Day 4, Oct. 28
Since AK wasn't opening until 9, we didn't get in a big hurry. Around 8:45, we started moving in the direction of the bus area, It took a while to come and by the time it stopped at other resorts, it took almost 45 minutes to get to AK. We hadn't bothered to eat, so H got a fruit cup at a kiosk and I got a cookie.
First, we went back to KS, where the wait wasn't too bad. H and I do have a knack for getting in jeeps with obnoxious families on this ride. H- manages to remain stoic (perhaps a skill she's perfected for her work), but it takes all of my willpower (and H's elbow in my ribs) to keep from snickering. It's not even the people anymore, it's just the fact that we could do this attraction 10 different times during one trip and we'd be sitting with goofballs at least 9 out of the 10.
I don't think of us as goofball magnets in general, but this was our day. As we walked through the Pangani Trail, we were plagued by a group of 3 men and a woman who kept doing all sorts of stupid-looking things in an effort to get the animals' attention for photos.
At Primieval Whirl, there was a lone woman in the car behind us. She kept posing in like some sort of crazed runway model. I guess a friend or relative on the ground must've been filming or taking pictures. I don't spend all my time wondering what everyone else thinks about what I'm doing. However, I do strive not to make a fool of myself in public. Not that I'm always successful.
We moved on to Dinosaur and managed to avoid the goofballs on that one. The ride stopped working about the time we got to the unloading area. The CMs just kind of disappeared, so people just started climbing out and walking back across through the cars to the other side to leave. The people behind us were pretty much stuck until it was fixed, though. Hope they didn't have to sit back there too long.
We waited a while for It's Tough to be a Bug, but it was nice out, so we didn't mind. I have to say that I really don't enjoy AK when it's very hot. They ought to consider some ideas to improve air circulation in that park. The only goofball we saw at the Tree of Life was Goofy milling around for photo ops.
At that point, we had more or less done everything we wanted to do. Seeing Legend of the Lion King would've been nice, but we didn't feel like waiting around any longer. We were thinking that staying at AKL sometime might be fun, so we went over there next to check it out.
AKL definitely lives up to all of the praise it gets. It's impressive. As much as H and I like the Epcot resort area, our next trip might be there. It was well past 1 by then. Both of us want to try Boma some time, but we ate at Mara. She got a chicken sandwich, I got a burger. Both were good. Having skipped the morning coffee, Diet Coke was our close friend at lunch.
Speaking of Diet Coke, I know a few people who get really annoyed when they see someone drinking Caffeine Free Diet Coke. "Why don't they just drink water?" A friend of my step-daughter's will not date a girl if she drinks Diet Coke. Strange. Sorry for the non-WDW-related tangent.
When we finally made it back to BWI, we went down to the pool for a while. Neither of us felt like doing anything else, so we stayed in and watched some of the good Thursday night shows. I like both ER and Without a Trace, but ER being a repeat made that one an easy choice.
One slight correction--*I* watched some of the good Thursday night shows. H was asleep by 8. The differences in people are interesting. I can forget about work and everything else while on vacation, for the most part. H cannot. My response to stressful situations is not to sleep, while hers is to sleep more than usual.
While this isn't what we've done on most evenings at WDW in the past, I guess it's what we both needed. God willing, we'll be back and all of it will still be here. Unfortunately, I can't seem to totally get out of the not sleeping pattern here, so I may not be too energetic in the morning.
Again, we have no specific plans for tomorrow. I'd like to ride ToT and RnRC before we go, so MGM will probably factor in. We'll be homeless after we check out and our flights don't leave until the evening, so we may not venture out until 11 or so.
