I'm walking out the door right now, but want to comment on this point real quick .. ;)

I still get many, many hits on my blog post titled "Aunt Jodi's video" every week. I think the interest is still out there on it. People are still talking about it.

Which proves my point! Thanks, maRge! :rotfl: I was referring to JK8 chatter. If people quit talking about them, they cease to be marketable. Even if the talk is controversial, it keeps them on the radar.

I agree with your comment (in response to mine). I agree those from PA may have a bit more "real" info since they're more "in the thick of it". I'm just surprised I guess that more people aren't coming out (either good or bad - I'd love to hear either just to clear up the rumors) speaking about J&K and the family.

I agree that there has to be a strict list of questions to be asked and their answers. Dr. Phil of all people, seems to be the one who would have researched this in detail before having them on the show and keeping up with them (it just seems to me that the Dr Phil staff really do a lot of homework before having people on the show- not just booking the current "hot" celeb). It also seems like he'd be the one who would call them out if he found that something didn't jive....I guess in my mind that makes it more confusing partially. (did that make sense??)

i thought the dr. phil episodes kate was on were realy stuctured oddly. he interviewed her because (he said) she could honestly relate to the challenges and demands of having so many little ones coming into your home. then he basicly just had her talk about how many volunteers they had in place but even with the volunteers what a physical strain it is on the parent(s). a bit later he had a panel of people on and they were talking about the financial costs of medical care for multiples and they launched into a discussion of the public perception of someone using medicaid type programs for this-here was an opportunity that (for me) it seems like kate should have been included in the discussion. at the time of their medicaid appeal she chose to make public in interviews the arguments she/john made in their appeal for their kid's medicaid continuance (those hearing are not public-confidentiality laws prevent disclosure). she said she and john had strong beliefs that since medical science can facilitate multiple births then the public is obligated to financialy support multiple birth kids-not just hers but all. if dr. phil was going to have the panel discuss the topic of public dissention on this issue it seems if kate realy meant what she previously said, and does advocate public support of this manner this would have been a great addition to the discussion-and offered her the opportunity to advocate what she's previously publicly held as her/john's position on the subject.

it just seemed realy wierd-not only was'nt she included in that part of the discussion, unlike the other guests who were interviewed earlier and then sat in the audience while she got interviewed-the minute they finished with her she was'nt seen again (on the set or sitting with the others in the audience).

I agree with the PP regarding the Dr Phil and how she was done with her couple of minutes she was out. I also noticed at the end he thanked "TLC's Kate Gosselin"....that just sounds weird to me - shouldn't it be like Mom of 8 Kate or Kate of J&K+8 not TLC's Kate???

i don't know how reliable wiki is but whatever they are making i hope they have sound financial investment advice. when those sources of income run out (and they inevitably will) they better have plenty socked away based on the numbers dr. phil ran on just the basic cost of raising 8 kids. i can't imagine what either would get if they returned to their orginial professions would be sufficient (even if they scaled WAY back in the way they seem to live).

i gotta wonder if there won't be a change of tone to the show in not yet produced episodes. it seems like tlc's been adjusting the content of their stuff to reflect more of what most people are having to deal with economicaly. more stuff on how to cut corners and make it, less of the overblown stuff. the first few episodes of the new season of little people big world are looking more like charitable work and at home stuff. the inital episodes of the duggar's new show had them traveling but now it's doing local freebie type activities, charitable outreach, and gearing the focus back to bulk and used item buying-AND on a recent episode where jim bob and michelle travelled to california to make a speech at a church they seemed to realy focus on how appreciative they were of his parents coming over and helping to take care of the kids, how they might not do everything/have the exact same rules as them (and how the younger ones might take advantage of it:rotfl: ) but that was something that happened when you asked family to help out. makes me think that the duggars also read the anti gosselin stuff-and they look at the criticisms and tailor their episodes accordingly.

i think if the show is to continue there will need to be a shift-show less of the overblown vacations and "date nights" (i get that with that many kids you would realy appreciate it, but the reality is most people eliminated those from their budgets long ago and are now dealing with just keeping their old roof over their head-not a mega new one). people could probably kind of relate when the show started and how expensive it was to raise the kids, how planning and staying on a schedual was important-now i doubt that anyone who watches it can realy relate. i just can't imagine there are too many people in the current state of the economy who are even considering buying way up in a home, taking trips, going to costly places, continuing with expensive activities-esp. when they are in a place in their lives where they have one let alone 6 kids entering private school.

I wouldn't go by anything on Wiki. Most of it (if not all) is information from internet users, I believe. As in, no one's full-time job is research. We weren't even allowed to say "Wiki" in college.

They also don't film every week of the year. So, there goes the credibility of that estimate.

You're posting that on the DIS?? Home of those who take yearly, if not more, trips to the Happiest (and one of the costliest family-oriented) Place on Earth?

Yes, they have a new house and take fun trips, but Kate still gripes about coupons, talks about economizing, etc. We're similar in that respect. We have nice things, a couple of cars, take our Disney trip(s), take our NYC trip, have shopping weekends, etc., but I still look for bargains, love freebies, sell at our consignment sale, cruise the Budget Board and clip coupons. I do those things so we can enjoy the luxe perks without a thought. Being relatable and well-off aren't mutually exclusive.

I agree - I don't know anything about it but knew those brainy DISers would be able to steer me straight! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info on Wiki - it sounded really high to me but heck - I'd take what they make an episode!

I guess I don't know - it would really be nice to see what they're really living on a week. I know we'll never see that number but imagine the families they could help (mine included) by a family that really knows how to crunch the numbers and get the best deal possible and live on a reasonable amount/week or month. I'd love tips to be able to cut my budget back. I use coupons and cut corners throughout the year so we're able to go to Disney last minute like we're doing with friends next weekend or another trip or whatever...we still do fun stuff and don't make a ton of money. My husband laughs that even if we made millions I'd still be on the budget board buying generic stuff yelling at him for not using coupons (gosh that sounds like Kate! :rotfl: ) and I know in my heart I would because deep down, every penny I spend I think over (and over and over) to be sure it's the best way that penny's spent. If I spend too much on x we can't do y is how I justify it to myself and keep my budget in check (most of the time).

For that matter, are any of the bloggers, etc. that stick PA on a username really from Pennsylvania? Haha!! I think it's kind of suspicious that every other commenter on a blog I was looking at yesterday (can't remember which one, but it was about the Jon fiasco) was PAteacher or PAmom, etc., etc. So many people claim to be insiders but no one can ever back it up with anything.

I still think Julie's blog had some awfully good timing for JK8 publicity. Then, all of a sudden (after the PR explosion) she quit writing.

If they quit talking about you, you're finished. Even if the conversation is controversial, they're still talking.

I AM!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

and the same can be said for Aunt Jodi and that video of hers, which proves my point ;)

wiki isn't really a credible source. my kids have been taught that in school, when writing research papers. LOL.

The Gosselin info comes up quite often on GWOP (or it did back in the summer) .. I think the GWOP people have been known to go back and alter the information when they see fit

i would'nt be so much interested to see what their "income" is as what they have to report to the irs.

there were some nasty (for celebs) changes to irs laws a few years ago where allot of the things they got gifted became taxable (i remember that magazine reported that once the celebs had to start signing receipts for the stuff they got in those "swag bags" at events they were'nt so taking as many:rotfl: ). so the vacations, the free clothing, spa days, child care, gratis plastic surgery (and the stuff the gwop's seethe about) might not appear as a part of their income but probably might show up on their return. a person's income in their situation might not come near to reflecting what they get in non monetary payments (same thing happened with my welfare clients-on an income verification they looked destitute, but when you started adding up the value of the housing they got, the childcare, the utility bills, the car insurance we paid for them, the clothing allowances, the free camperships for their kids-the tuition waivers they received at the college, full medical coverage.....DANG-they were off the charts income vs. cost of living).

With 8 kids, anything they owe, is probably wiped out by the child tax credit. I wish that credit would of been around when my kids were little. Isn't the credit something like $1,000 x 8 is $8,000 off their tax bill. That doesn't include the exemption for each one either. But the $1,000 a piece goes right off the tax due.

I didn't read all the posts from today so sorry if this was already mentioned, but I was reading at the JK8forum and word is over there that the puppies have already been cut out of the show. They are saying that allergies will be the reason that we will be given.

Did anyone see Joel McHale ( who is a first-class cutie) from The Soup mock out Jon & Kate tonight? He showed the clip of her berating him for "talking over" her. At the end he said, "You know Jon, Octomom is available!"
J & K seem to be great fodder for The Soup.

Elaborate. I'm not sure what your point was (is). Jodi is trying to stay in the public eye? :confused3  :upsidedow

that was hours ago. I'm not sure, either. :lmao:

But now that you mention it .. in her own way, Jodi may be trying to stay in the public eye. Not so much the public eye for herself, but to passive aggressively continue to cast a shadow of doubt over her relationship with Kate. If Jodi were truly tired of the attention, then she would have had Julie remove the Truth Breeds Hatred blog. The blog is still there. I would assume it still gets quite a bit of traffic, even though the juiciest part of the gossip has been removed. And like I said, if they really wanted it behind them, they would have taken down every post, removed the whole thing.

I have a question....I keep reading here (mostly) about the "other" J&K blogs/websites/whatever. Is anything reputable? What other sites are there - would you just google?? I've never really spent any time on any other boards/blogs about this since I have no clue what's "right" out there...I guess I just trust my DIS friends more than complete strangers.

I would say nothing is reputable or credible. It's all speculation and opinion, really. Like the Dr. Phil show, people saw it, and formed an opinion of what they heard or watched .. that sort of thing. Blogs try to claim otherwise, on either side of the argument. Occasionally, there will be a local or someone who saw a speaking engagement .. but outside of Aunt Jodi's sister posting on a couple of blogs last year, I don't think there are any insiders posting on these sites. And if they are, they're doing a damn good job of hiding their identity.

I'd say by now there are literally hundreds of blogs, message board threads, and fan pages devoted to the Gosselins. I'd say the most prominent "hate" site is Gosselins Without Pity (GWOP) ... there's a message board at Cafe Mom that gets mentioned quite frequently, but I've never read it, myself. Gosselins Do Not Need Our Pity is allegedly a balanced site, but I don't find that to be the case. They spend a lot of time bashing what GWOP has to say, without offering positive comments of their own.

This thread is a pretty good, balanced source of information :) Much less crap than other sites.... you don't have to wade through post after post of the same information to get to the point. I like that.
