Has anyone here tried the Joes Crab shack a few blocks down from DLR? DH and I are planning to try it on our trip and we're just wondering how it is....we've never eaten at one before. Thanks!

I didn't know there was a Joe's Crab Shack near DLR. Awesome. I was just in Texas at the end of June and we went to the one at the Kemah boardwalk. Tasty, tasty.

I've not been to the one by the park either but the onr by my office here in Phoenix is really good.

We have Joe's Crab Shack in my area, they are a chain restaurant. The food is decent but in my area, we avoid the place on the weekend. The servers encourage the children to do conga lines and dance in the aisles of the restaurant, which is just awful and loud when the restaurant is crowded. :scared1: The outdoor seating has a playground attached to it, so if you sit outside during a busy period, expect to have dirty kids running up to your table. I don't know what kind of dining experience you are hoping for, so take that with a grain of salt. If we go, we try to go for lunch or sit at the bar at dinnertime. And we do love the seasonal specials they have!

We went to the one by DLR a couple years ago. I believe it's in Garden Grove, but still down the street from the resort on Harbor Blvd. It was really good and probably the best Joe's we've been too (certainly better than the one in my town). It's really a fun place!

Absolutely LOVE IT. One of my favorite places.

IMHO...it's a glorified Skippers and way overpriced.

Yikes! I'm assuming you don't like kids very much huh??
Well kids don't bother me.....I work with them!:rotfl2:

I'm really excited to try this place! Thanks for the reviews so far- we have one near us but it's about 45 mins away and DH and I see no reason to drive that far for a dinner.:confused3 I'm glad we get to try one without having to go so far out of the way.

I have been to Joe's in different cities and I love it every time I go. The last time we went to DL, we had dinner at Joe's. It was Mother's Day and they made all the moms at our table feel really special.

I disagree with the person that said it is a glorified Skippers. You can't compare fast food to an entertainment-type restaurant. That being said, you pay for the entertainment as well as the food. We love Joe's Crab Shack and will be going there again on our next trip to DL.

OT-We share the same anniversary, although different years. We were married in 1995.

My wife and I were in Disneyland and stayed at the Crown Plaza in Feb 2009. Joes is in the "parking lot" of the Crown Plaza right next to Outback Steakhouse.

We were exausted one night after being in the park all day and went to Joes Crab Shack. The food was pretty darn good. I got some shrimp plate that had 30 shrimp (3 different kinds with 3 or 4 different sauces). I am from Washington so I really like my seafood and this is a lot like Red Lobster. Not Anthony's Homeport but in my opinion MUCH better then skippers.

BTW - anyone have photos from inside the one near DLR? I loved the set up for the one we went to in Teas, it was awesome.

We ate there a couple of years ago and it was great. We did have to wait for a table though, as it was busy, but not long. It is very noisy in there so if someone has hearing aids I wouldn't think they would like it, but the food was good and there is alot of stuff on the walls to look at while you are there. We plan on going again in November.

We have eaten at the one in Garden Grove (the one down the street from DL), and it was quite tastey. There isn't a playground there, so you don't have to worry about the dirty children part (unless you bring your own!). We would go more often when we go there, but I have an allergy to shell fish, and the temptation is too great!

Wow, seriously? There is no play area around the Joe's in Garden Grove, there is outside seating but no play areas. So, no "dirty kids" running up to your table. LOL

HUH??? Joe's in NOTHING like Skipper's. Skipper's is like Long John Silvers, NOT Joe's Crab Shack.

Joe's is good!!!! We will actually leave the parks to go eat at Joe's, it's really really good!!! The steampots are amazing...and the crab nachos....YUM!!!! DBF and I have started getting a steampot and those nachos and sharing. Honestly, the nachos are big enough to feed us both. LOL Yes, it can be loud and when I was there for my bday they had me ride around the restaurant with a cowboy hat and a wooden pony while the whole place sang Happy Birthday to me....LOL That was fun....LOL Oh and yes, they do dance, my girls like that part, they always get up and dance with our servers.

Sorry but I have to discagree with most of you. Living in Texas, Landry's owns most of the restaurant chains here- Rainforest, Saltgrass, Joe's, Landry's, Cadalac Bar, Willie G's.....

Joe's is the lowest teir on the Landry's food chain. All of our Joe's have a playscape with sand. They do not have chairs as you sit at a picnic style table. It is loud as the waiters are always yelling or singing or doing the chicken or macarena. The seafood is always overcooked IMHO> I know noone in my neighborhood who goes there. It is always filled with tourists, Oh! That's who's mostly at DL!! Sorry!! I live in San Antonio so we try to avoid the tourists!! I think that's why we love being tourists in other people's towns! For what it's worth, we will never eat at another Joe's as we have not very good fresh seafood there on any of our 5-6 visits. We give it a try about once every other year or so hoping it has gotten better. We have never had an experience that makes us want to come back more often

Thanks for your info ballerinamom, the Joe's in Garden Grove has NO sand play area and no picnic tables. Well, actually they might have picnic tables outside but we always eat inside. I've never had bad seafood eating there either, I don't know but it's good. I didn't realize Joe's was a Landry's, I know RFC is but Joe's is too?

Actually, they do have a playground, but it has little pebbles instead of sand.

We like Joe's a lot, and just visited this location about a month ago. Good food, although we don't tend to stray from the king crab and dungeness legs with the bbq spices.

Yep! Landry's will eventually own every place that serves food! :rotfl2:
We have the full gamet- 24 total Landry's establishments here in SAn Antonio. They are takiing over the Riverwalk!! We have a little animosity towards Tilman Fertitta and his restaurants. So maybe I'm a little biased about Joe's :rolleyes1

Yes they do have a play area but we never saw dirty kids running around in fact we never saw any kids playing there at all. The place is dark inside but that is the decor they are going for and they do seat people at picnic tables in the middle of the room but they have booths around the outside. The do a lot of dancing and singing but that is what makes it fun. If your looking for quietness and romance I would probably pass but I think it is a good place to eat and I personally would go there on a date. Give it a try, especially if you like seafood and not so run of the mill.
