Joining a boarding group question

So basically Disney is assuming all the family members are together and I don't need to make sure everyone has some sort of tracking device lol

Nope - someone reported earlier that they arrived to RD early and logged in to get a boarding pass, but couldn't add anyone to their party that wasn't physically there. So Disney IS able to verify if the people you are trying to add to your boarding party are physically onsite or not - whether that's detecting the MB's or tapping into the park I can't say for sure...but they're doing it.

If people were signing up outside the park in the bag check line, they haven't scanned the magic band or ticket yet. This is confusing and doesn't completely add up yet.

Your MDE proves your location if you are logged into it. Nothing confusing about it.

I think you are misunderstanding the question. If a family member does not have a magic band and has not checked into the park yet, Disney has no idea where they are. Therefore does that mean that person can not join a boarding group until they get into the actual park?

Their confusion is that not everyone would have a phone/app (see: kids). If you can do it at bag check and not after tapping in, how do they recognize those guests. I suppose a beacon could tell if a MB was nearby, but it can't do the same for hard tickets.

Based on what was posted earlier, yes that would mean that person can't join the boarding party until they actually tap into the park.

Yup, so then it would make sense that hard ticket holders couldn't join a boarding party until they tap in. That does seem to be what is happening.

It really boils down to this:
Disney will track your entry/proximity to the park and allow you to join a boarding party when it can detect you are close/in the parks. It appears they are requiring all party members to be trackable in order for them to be in a boarding party.

HOW that tracking happens is dependent on whether you are using MDE, have a MB, or use a hard ticket. If MDE or MB, they seem to be able to track you in PROXIMITY to the park. If hard ticket, they can't track you until you actually ENTER or tap in.

Can you check the current boarding group while in another park so that you can try to time it to go towards the evening time if you want? I know you can't join the boarding group just want to see the current times

Yeah, it sounds like the most efficient method is to make sure everyone has a MDE account or at the very least a MB.

Can Disney really track the location of MBs in real time other than by knowing whether or not they have been used to enter a park? I've been using them since day 1 and was unaware that this was the case. But if so, certainly having one person being the designated early-riser bringing everyone's MBs to DHS bag-check, grabbing a boarding time for the whole group, and then having the rest of the group meeting him or her there later would seem to be the most efficient approach.
I would really appreciate if discussion of ways to "cheat the system" wouldn't continue
It does seem like an efficient way but would be completely unfair for the people that wake up early, kids and all, and go over to the park.
I don't want this becoming a name calling, post but if you are coming and getting on a VQ, then the entire group should do so

Yup - AFAIK Disney doesn't allow a single person to "hold" a place in a ride line for a group (I know it happens but I've also seen CM enforce it with guests, and that's really the right thing to do). No reason they wouldn't extend that to virtual queuing.

Sorry, in the old days I spent years as the designated "Fastpass runner", zipping around the park with everyone's park tickets, grabbing piles of paper FPs for rides, and I was thinking along the same kind of lines here. But I do take your point.

Someone today checked into the ride then signed up for a new boarding group so probably?

So for now get there early, be one of the first and once you checked in join a new boarding group for later.
Any Single Rider line?

btw, I am really happy I waited a week to go. Let them work out the issues.

I totally missed the info that you had to get a boarding group. My daughter and I got to the park at 4:49 am and had no clue until they allowed us through to the holding area and I saw a bunch of people on their phones. At that point, I looked at my app and saw the thing about joining a boarding group. By the time I checked in, we were Boarding Group 24. I guess it could have been worse, but everyone around us got 14-15.

We we’re still done and left the park by 10, and the ride was awesome 👏🏻

I have friends that were there at 4am today. They were in group 14 (part of the breakdown groups), they were able to get a second boarding group after taping in for the first and they got the fastpass re admit for the breakdown.

Can you share from the time you got into the line how long the process took? I am hoping the VQ makes it to not be a 2 hour wait.

I'm interested in seeing how late you can get there and still get a boarding group. Gonna be hard to get my wife up early enough if they are out by the time the park opens.
