Jock straps on their faces halftime show lol

I thought the half-time show was good but fell flat at times. Truly I think they tried to do the best they could given the circumstances. And in our household we were commenting how well they blended the masks in with the facial bandages (having fully understood the meaning behind them which I think helped). You know people would have complained about seeing masks on TV wishing they wouldn't have made it so obvious they just want a bit of normalcy, IDK we felt they did a good job of balancing that out.

The hall of mirrors bit was pretty cool.

I thought he'd have done better having a guest star, just so some of the 1st half suck wouldn't have been there as filler and he could have really rocked like he did the last 2+ songs...
My in-laws commented about that wishing there was more than just one artist. I bet it was one of those things that just would have made it harder with COVID. You know getting someone out, making sure they weren't positive, then having their whole entourage, and just really all of it. I don't disagree having many performances in the past be at least 2 artists that it would have been nice to have that balance but I'm just guessing it was easier to keep it more easy for logistics reasons.

i did not like the halftime show this year, that scene was giving me a headache them running around that inside area and the masks and set up and dance was just strange and weird. Bring back Katy Perry & the sharks lol or Shakira/JLo!

I’m old and I loved it. I’m told that these artists are booked to try to lure viewers who normally wouldn’t watch. I guess older viewers are taken for granted. ;)

And he put in a lot of his own money to do the show . I think to help cover covid safety. My daughter is a big fan and he did the best he could with all the covid issues guidelines. If there was no restrictions it wouled have been an amazing show. For an artist to use some of own money says a lot because most just want $$$$. Hubby liked that there’s wasn’t any political bs

One thing we can agree on...no matter what they do, no matter what artist is chosen, or what happens, the SuperBowl Halftime Show will never be good enough, interesting enough yadda yadda yadda. It will never ever satisfy everyone. Or most people. Or even a lot of people.

They should just stop doing it.

I read and heard he used 7 million of his own money. Artists don’t get paid to do the halftime show either. He really tried to make it different by using the end zone.

Being Canadian, I am surprised if no one has heard “can’t feel my face” since is played so much here. 😂 For the longest time I didn’t know he was Canadian.

you gotta see Tom Cruise lip syncing to this...

Sorry respectfully you don't appear to know what you're talking about. You seem stuck on his nationality which to be honest is really strange like very strange. That's not it. He's well known in the States; he's had multiple Billboard hits. You need to take into consideration demographic and what types of music people like which is what this thread will show you. That's it. I can't escape his songs on the radio and I'm in the Midwest. They are played mostly on pop stations IME but sometimes R&B. Right now "Blinding Lights" is heavily played despite it having been released since late 2019

You know, you can just say you disagree without being rude and condescending. Adding the word respectfully, doesn't make the bolded above respectful. Just an FYI.

Anyways, Yes, the Weeknd has done well for himself. He’s had several hits and won awards. Plenty of people do know him, and as you say, his music is popular on the stations you listen to. But it is hard for Canadian artists to crack the US market. Has he done it? Of course, for the most part. I just think he’d be more well known if he was American.

Yeah advertisers don't generally target anyone over 50, and some have a cut-off much lower than that. Prescription meds ads would be the exception. When you hear the phrase "If you suffer from moderate to severe symptoms..." you can pretty much guess the demographic. ;)

@Jennasis from a wide appeal standpoint I agree that it doesn't make sense because you can't please everyone. But they won't end the half-time show because they make so much money selling sponsorships for it.

I wasn't being rude or condescending and I did mean it respectfully. You were the one who kept repeating it was because they were Canadian acting like that meant people in the U.S. were going to be unaware on the basis of that; it really did seem like you didn't quite understand things like perhaps you were unaware of his status outside of Canada and I could hypothesize that's because you're Canadian not up and up on how things translate in the States except there is a fellow Canadian who is saying the same thing that it's not because of his nationality. For everyone else it's like not their age group not their musical choice. He's well known to people all over the world, he's well known to people in America. The reason some people don't know who he is isn't because he's Canadian. I doubt many people even realize he is Canadian which isn't a knock at all. I didn't know it until 2019 myself despite having heard many of his songs.

I agree with what I've underlined for sure, no disagreements there :)

There is a really goofy Anime where the characters wear underwear on their faces, looked just like the dancers. I';lladd it's not family friendly at all. Odd, but good dancers.

ETA: I felt old watching it my college age daughter was bee bopping along and I didn't recognize the music. But heck, I'm 50 now and my AARP card has arrived!! I'm not the target demographic.

Our family’s thoughts on the halftime show:
-Even though I’m in my early 40’s I know who he is and find some of his songs catchy. His performance of the songs were good.
-I thought the white head coverings were underwear at first.
-When the performance first started I thought he had a bunch of AI figured behind him with the red eyes. That would have been awesome! I was disappointed to find out they were real people.
-When he was in the funhouse it made my husband motion sick.
-I was disappointed they didn’t do the TikTok dance
-No performer is going to appeal to every demographic watching, and they have to change it up every year. This year’s performance wasn’t aimed at me or my young kids, but it wasn’t bad. Just not super engaging for me.

I was really unnerved with the background robots until I saw they were actual people. Not sure why, but it gave me the heebie jeebies.

I know who The Weeknd is, I like his music, and I knew what the bandages were about but the performance nearly bored me to tears. I did enjoy mentally tallying all the Covid precautions throughout the show — masks, social distancing, operating his own camera in the fun house — but mostly I was hoping for a 50 year old woman to appear on a pole to liven things up.

The game was over at the half imo. lol
Well not really with KC as the opposing team. They are very creative and talented. Brady and Co. were flat out amazing last night. They made very few mistakes and were hungry....
