Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman

I just watched it. One of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. Is that really the real him, or is it an act?

I kept alternating between thinking it was hilarious or just mean. If he's just being 'artsy' then its hilarious, but if the guy stopped taking his meds it's sad. Regardless, that was 10 L O N G minutes. It was good to see Letterman hasn't lost 'it' and can still do Late Nite Dave when he wants to.

At the end Joaquin seems to 'get' the jokes, and seems ok with them, which makes me think he's just being artsy otherwise I wouldn't have posted it.

I've thought about it a bit, and I don't think he was being artsy, or that it was an act - I think he's messed up.

I'm guessing that he was obligated by his contract to do some publicity for the film.

:happytv: He's an odd one for sure. Such a hotty without his extra facial hair. lol

From what I've heard, it's a publicity stunt, for some mockumentary Casey Affleck and him are doing. Supposedly, after the show, he turned to Letterman, took off his wig, and went back to acting as he usually would. I think Letterman was in on it.

There's a few times you can see him laugh, or crack a smile, breaking the acting.

Looks like a debate, to me. ;)

That certainly isn't the first time Joaquin has acted bizarrely. I've always thought he was a few fries short of a happy meal.

I don't it was a joke. I think there is something wrong with him. Such a shame he was so talented

I thought it was funny. At the very end he faces Dave and takes off his glasses. If he was messed up why would he do that. I'm sure it was an act. Pretty funny! You can see him trying not to laugh a couple times too.

I don't think the movie company would want him to act like that during a promtion of that movie.

I just watched it again, LOL the whole time..I got taken in the first time, totally believed it. Now watching it again, it's obvious it's a put on. But still, so funny, Dave still has it.

"Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't make it tonight." :lmao:

He looked like he was playing Letterman. You could see him smiling through the hair a few times. I liked it when Letterman asked him to tell him about his time spent with the Unabomber. :rotfl:

See - I think Joaquin laughed at that line. He held it together pretty well up until then.

I sure hope it's an act.

I think it was an act too. It worked, it's being played on several talk shows, so if it was done to generate attention - then job well done.

I've always thought he was an exceptional actor, and I think he will eventually go back to acting.

Totally an act. Casey Affleck has been following him around because he is doing a "Documentary" about Joaquin being this rapper. If Borat can do it, why can't Joaquin.

I have met him and yes he is a little off but he was very normal and very sweet. He actually said to me, which was weird, "why do you want my autograph?" I said to him that I have been a huge fan and enjoy watching his movies. He hugged me and thanked me and was kind of shocked.

So he is just acting right now and trying to see how far he can take it.

What upsets me is that people judge him so quickly they think he is on drugs and whatnot because of his brother. I don't think he would ever want to touch the stuff after watching his brother die. JMO.

They were talking about it on ABC Eyewitness news tonite and also mentioned that it was supposed to be an act.

I really, really hope so. I don't want to see anyone messed up, drugged up, drinking, etc. He has great talent and he is a very good looking man without all that hair. I want to see him in more movies.
