I saw him interviewed, he is man that fascinates me. He has done so much- he is an author, he even wrote a novel, and he has a new book about the morality of the country. He is a painter, a furniture maker, humanitarian, Nobel Prize winner, traveler to the 3rd world, etc. I remember him as President and that many disliked him because of the hostages and energy crisis. I think he was just too nice for the job of POTUS! I like his wife Rosalyn too.

Anyone like him or read his books, or met him?

Yes, I agree with you about him. Wonderful human being.

I met him on a Habitat for Humanity project. He's simply a wonderfully nice guy who had a cool job once... He is as "down to earth" as anyone with his history could possibly be, and he still swings a mean hammer!

He's one of the few people that I would love to have lunch with. He is the world's #1 peacemaker. :sunny:

He has a first cousin named Frances that was my mother's best friend for many years. Frances moved to another state when she and her DH retired and they only keep in touch now via Christmas cards, etc. Anyway, long before Jimmy got into politics, mom had heard through Frances about him and what a wonderful person he was. Frances and her DH went to the presidential inauguration and my mom selected her gown and accessories for the occasion. :teeth:

I am absolutely NO FAN of Jimmy Carter. He was a horrible president and never misses an opportunity to embrace every left wing thug. He in fact, thought our own Revolutionary War was unnecessary. He is embraced abroad by those who are anti American and could easily be described as the United State's first anti American president. It is frightening to think of what he would have given to the Soviet Union in terms of concessions in the cold war had Reagan NOT been elected. Lets not forget that he gave away the Panama Canal that Americans built and ran. So not only was he an ineffectual president at home and abroad but he has, to say the least, been a nuisance Ex President. He is one guy that should have stuck to growing peanuts and hammering nails.

One cannot make peace by capitulating to every third world thug. Yasser Arafat received the Nobel Peace prize as well. I guess Jimmy Carter was a good runner up to him.

Yeah, darnit! And he built all of those habitat for humanity homes for the less fortunate! How dare he! t   hose folks should just learn to pull themselves up by their bootstraps!

He should stick to building houses. He is one man who should keep the hammer in his hand and THE NAILS IN HIS MOUTH. In other words, he should shut up. He is much more "admirable" when he is silent.

He wasn't much of a president, but I guess you could make the case that he's an OK ex-president.

I got my first real job just before Carter became prez, and I remember how hopeless everything was back then. Mortgage rates were 18% and higher; none of us ever figured that we would be able to afford our own home. It seemed totally inconceivable to our generation.

From Wikipedia:
During the Presidential campaign of 1976 campaign, Democratic candidate Jimmy Carter made frequent references to the Misery Index. The term -- coined by Chicago Economist Robert Barro in the 1970s -- simply adds together the rates of inflation and unemployment, and by the summer of 1976 the Misery Index was 13.57%. Carter stated that no man responsible for giving the country a misery index that high had a right to even ask to be President. Carter, of course, won the 1976 election. However, by 1980, when President Carter was running for re-election against Ronald Reagan, the Misery Index had reached an all-time high of 21.98%. Carter lost the election to Reagan.
But it's like John Huston's character says in Chinatown, "Politicians, public buildings, and *****s all get respectable if they last long enough."

Dawn do you ever have anything nice to say?

Back to the OP - I did meet Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter about 6 years ago and they were wonderful people. He has done more AFTER his term was up than any other. He may not have been cut out for the Presidency but he was a great MAN. He has done so much for the less fortunate all over the world. As a born and bred Georgian I'm happy to claim him. :)

I think he is one of the better ex-presidents. You dont see Clinton helping folks since he retired.

Because they were polite, outgoing and pleasant that translates into a 'wonderful man'? Yes he has done more after his term than any other president. He has embraced as friends Castro, Ortega, Kim Il Sung and Arafat. He, as an ex president has seated himself beside Michael Moore. He has referred to the American people abroad as "stupid people. He has undermined our foriegn policy to the point that during the first Gulf War he wrote to Thatcher, Mitterand, Gorbochov and other world leaders appealing to them to undermine President Bush I's efforts. This has nothing to do with being Republican or Democrat. It has to do with being a decent human being. He is hiding his true self behind Habitat for Humanity. I have something nice to say when I can comment on a decent human being.

I totally agree!

No I say he's a "wonderful man" because he's done great works since his presidency. I know people who have known them literally their entire lives and they echo that sentiment - not because they are pleasant but because they are good people. As a liberal I have no issue with Michael Moore - is he radical sometimes? Yes but so is Rush Limbaugh and you don't see conservatives avoiding him like the plague. You know what he's right - sometimes Americans, and I would include myself in that, are stupid. If you think that is not true than well....

I really have no need to argue this with you. I've seen so many of your posts over the years and you seem to need a hobby besides looking for threads where you can complain and contradict whatever the OP says or starting threads just to :stir:

Sorry OP -

Sorry OP -

No need to look to "stir" the pot here. Jimmy Carter uses Habitat to camoflauge the petty, vengeful, bitter man that he actually is, having earned the title, "worst president ever".

Thought this thread was about Carter, not Nixon? :teeth:
