I have to enroll my girls in the Y so they can attend camp. I will be enrolling the entire family. Believe me, we will be using the membership. I plan on using the exercise facilities atleast everyother day. Those weight machines are calling me. I also want to have a body fat anaylsis done....

ANyone join the Y....do you enjoy it?

The Y is even more expensive than our gym but I think if you have kids it is worth every penny.

Good for you, enrolling your family. We used to have a family membership but with Travis gone away and all grown up we just go to the Michigan Athletic Club, known in these parts as the MAC. It's about the same as the Y except our health insurance will pay for my husband's membership there, that is very helpful to us :)

Sorry Glo --- but when I read your post about the 'YMCA' it just made me think of this LINK that was posted on the 'war' board earlier this week!:teeth:

Have fun with your girls at the Y! :D

I love that one.... WW...it made me smile :)

We don't have a "Y" anywhere near us! :( However, a brand new gym, with indoor pool was just opened last month here and I am thinking of joining that~ :)

Good for you and for your family, Glo!

tlgoblue (Tracy) belongs to the Y and she and her family workout there! :) She seems to REALLY enjoy it! I am sure she will pop into this thread later to chat with you about her experience.

Hope you treat those weight machines with some kindness! heh heh! Have fun! You are very smart to get your whole family involved. :) I TOLD my mom that next week WE are going to do yoga together and work up to 3 times a week. She said ok. :) Phew!

Full confessions- we've had the family membership two years- they take monthly from my account (it's only $49 here) and I did great the first year- but once I started homeschooling our children- it became so hard to manage all three in the pool by myself and well, we've just thought of every excuse in the book- but actually I'm headed there tomorrow a.m., dear husband said he'd feed the kids breakfast so I'm off and so excited- generally I do the sit bike for 25 minutes keeping RPM around 80 with hills and such- then I do 8 arm machines and 6 leg machines- then I stretch and go home. I love to swim and hope to be able to get back to that as well. Once I get down to about 180 I hope to add some classes- it's just too hard on my knees and back. Keep it up and keep us informed of your workout schedule- it's so encouraging to start with someone else even if you're states away!!

Hi Glo!

We love it at the Y! The kids have a ball. I love the fitness room, pool and SAUNA! Our Y is set up so a parent need only be present in the building for kids under 8. So they swim, I do my workout, sauna whirpool, whatever. We also swim together, of course. Right now, the kids aren't old enough to use the machines, but DS could take a course that would allow him to do so. DD must wait a year. It is a great value if you have kids. The programming is top notch and I feel safe with my family there. Our community is small, so it is easy to get to know others, and we've even bumped into a few people we knew, but didn't know they were members. It's good fun and I have noticed a significant improvement in my health since I've been going. (2 Weeks) I'm even toying with the Idea of getting off my BP meds. Probably should wait to see of the committment holds.

Do it! And when you don't get there, don't beat yourself up. Resolve to go the next Day. (I haven't been in 2 days. TOM is a KILLER for me!) I'm going to make a point to get there today, if things are back in order. MIND BODY SPIRIT Take good care of them, and they'll take care of you!

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

Glo-

I have been a member of some sort of fitness facility for most of my entire adult life, but I have NEVER consistently used any of them until I joined the Y about 2 years ago. I spent a year doing the nautilus on my own and then moved to free weights. I hired a trainer to teach me proper technique and how to motivate myself and mix it up to keep from getting bored. Last week I joined their water aerobics class and I love it. I cannot say enough good things about the Y. It's for real people, and real families, and while I'm single I much prefer the family atmosphere. It's not like some other places where it's all belly buttons, and more like a singles club.

Check with your health plan, there may be a discount on the Y or you may get cash back for joining a fitness club.

Have fun!!!!

The Y sounds great Glo. My SIL is a youth aerobics/nautilis teacher at the Y and she said she has parents coming in with their children to learn too. She loves it there.
Have Fun!
