Jock straps on their faces halftime show lol

I thought it was great & pretty epic. Loved the songs and the choreography. I mean, not every half time show has to just be "Strippers R Us" , do they? :rotfl2:

No, just Prince in the pouring rain.. !!! Ahhh........

Our family’s thoughts on the halftime show:
-Even though I’m in my early 40’s I know who he is and find some of his songs catchy. His performance of the songs were good.
-I thought the white head coverings were underwear at first.
-When the performance first started I thought he had a bunch of AI figured behind him with the red eyes. That would have been awesome! I was disappointed to find out they were real people.
-When he was in the funhouse it made my husband motion sick.
-I was disappointed they didn’t do the TikTok dance
-No performer is going to appeal to every demographic watching, and they have to change it up every year. This year’s performance wasn’t aimed at me or my young kids, but it wasn’t bad. Just not super engaging for me.

I'm sure he's very talented, but I only watched the first 5 minutes or so. Bad sound, and didn't get anything out of it.

Everyone in my family immediately recognized the "masks" as plastic surgery bandages. I also thought having the masked performers appear right when he was singing "I can't feel my face" made that connection even more clear for anyone who wasn't familiar with what the bandages look like.

I thought it was a clever way to incorporate masks into the performance. Never entered my mind that others would think they were jock straps or underwear.
This.

I also thought thought the message was clear that they were plastic surgery bandages.

With the pandemic, I think the message may have been lost. I knew it wasn’t underwear once they zoomed in, but I thought it was just a stylized mask.

I only knew the song because of Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battle with Tom Cruise, lol. Definitely catchy

OMG!! Thanks! Never saw this clip of Fallon/Cruise

Must say Lt. Maverick can still have his hotness about him when he’s not acting all couch jumping/ auditing crazy.

Also I thought The Weeknd's performance was great. Other than the wonky audio at the beginning I loved it, the set design, everything. I am a big fan. I am shocked there are people who have never heard of him. His music gets played on just about every kind of station except country and classical.

He’s been nominated and/or won several Grammys over the last 5 or so years, but he’s Canadian, so I’m not surprised many of you don’t know him.
Nah it's not the Canadian aspect whatsoever.

I've been listening to his "Blinding Lights" song that has gotten a lot of air play recently since December 2019; "Heartless" song is growing on me. His "Earned It" song was heavily featured for Fifty Shades and when that movie came out no one could escape that song on the radio even if you never saw or heard of the movie; that was end of 2014/beginning of 2015. His "Can't Feel My Face" has been out since summer of 2015 though that's more so so for me. His "The Hills" song came out late spring 2015 heard that a ton. His "Pray for Me" song from early 2018 was on the Black Panther album and was heavily featured on the radio.

He's been around the U.S. for almost 10 years at this point it's just in the last several years has he gotten tons of attention. I like some of his songs and don't really care for others but I've def. heard of him. But that's because it's right up my alley of music likes.

If people don't know him it's more because it's not their genre of music which is totally fine but that's the reason not because his nationality :)

I agree I am reaching 50 here soon and I totally knew who he was years ago. I was surprised this morning on my Facebook feed how so many of my high school friends have no idea who he was. I mean he is kind of a big deal

I could have written half of this - last night, I said the performance was uneven - the 1st half sucked and the 2nd half was brilliant. Some of the suck of the 1st half was his fault (the motion sickness song - after that, the performance was a home run), some wasn't (the awful sound quality of the 1st song plus). I gave it a B- overall - I thought he'd have done better having a guest star, just so some of the 1st half suck wouldn't have been there as filler and he could have really rocked like he did the last 2+ songs...

Oh, he’s plenty famous to me. I’ve already mentioned that he’s a big deal around here and I think he’s very talented. :confused3

But the truth is, it seems he’s just not as well known in The States. Plenty of Canadian artists who are considered famous and have big hits just aren’t as well known in the States. It’s just the way it is.
Sorry respectfully you don't appear to know what you're talking about. You seem stuck on his nationality which to be honest is really strange like very strange. That's not it. He's well known in the States; he's had multiple Billboard hits. You need to take into consideration demographic and what types of music people like which is what this thread will show you. That's it. I can't escape his songs on the radio and I'm in the Midwest. They are played mostly on pop stations IME but sometimes R&B. Right now "Blinding Lights" is heavily played despite it having been released since late 2019

The best part of his performance that really made me happy and put a smile on my face was the beginning of Blinding Light. The intro to that song and when he and his fellow dancers on the football field just broke out into a full 80s dance for a few seconds aI wish I could’ve been down there dancing with them.

At 11:27-11:40.
