs were fertilized (one did not survivie).

She had also been hospitalized in the past with hyper-stimulated ovaries, and had a set of twins.

She is choosing her words carefully, because while they set out in the beginning they set out to have just one, even before fertilization, she knew there would be a very strong possibility of multiples.

That's pretty close to what she said in her LK interview. Again, I'm going to say that the only people who will not see the obvious differences in these two cases are just not that intelligent and probably not influential.

In the oct's mom's defense, I wouldn't have reduced, either. That is the only thing I feel I can defend in her entire story. However, I wouldn't implant eight embryos in the first place. When the time comes, if I'm not able to conceive naturally (I have PCOS, the same thing Kate does), I would probably go Kate's route and take my chances. I'd like to leave some of it to fate.

Are you kidding, this is a PR dream!! Everyone I talk to knows who they are. Now, compared to this lady, they look ten tines better. They're going to tear it up with interviews!! From a PR prac. POV, I'd have Kate send things to the new mom. Makes her look benevolent without having to really support her decision.

I wonder how those who begrudge JK having all these extras will feel about this mom who is draining her family.

Okay, now I would ask everyone to give the same courtesy they ask others to give to Kate. No judgements on this woman, please.

No judgements? Are you kidding? Isn't that what all the J&K talk is about? You cannot pop out 8 babies after being the mother of 6 and expect that people are not going to talk about it.

To which comment are you referring? It can't be the "draining her family" part, because we all have evidence of that (parents are bankrupt from helping to support this family). Is it the "JK look ten times better" comparatively, because I'm willing to bet that's what the majority of people would think if the two were side-by-side.

There is public, known evidence to back up the opinions regarding this woman, where there is little, if any, confirmed evidence regarding the criticism of JK.

I missed you when you were MIA after your WDW trip and computer virus! Remember?

whatever happened to Sha_lyn? I figured as soon as I came back with an opinion, she wouldn't be far behind ... :lmao:

:rotfl: You know who I'm talking about!! Besides, you and I almost always have the same POV. Makes it kinda hard to debate.

I don't have time to read everything in depth, but I had to make sure Cam knew I wasn't dogging her!!

LOL. Hope you know I was just kidding.

Haven't read what I've missed yet; too busy right now with snow, ice and middle school drama. And now I'm getting ready to go back to WDW in 9 days.:dancing:

For now I'll just say that the new multi-birth mom has me feeling icky.

OK - now I'll go back and read what everyone else thinks.:upsidedow

no judgements on the $2 million she reportedly asked Oprah for?

no judgements on the fact that she no way to support a family .. has 6 children and undergoes a fertility treatment to become pregnant again?

mmmkay ..
