Jodi Arias Trial Part 4, starting with redirect of "expert" Dr Samuels, March 19

Like an idiot, I walked out of the room when I wanted to listen to what they were saying on HLN because I forgot why I wanted to watch it. DOH! The trial is costing taxpayers 800k dollars!!! They talked about everybody's pay, walked in right as they were saying what Willie makes...anybody catch that?

I believe they said Nermie is $150/hr and Willie gets $90 or $95/hr but that they get more per hour while in court.

From what I understand she will be on HLN a few hours.
Oh, then that's not really losing her job, is it? And won't she be on Nancy Grace, etc? I thought HLN was canning her completely. InSession is pretty much kaput, so a petition won't keep her on there for much.
It was about 20 minutes ago, so umm 1:30 (central) or so.
OK, I rewound quite a bit, so I'll let you know if I catch the $$ issue. They cover so many other stories, I'll be FFing through quite a bit.

From BK's FB page....

"The Maricopa County Office of Management and Budget confirms that the costs paid, thus far, for Arias's defense is $838,358.24. This includes attorneys' fees, experts, travel, etc. #JodiArias"

Here it is, from HLN:

Today is the 35th day of court action in the Jodi Arias murder trial.

Costing taxpayers $838,000 SO FAR. ("the bill for the defense", per that Mike "not Brooks" guy on HLN, so not sure exactly what that means...paying the judge, and everyone else involved??)

Private attorneys, not public defenders. In Maricopa county, and others, private attorneys can contract with the county to be court-appointed attorneys. Which means they can maintain their private practice, but a lot of these attorneys rely on the contracts, and death penalty contracts, in this case.

Kirk Nurmi, for pre-trial proceedings, makes $125/hr; Jennifer Wilmott, $95. When you get into trial, that rate goes up. No precise figure but the lawyer on HLN (forgot his name) is looking into it.

Then there are the expert witnesses, also paid from that same Office of Public Defense Services. Experts typically work at a reduced rate for government contract work...basically it's a safety net for a lot of professionals to make sure they have steady income.

Dr Samuels, as we know, said he gets $250/per hour, and he said he met with Jodi around 30 hours so that comes to close to $10,000, and that doesn't include studying his notes, writing, doing his testing results, then his final report.

I'd love to know how much mom & her aunt have spent being in AZ, or traveling back & forth, all this time. They have to have run up some pretty hefty expenses as well. Wonder if mom is writing like crazy because she's going to write a book when this is all over?

Even at the lowest rate of pay, that is still a substantial amount for a paycheck. Did they break down the Mitigation person?

I'm ready! Just got back from errands, grabbed an apple & peanut butter and got the streaming fired up.

Just got back too.

We still don't know about tomorrow? I thought someone had posted in the last thread that there was no court tomorrow, but that coulda been 2 weeks ago. :rotfl:

ETA: Oh LOL, I've got expert witness advertisements on this page at the bottom.
