Has anyone joined AAA just for the campsite or room discounts? We like to stay for an extended time and make multiple visits. We used to do the AP discounts, but now that it has changed...I'm not sure. What does a AAA membership cost?
Thanks.

Here's a good link for typical AAA discounts -

http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#AAA

I think the basic AAA membership is still under $30/yr. (though I'm not sure on that). We have the "Plus" which is closer to $50/yr., but we use it for far more than hotel discounts so that's why we opt for it.

We find AAA to be worth it for us as well, beyond the Disney discounts. I get a discount at my drycleaners and some other local businesses, plus it's good if you need a tow or a spare tire put on.

I joined AAA just for the discount at FW. The membership cost was $40-50 (can't remember exactly) and we got a 15% discount off a regular campsite in May 2006 (regular rate is $66) so we got a $9/night discount for 8 nights so the membership has already paid for itself.

Actually, I didn't have the membership when I called and asked for the AAA rate. I joined after I made the ressie and have to show my card when I check in. I think the discount is only 10% in peak or holiday times and it sounds like the number of AAA sites are limited so book as early as possible.

I'll have to look into what else AAA can get me in the way of discounts down there. I have read here that boat rentals at the Disney marinas are elible for a AAA discount and we plan to rent a pontoon boat for a while. I doubt it can get any discount for tickets so we are set.

Hope this helps! :cool1:

The AAA discount is not always available, so check before buying membership if that is the only reason you are joining. For instance, it is not available in January and February this year.

I joined AAA last summer thinking I would basically just use it for the WDW discounts. I was able to book the Polynesian with the discount for this September, so that right there was worth the price of membership. But then it more than paid for itself again this weekend when my car broke down and I needed a tow. I can't tell you how happy I was to have that membership that I bought "just for Disney discounts" when I was stranded on the side of the road!

It depends. AAA membership charges vary by location---in the Wash, DC metro ares my AAA basic is $74.00 for my self, DW added to membershipm makes it $104. During the last four years at FW we have been able to get AAA rates on only one trip.

So IMHO AAA is for auto use---with the side benefit that I may get some discounts.
