I'm not sure if you're speaking to me or to Whitney, but I wasn't arguing. I want to see your links. I tried googling, but have no idea what it is I'm looking for.

And I'm serious, if they're not classified as actors ... then what does it matter what child labor laws there are, anywhere? they don't apply to the Gosselins, because those kids aren't actors. I don't understand, from either side, what the argument is. It seems like a moot point to me. I'm just trying to understand. that's all.

You are correct. IF they became classified as employed performers within the state of NC, there would be no protection offered by law. It would make no difference what they are "called."

In the case of other states (maybe PA?), the classification of "actor" could offer guidelines/protection/laws, whatever. That's why Paul Peterson's group wants kids like them to be considered employed actors. When labor laws apply from both the federal and state level, it is not automatically the federal law that prevails. It is the one that offers the most protection.

I have no opinion on this subject, which came up a few pages back, only offering a little knowledge as a North Carolinian. ;)

thanks for clearing that up.

so if they stay in PA, then no one changes the classification ... and what happens? Nothing. Right?

I still don't get the fuss. :lmao:

if the advocates succeed and reality show kids get designated as performers or actors then existing PA child labor law would require a work permit-which for kiddos under the age of 7 is very restrictive and protective (and IMHO very uncondusive to the manner in which even j&k report the show is filmed), kids over age 7 have protections and working limitations as well. NC on the other hand exempts all minors designated as performers and actors from child labor laws, so even if the groups were successful in their efforts, kids designated under this critera would have no similar protections what so ever.

I'll try to find the links tomorrow. Hopefully google will be friendly. I didn't book mark them or anything. I'm heading to bed.

Even though the point is (At this point) moot I did find this that says that in NC that child actors /entertainers need a Youth Employment Certificate from county social services
http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/state/childentertain.htm

The chart also contradicts what I had found earlier that stated that most states do not have laws in reguards to child actors/entertainers. I tend to believe the chart since it is from the US dept of Labor

Hi, just to change the subject. I see that the Nov.Good Housekeeping is out, with thier family on the cover, that was last weeks show. The photo shoot. Anyway has anyone bought the Nov. copy? Any good?

Youth Employment Certificates, commonly referred to as worker's permits are required by all employed minors in NC. Basic info is recorded such as name, dob, address, employer, job description, etc. Parents, employees and employers have to sign them. You can fill them out and submit them to DSS on line. Employers keep signed copies on file. No guidelines for minor performers, actors, or models are included in this permit.

agreed...pointless exchange since they aren't "working" and will probably end up in NC!

Guess it didn't work. Changing the subject, that is.

I was wondering when it would hit the stands. I may head over to Sam's to pick one up tomorrow. Sam's is up to 40% off cover price!! Kate would be so proud! :rotfl:

I purchase my copy two days ago. The cover photo is wonderful, Kate is movie star gorgeous! There are several other photos inside, one on the contents page(a cute candid)and a two page photo on the article's opening page.

The article is a summary of their lives and how the show evolved. An excerpt from their book "Multiple Blessings" is included.

My copy of their book arrived yesterday. I'm hoping to read it within the next few days. :goodvibes

Has anyone heard that they are going to be adopting?? I keep hearing that then I saw some kind of preview that said some family changes coming

I'm getting my copy this weekend. Yes, Kate is movie star gorgeous! I'm so happy for this young family's success. Jon and Kate clearly love their children very much. I'm so glad they are financially well off now and apparently a very happy household.

I got my copy in the mail the other day. I haven't read the article yet. Thought the cover was cute ... although I'm usually not a fan of cover pics, of anyone.... They're usually so heavily edited that the people end up not looking like people. All that airbrushing, LOL. :rotfl:

I believe that was mentioned in the People magazine article. They want to adopt a baby from Korea.

thanks to everyone for answering my questions about this - covering all the aspects of the issue. I'll try to read up on it a little more this weekend. Like everyone else, I've heard the rumors of moving, likelihood of it being NC because of the law, but never really understood why it's such a pressing issue.

I guess it's one of those situations that we'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

and found it to be really interesting. i learned quite a few things about their first year with the six that i hadn't heard before. i like watching the show because the kids are so cute but i cringe sometimes at both kate and jon. i also think about how i would come off on tv if i were being filmed like that. i do know that i couldn't handle 8 kids - no matter what ages they are.

At the end of the Good Housekeeping article it also mentions they want to adopt a baby. My 1st thought- they wont all be able to fit in that sprinter van of theres right? Its a 10 seater. :) Maybe its time for a bus then.

Anyways.... Ive been following this thread since it began, but never posted. Love the show... it has good moments and bad.... but hey, thats the way life is. I dont love Kate, I dont hate her. But- I think shes human and I admire her for keeping it real... becuase I appreciate that as a Mom. We all have our good days, and we all have our bad days.

Jon and Kate are ineligible for adoption from Korea since they have more than 5 children. That's only a policy guideline and not a legal requiremen, but local adoption agencies can be expected to follow that. Also adoption from Korea can take up to 4 years so even if they were eligible for an adoption it most likely would not be happening any time soon.

Everywhere I have heard about the adoption thing, it's always "WANT to adopt", not "going to adopt" or "plan to adopt".
