Jimmy Carter

How can people be so hateful to Jimmy Carter, yet so blind to the current administration. It's just mind boggling. And very inconsistent.

Jimmy Carter has done so much after his presidency. He really is a good man.

I know the "arguements" of the Pharisees well. They have been used in history to justify many things including slavery of our fellow man and bigotry towards those who look different from us.

I didn't see Jesus lifting a sword for His freedom. In fact, according to His teachings, by NOT doing so - he "freed" all of us. Since He is the Christian's teacher, you would think that Christian's would be more interested in following His example than saving their own skins. But, it's clear that fear of the world guides many of them more than fear of the Lord.

Incidently, this why Jimmy Carter is pro-life. He does not believe Jesus would approve of abortion, war, or the death penalty. When he was President he wanted to prevent women from having abortions be starting the WIC program and increasing funds for family planning and sex education.

Wow! can't believe this thread hasn't been shut down.
Seldom have I seen so much libelous bile so callously dished out.
I find it amazing the very depth of misinterpretation/misrepresentation of historical fact.
Yep, I don't think Jimmy Carter was the best of presidents & there are a number of reasons why he may not have been, from his own failings & from those situations which he inherited as well as the politicians we had to work with.

I do think he is a God fearing, upstanding American & citizen of the world. I firmly believe that history will judge him as a true, patriotic American & a tireless worker for the advancement of liberty, in our own country as well as abroad.
As for how the Lord will judge him, I do not pretend to know~

I will not go back on to this thread, while I think it's wonderful we can all have our opinions, it is so sad a few have chosen to take the low road--

I could care less about Jimmy Carter's time as president. It is what he has done since that makes me respect him. Yes, HH is a wonderful program, but I think his efforts that helped eliminate Guinea worm infestations around the world should be respected. I watched a program about Guinea worms. Their eggs are ingested from contaminated water. The worms grow in the persons digestive track until they are several feet in length. Then, they bore their way out through a person's skin. How horrible! Carter helped eradicate this horrible condition. This is just one of the health programs he has helped launch in third world countries. I have great respect for Jimmy Carter.

I totally agree. Habitat for Humanity is the best known of Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter's charitable works in the United States, but it is really only the beginning of their work personally and through The Carter Center.

I won't argue the point that Jimmy Carter is not the worst President ever. I don't feel he was the absolute worst, but I also don't feel he was a very good President.

And as far as "nobody taking Jimmy Carter seriously anymore...."

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Crap, there are certain people that can't even get 98% of the DIS Community Board to take them seriously anymore. Jimmy Carter has spent his time Post Presidency trying to make a difference. I respect that.

Jimmy Carter was an ineffective communicator while he was president. He inherited the consequences of bad fiscal policies of both Nixon and Johnson. He made sure he'd be a one-term president when he appointed Paul Volcker to the Fed. It was the right thing for the country, and Volcker broke the back of inflation setting the stage for the mostly positive economic growth we've enjoyed for the past couple decades or so. Volcker's tight money policies were painful at first, costing Carter re-election.

I think Carter is a truly decent human being, something rare in a politician. I think he's a much more effective ex-president than he was a president.

To be honest, they both suck/ed at being President.

I cannot help but say that if someone isn't seeing at least some of the tremendous amount of good that has happened through the Carter Center - they don't want to see it.

Yup, wasn't a great president - but not the worst, that is for sure. ;)

And I cannot say enough about how much I respect how he handles his religious point of view as it relates to his professional life.

You may not agree with the comments but there is nothing libelous about them.
Furthermore, I see no "misrepresentation of historical fact". Jimmy Carter's biggest problem during his presidency was Jimmy Carter himself.

And I'm back! :goodvibes

Exam went ok I guess, I bought some cookies and am munching on them now as we speak! The only thought I've had subsequent to this article is:

Personally, I think it's been quite obvious why so many were opposed to us invading Iraq (as they choose to call it). It's been hashed and rehashed to death, but it doesn't change the facts.

As for this quote, if you really knew anything about the Bible, you'd know that the original Hebrew test said, "Murder" not kill. There is a HUGE difference and it's how I can reconcile it.

I hope little by little that someone stands up against these brutal dictators and eventually, everyone will be free. It's not going to happen in my lifetime, but I pray that the day does arrive. Appeasement is never going to make that dream a reality.

Emphasis added.

Even so, it's still infamously hard to interpret. At law, a murder is a killing with intent to cause grievous bodily harm or worse.

[EDIT] On reading further, I've identified an important difference: good human being versus good premier. You could say that it's impossible to be both, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I've always said that he's the best ex-president we've had yet.

I'm a huge Clinton fan, but I think Jimmy Carter has done more to help not just Americans but people around the world. Can't say that for many of the former presidents or current.

I think he is a good person. Some people will never appreciate some ex presidents no matter what side they were on politcally. (that goes both ways for dems and repubs ) He could of cured cancer and and defeated world hunger, but it wouldn't matter at all because he was a democrat.

PlanoGirl,

I've been reading thru some of the exchanges, and its becoming clear that you (for whatever reason) seem to think that Dawn is a bit to the political 'right', and you are having trouble finding a plane on which to communicate. To that end, I'm gonna send you an email of a GOP guy that is a good bit more 'centrist' (than Dawn), and perhaps you could bounce some ideas off of him.

lessee..

His email is Karl_Rove@quicknet-washington.gov

That's not true at all. Frankly, I don't care what Carter is doing now. I only care about what he did as President and I don't think that's much at all! It's commendable for anyone to be involved in charity work, whether that's Carter, you, or the man in the moon. I don't feel he should get more credit and pats on the back for it than my neighbor who volunteers 30 hours per week.

As for presidents however, Carter is definitely no Clinton, and Bush 43 is certainly no Reagan.
