The meaning was to cover their face in a pandemic. I can’t imagine how hard it is to put together a half time show like no other in history trying to make it entertaining while following a long list of precautions.
I thought it was great & pretty epic. Loved the songs and the choreography. I mean, not every half time show has to just be "Strippers R Us" , do they?
I thought the Weeknd put on a good show. I really like his music but do agree that I didn't understand the point of the mass dancers and their headgear. Was he trying to pull an Eminem and 100 Slim Shadys?
I'm not the biggest fan of The Weeknd - and I HATE how he spells his name - but I thought the show was fine. I did really like the sets and thought the masks were cool. It was fine, though there was no big guest artist like they usually do.

That is his professional name. Per Wikipedia it is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye. I don’t know much about him, but heard he put several millions of his own money into the show.
