For a literature project, my son chose to write a letter to an author. Since he has read all five books, he chose to write to JK Rowling.

This was back in November. It was a well thought out letter, with all types of questions, and such. He wrote in there if you have time, please write back.

Well today, an air mail envelope from Scotland addressed to my son comes. It was a letter from her! It is a typed letter with his name, and it looks like a true signature (not a rubber stamp).

There also was enclosed a fact sheet with some other info on it.

It was pretty cool!

Wow. I'm impressed. With her fame and wealth, I'm sure she gets dozens of requests.

Pretty neat that your son got something personal from Ms. Rowling.

CindyB, I work in the literary world...........please be aware that authors (especially popular ones) can receive several hundred letters per day. They DO NOT answer them personally. The author employs a person(s) to answer them (standard format) and then sign them.

If they answered all the letters they received, they would not have the time to write the books they are famous for!

BUT, consider yourself lucky anyway.................lots of authors don't have their fan mail answered at all. :(

Yes, I do realize that it was written from a publicist, or an assistant. I found it nice that it was actually done, and sent out to him. It did answer a few questions he did have, so someone did actually read his letter. As for who, it doesn't matter... just the act of it happening was very nice.

If it was signed by publicist or assistant, it doesn't matter really. For a 9 year old, it was gold. He never gets mail, so he was so excited today to get this. Its going to school tomorrow, and it was the first thing my son showed my husband.

If you kept a copy and feel like posting it, I'd love to read what he wrote to her. I'd be interested in seeing the reply as well.

CindyB, I'm sorry I sounded harsh.........I KNOW how excited the kids get when they get an answer from someone that they admire!

I'd also like to state that folks are also trained to let us know when there is a "special needs" letter and that DOES get personally answered by the author!

The authors know that without the kids................there is no sucessful author!

It's fun watching the reaction of your kid when something has made his day, isn't it:hyper:

That is really exciting! I know so many people don't answer
anything now adays...so it is nice that she even has her "people" respond!
