Joining a boarding group question

To answer the question on being in the park to join a boarding group, yes your whole party must be in the park and tapped in to get into a boarding group. Just being through bag check or even in parking lot will not work. And if your whole group linked to your mde is not going with you be prepared to see a cm for assistance. I went by myself without the rest of the family. Even though I was #5 through the tapstyle. I could not get a boarding group until #15 because everyone else didn’t come with me, and had to see a cm
Makes sense. I'm still skeptical that Disney has any ability to track people's MBs except when they are actually used to tap on something, like entering a park or buying something. Perhaps people were able to join the boarding group from outside the park due to a software glitch or something, but I don't think it was because Disney knew that the relevant MBs were nearby.

There are RFID “readers” on attractions and in queues...that’s how ride photos automatically link to MDX accounts. They can easily have readers at entrances to help with park security.

Someone posted earlier a CM told them that groups would only be assigned after tapping in and that the proximity checkin was a bug that had been fixed. We were in bag check for awhile and then waited a bit as finger sensor didn’t read someone in my party. Those delays didn’t trigger it. While I’m skeptical to believe Disney changed something on the fly so quick, anecdotally didn’t work for us today. My only guess could be that for testing purposes, a setting might not have been reset.

Interesting- I stand corrected. That shows how careful I am reading the terms and conditions before clicking “I accept”!

From what I have heard -everyone has to be in the park. But you can get them for your group - like FP.

Ok, so I'm new to this whole boarding group thing and haven't been to HS since Star Wars opened. We are going in mid-late January and would like to try to ride if we can. How do we attempt to join a boarding group? And if we get in a group, how do we know approximately when it will be our turn? I'm sorry if this was explained before... TIA

If you open your MDE app there should be a ROTR access by boarding group on the front page, click that to bring you to the boarding group page. There will be an option that says "join boarding group", you'll want to make sure your push notifications are on so that you get the notification

I dont agree with any of this, total BS the way Disney set this up. It was originally designed to have boarding groups to even enter the land and then once u entered, u had a 4hr window to experience everything in the land and then u had to leave and the next group entered. This was the whole point of the early reservations for Oga's, Droid and the light Sabres. Now they want to change it and leave the land itself open but only make ROTR boarding groups. So, for people like me that bought into their original plan, now have rsvps for Oga's and Droid at 8pm at night are now forced to show up at HS at 6am or rope drop or whatever the time is just to enter the park to try and get a boarding group for ROR and then forced to stay there all freakn day and night. If I would've known that ROR was going to require it's own boarding group and that u had to actually enter the park to even join a group, I would've never booked the other attractions for 8pm. I literally have to choose from either being at the park from 6am to 10pm or cancel my Oga's and Droid rsvp and hope I can get a ROR boarding group or decide to just skip ROR and keep my reservations with Oga and droid. Remember now, Oga's and Droid are paid reservations so they have to be canceled 24hr prior to not be charged so I dont have the luxury of waiting til the day of to see if I get a boarding group to ROR or not. I'm am beyond frustrated rite now.

you can leave the park once you get a boarding group. You don't have to stay in the park the whole time.

If anything VQ allows more freedom. You're not taking up to 3 hours standing in line, which if there wasn't a VQ the line would be 4+ hrs most likely, especially with all the breakdowns

So your entire group really has to be there to get a BG even if not everyone wants to be there at the same time? That just seems so weird and dumb...

The boarding group replaces waiting in a physical line rather than acting like a pre-booked FP+. It makes sense everyone wanting to ride needs to physically enter DHS before queuing up physically or virtually.

what? It makes perfect sense. Wouldn't be fair to just send one person to the park to get a spot for everyone.
