Joining a boarding group question

So I am traveling for one day at disney before cruise and wondering whether we should attempt HS or not.

My son is on the spectrum and we utilize the DAS pass.

We are staying at Boardwalk.

is it possible for me to run over to HS early in the AM to grab a boarding group for both of us and then return later in the morning to use it for both of us? Or does everyone in your party have to be present to get into a boarding group? We have Villains after Hours planned that night so if I could run into the park, grab a boarding group and then we head back for a late start it would work. Dragging the kiddo at dark-o-thirty might not work so well and we might have to skip it this time and save it for next time.

The plan was to do AK first, then Epcot then over to MK to end with VAH but staying at BW we could do HS instead of AK, then skyliner to Epcot for a couple of rides before monorail to MK for the evening. We have 1 day hoppers + VAH tickets. We could handle a 9am start to midnight with long breaks for meals but there is no way the kiddo could handle a 4-6am start that people are reporting now. But I could run over myself and run back to the hotel, then go back to bed for a while before getting the real start for the day. Long day for me but that's what moms do ;)

Thanks for any help.

Everyone who wants to join a Boarding Group needs to have tapped their admission into DHS.

I have not read a lot of DAS feedback yet so maybe others have some ideas/experience as to any other options you may have.

From what I understand, as a mother of a DAS pass user, all parties need to be tapped into the park as GADisneyDad stated. From there, you're assigned your boarding pass group on the app. When your group is called, then the DAS holders will be moved through the line using another entrance (? - eventual FP line?) but the boarding group portion of the experience is the same for everyone. I think this is as fair a system as they could have come up with. But, yes, you and your son will have to enter the park to be assigned a boarding pass.

We won't be going until September. I don't mind this system I just hope we won't need to be at the park super early to get a BG. My son, also on the spectrum, has an issue just waiting around which is why we are never the first people to get to a park. That amps up his anxiety. I'm sure all the kinks will be worked out by the time we get there. Having a kid on the spectrum just means even more planning for a trip that already requires a ton of planning.

The procedure with DAS:
everyone needs to be there early at DHS to enter the park and join a BG
get your DAS card at GR and go to the attraction once your BG is called
you are put through the fp queue
That's how it was explained to me when I asked day 1. I was also told they were not taking DAS cards at the moment but one person on the SWGE sub forum said they used it this way

Apologies if this is clear to everyone but myself, but I'm hoping someone can clarify for me. TIA
I need a late BG and am trying to plan how to get one.
When you tap to join a boarding group, does it tell you prior to getting the BG which BG you will be in? If so, does it give an option to back out and try again in a few minutes. I know exact timing is unknown but I want to try for a late BG.
Has anyone cancelled a BG? If so, was it while BGs were still available and were you able to reschedule one; and, if so, how?

Yes; posters have reported canceling while BGs were still available to join.

You’ll only know your BG # after you’ve completely joined. There’s no guarantee you’ll receive another BG when canceling a BG.

You don't get to see which BG you are in, it just assigns you the next number in the queue. And the number of your BG doesn't tell you anything about WHEN that BG is going to get called up. You cannot reschedule a BG if you miss it or want a later time, you'd have to fully cancel your BG and then log back in and try and get a new BG, IF any are left.

Thanks for the replies. I know it's not likely to work out to match up a boarding group between other FPs and ADRs, but I'll try - and then go with the flow anyway. We've got to get on this ride! The kids (college age) say they'll get up at 2 a.m. if that's what gets them on this ride :scared: but I am not getting up at that hour -at least, not until we've tried at a more reasonable hour a time or two anyway...

I am going in April and feel completely confused. I have read that all the members need to be at park but the boarding passes don’t open until actual park does? Is there a boarding group still for smugglers run or is that just stand by now? If EMH are not honored for this ride, it literally is who is quicker to click a button to join a group when you enter?

Only RotR is utilizing boarding groups at this time. The land itself only utilized it briefly on opening day and never since. MFSR has never used the virtual queue and is standby only right now (no FP+ distribution).

You are 100% correct, it is now a free for all for boarding groups. Guests are let in prior to park open time and either held on Hollywood Boulevard (for a few previous days) or let on other attractions (this morning), but the virtual queue does not open until DHS is scheduled to open as per a Disney Parks Blog post a few days ago. I would look at this thread for more information as it unfolds: https://www.disboards.com/threads/r...rding-group-planning-and-information.3782822/

I am sure there will be a lot of changes between now and April, especially because Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway will also be new and open.
