Jiminy's June 2015 W.I.S.H. Weight Loss Challenge!! Any and All welcome to join!!

fly by -- looks like everyone is pumped up and doing fantastic!!!! let's keep our momentum going!!!

biggest accomplishment -- that's kinda hard for me I have a couple. I think the biggest is not giving up when on seeking a diagnosis when I knew something had gone drastically wrong with my health. one benefit of our WISH routines is that we get to know our bodies very well...and I knew a switch had flipped and I refused to give up when doctors told me there was nothing wrong. it was a long road but I can honestly say had I not kept pursuing, I would be either dead or completely disabled by the disease I was proven to have had. Now my big accomplishments are smaller b/c the after affect of being undiagnosed for a few years, and then the treatments/surgeries have left permanent physical consequences...but I'm just happy to be functional!!

now for the less bigger accomplishment - this grad party we are having Sunday. wow, pinterest has really raised the bar on party hostessing! we have some really cute decoations planned, I've been making lists for three weeks to pace myself but to get the prep work done. our yard looks great, the flowers are blooming and I have all kinds of family members coming over to help. I'm stoked!

had a great WO at the gym today, I've been in PT for my lower back issues that had put me over the edge last month. So the restrictions complicate my WO a bit, but my core is getting stronger. my PT told me I was 'cheating' on my pelvic tilts (pilates, yoga) and truly I had no idea! I was visualizing tilting my pelvis back instead of focusing on contracting my abs and then the tilt occurs secondarily. so, working on that...LOL. always working on getting stronger, right LOSERS!

oh more more shout out -- I just went to my 6 month endo visit and I was down 9 lbs from November!! she told me that every time she sees me I look a bit healthier and brighter! YES! she followed that up with how concerned she was for me when I first went to her...2.5 years ago just before my adrenal surgery. so wow that feels fantastic when a doc can say she notices a difference! I was getting really bummed about slow weight loss, but those 1-2 lbs lost per month do add up and I need to remember that! in another 6 months I could be down another 9 lbs forever! that will be tricky though with too many vacations coming! darn that luck!

Is there room for 1 more? I'm a newbie and I'm late getting started but I'm getting started! :) My goal for June is to be down 10lbs. To help accomplish that I'm meeting up with a very good friend 5 mornings a week and we are walking for about 45 minutes each morning. Still trying to figure the eating part out, making small changes in the hopes of finding something that is healthy and works for weight loss!

So, there were timbits and kit kat minis at work today. As well as a 240 calorie hot chocolate (Whhhhhaaaat?) that was guilt tripped on me by a coworker (it was a take it or sneakily dump it down the sink situation). Sigh. Goodbye lovely dinner I planned, hello egg white omelet.

Planning to go to the gym later tonight to work off all the sugar.

there are great you tube videos that just exercise upper body, with light weights. I did most of them sitting when I had my torn foot tendon.
So true! I have weights at home and will definitely do other things that don't involve the foot too much. Just bummed because long walks have been my favorite thing lately. Thanks!

WELCOME! Your water and gym classes will definitely help you lose the 5 lb! Zipping shorts is so important!!:o

How about an Ipod nano..... super small and super easy to use!

WOWZA! What an amazing accomplishment!! I'm sure that your life has made a HUGE TURN AROUND now that you are slimmer and stronger. Sorry about your brother though. It must have been a huge shock. But he would be SO PROUD OF YOU! And imagine the other family members that you have inspired to get healthy! SO GLAD to have you here with the group!! :teeth:

I can only imagine how crazy busy you are with 4 kiddos and all that goes along with that! Going to the gym before the day gets crazy would be great if you can make it work for you..... but early alarm clocks are NOT for everyone! Good luck making a workout plan that fits with your busy life!

I try to always have some sort of contingency plan/back-up plan. Stopping for a string cheese and an apple at a grocery store instead of fast-food (or better yet, a vegetarian Chipotle salad bowl with guacamole and no dressing!!).... loading up my plate with salad and grilled chicken rather than ribs and potatoes at the buffett....... sticking with crudite and hummus rather than chips and dip at the party..... white wine spritzer and a handful of nuts instead of the craft beer and bacon-wrapped scallops at a cocktail party...... celery with Laughing Cow cheese and a seltzer rather than a beer and crackers and cheese after a long hard day. There have been a FEW TIMES when there truly was no "better" option and occasionally I have made the decision to either go hungry or eat a little of what is available and make up for the calorie overage at the next meal.

A detour in my workout schedule is tougher because I really don't LIKE to exercise so I relish a great excuse!!

Good for you for catching the 90 pounds EARLY!! Welcome!!:flower3: We are happy to have you here! BTW, is your forum name based on P.Town on Cape Cod?

Good for you!!! I've resorted to pouring SALT over goodies in the trash just so they would STOP calling my name! Or put it down the garbage disposal and run plenty of water over it. It is amazingly how LOUD cookies can call me!!:sad2: Love the idea of "party night" for the kids!!

HELLO and WELCOME!! :sunny: Getting fit and walking for a Disney trip is the BEST motivation BY FAR!!! Share with us what "healthier food choices" looks like to you!
Thanks!! I'm a junk food junkie! I want dessert after every meal, and in between lol!! I will definitely have cheat days since we have family get togethers once a week, but I hope to say "YES" more to fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean protein.

You are SO BRAVE to document this journey with some photos! I honestly wish I had done more of them along the way!

Bicep curls (using things like gallon jugs or cans), wall push-ups, tricep dips (using body weight).

Great job making your fridge HEALTHY FOOD FRIENDLY by prepping everything! I've been doing that with melon lately and it works great!

Good job reminding yourself that you cannot change the past.... but you definitely can learn from it! And remember.... if HUNGER isn't the question, then FOOD isn't the answer!! Love the word "freggies"!!

WOOHOO on 48 hours of tracking!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!! And congrats on the upcoming nuptials! THere is NOTHING like a Disney trip to motivate you to get stronger and slimmer.... and I would imagine that that goes DOUBLE for DISNEY-MOON!! You still have time to make some great progress. On my "millionth" time on this journey I was determined to go back to Disney no heavier than I had been on the previous trip.... but I only had about 14 weeks to lose about 30 pounds. I made it my MISSION every day to eat RIGHT ON TRACK and hit the gym every chance I got.... and I managed to lose about 35 pounds in those 14 weeks and returned to Disney just a little slimmer than I had been previously!

But remember.... you need to start making SUSTAINABLE changes. If the new "habits" you learn aren't going to stick, then the weight will come back on eventually. But making some BIG changes for a jump start is certainly a good step in the right direction! Do you have some healthy delicious low carb meals/recipes in mind?

SO JEALOUS of your upcoming vacation! Guess I will have to continue to live vicariously through you!

And we are SO happy to have you here!!

That is a HUGE accomplishment! If you can do that, you can definitely do this!!

That is a big accomplishment.... especially when you get roadblocks tossed in front of you!! You are singing to the choir about procrastination! I am SO GOOD at it!

*********************************

Okay friends.... I started this post at 10:45 this morning but ran out of time to finish it. I'm SURE that there are a a few more posts to catch up with by now!..............P

Good morning all! Welcome to your QOTD for Wednesday, June 3, 2015:

Tell us about a BIG accomplishment that you achieved in your life (other than raising amazing kiddos)? Quit smoking? Started running? Finished a degree?? Learned to cook the perfect pot roast? Lead a successful fundraiser for a charity? Taught a class? Conquered a phobia or fear? Faced down a bully?

Now take the steps involved in climbing that particular "mountain".....how can you use some of the lessons that you learned when tackling that challenge to help you with your weight loss/weight maintenance goals and exercise goals? Using a planner/scheduler? Making mini-goals? Keeping lists? Getting together with others who are working on the same goal? Asking for HELP? (I know that is a big one for me.... HELP is a four letter word in my house.)

Let's get the chatter going!

View attachment 100606
I finished grad school. It was 2 years in a school I loved, but a city I hated. I toyed with the idea of quitting and relocating to a different school, but I stayed with it. I had days when I didn't work as hard as I should have and I was just not doing the right thing, but I got back on track and did what I had to do to finish what I had started. I allowed myself to have days where I made mistakes but I didn't use it as an excuse to completely throw in the towel. I simple considered it a hiccup in the progress and then moved on.

One of my biggest accomplishments is really an accomplishment I share with my daughter. My daughter is a heart and stroke patient. She decided she wanted to do the Princess Half Marathon. I started off at 220 lbs. We trained for 10 months. She left me behind every time we would run :-) We made it halfway through the course!! Unfortunately we had to stop because of a friction injury, but I was very proud oft he both of us:yay: Another big accomplishment for me was becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist 8-)

My biggest achievement would be graduating college in a field no one in my family (but my hubby) thought I could do. I logged the hours and made it.
My second biggest achievement, is last I ran my first 5k. First off I am not a runner and never was. Second off I had people who doubted me from the start. Somehow that pushed me more to prove to myself and them that I can do whatever I put my mind to. Hearing my dad say how proud he was of me and give me running advice was the best (He is a retired Marine). Now I love running. Its my stress reliever. (Granted I had to stop due to health issues that hoping are officially solved today. :D)

I just got home from the Dr and I'm in a boot for 4-8 weeks with a stress fracture in my foot! Ugh! I know it could be worse and I'm glad I am not on crutches or anything, but I was really wanting to up my exercise a lot this month! I can still do some things, and will do whatever I can. But it's still a little frustrating. I will just have to be that much more careful with food choices! Not to mention heading to WDW in 6 weeks!

Ouch! But there are still plenty of upper body exercises you can do while still in the boot.

Not having my best day today, but tomorrow is a new day. I cooked some zucchini earlier, and I'll be cooking up some eggplant tomorrow and having a veggie wrap for lunch (with some leftover veggies available for general use afterwards).
I did have a nice run today - I run for a full hour for the first time, and got up to 5.12 miles!

My biggest achievement to date is probably graduating college. There were a series of roadblocks (caused both by the school and myself) and I really dug myself into a hole the first couple of years I was in school. But I turned it around and kicked myself into high gear and graduated on time and with a pretty decent GPA.

^Anyone else see a theme? I'm a PRO procrastinator. Nothing like the last minute!
THIS!!
If my biggest accomplishment can't be my amazing girls then it is my education. I always wanted to go to law school but between a bad home situation and PLENTY of poor decisions of my own, it was never more than a distant, impossible dream. After many stops and starts and other difficulties I quit my minimum wage job and moved into a dorm at IU. I fixed my completely jacked up GPA and got several scholarship offers for law school. I graduated 15 years ago and other than my children, still my proudest moment. Now the weight thing. . .

I hope you don't mind a late arrival! I'd love to join in. I'd made very good progress with weight loss in '13-'14, mostly thanks to a daughter who decided I need to run (walk) 5Ks with her, but I went back to school in the fall and between cafeteria food and too many take-out dinners when I was working on assignments I gained it back and then some. So I'm working on getting back on track over the summer in hopes of building some healthier new habits and coping strategies before going back to 16 credit hour craziness in the fall!

For June my goals are all about activity level. I'm not going to worry about weight; if I'm active the weight tends to take care of itself, and summer is my "good time" for eating habits anyway because I'm a farmer's market junkie. So my goal is to get back to a consistent 15 minute mile pace over a 5K distance. Step one is just getting used to walking that distance again. I did it today on the high school track during my daughter's softball practice and despite a terrible 18.5min pace I am wiped out from the sudden burst of activity! I am going to walk at least a half hour per day, every day, with 2-3 longer walks a week to see how I'm doing against my goal pace.

The big challenge I have coming up this month is vacation in two weeks. We all know how much walking a Disney vacation is, but it isn't really exercise-type walking. I plan to continue my routine as much as possible while we're there but the two days of driving each way are bound to be sedentary and I know it'll take some serious self-discipline to go out for a walk before or after hitting the parks while we're at WDW.

I'm registered for the 5K during our town's festival the last week of July, so I need to stay focused and get serious about this!

That's awesome! Great job. I was hoping to kick butt on the exercise part of things and slowly get into better eating habits. Need to get into that part a little quicker now. Ha. And yes there is still lots I can do! :)

Morning all! Here is your QOTD for Thurday, June 4, 2015:

strive for.png

What kind of PROGRESS are you striving for today??

Morning again! No time to chat right now.... I need to be to school a little early today. But I am pretty sure that I WILL have some computer time unless things get crazy! I'll pop on later and say a a real welcome to some newbies and catch up with the chatter!................P

A day off today .. Started by making my 17 yo a fabulous grilled cheese before school and she only ate half ( of course) before I could even think about eating it I fed it to the disposal (a tragic waste) but just saved myself lots of calories and bad calorie start to the day - just whipped up a fruit smoothie and then I'm off for a walk ... It's this kind of mindset that I need to keep the momentum going !!! Good luck everyone !!!

Good for you!!!! :)

Biggest accomplishment--this is a hard one. Moving in our late 40s to somewhere new where we knew no one was hard and continues to be a challenge. But I guess I would say my biggest accomplishment is finishing a full marathon. I have an autoimmune disease and chronic injuries so it was hard! And I finished almost 30 minutes slower than I trained for due to horrible back spasms. At the time I was so grossly disappointed with my time that I couldn't see the accomplishment for what it was. Now I do. :) Still disappointed in my time, but very proud that I finished.

Love the quote today Pamela!
Today I am striving for another day of tracking under my belt. I am starting my fourth day today. :) I am making it easier for myself when I can--for instance last night I had a veggie burrito bowl (7 million ingredients ;) ) and I used the Chipotle veggie bowl to make it easier to log. I figured if anything the Chipotle bowl was probably higher in calories. :)

Man, life gets in the way when you are trying to exercise more and eat less...Yesterday was not a good day because of work and today didn't start out too well either. BUT, I am determined to make PROGRESS today. When I go to the grocery store tonight, I am going to buy some healthy foods and I think I am going to start Weight Watchers again. Here's to a new day!

Just stopping by to say that I just got back from my lunch break - I walked 3 laps around the parking lot (which comes to 2.1 miles) in 40 minutes, with a few lunges thrown in the mix. I know 20 minutes/mile is a bit rough, but I've only been doing the "walking on my lunch break" for a week now (not including Saturday and Sunday) so that will hopefully improve. Plus I took the stairs back up to my 3rd floor office afterward. Now I'm going to go die at my desk and drink my protein shake. ;-)

And thank you for the welcome, @pjlla! I promise to come back and respond better after work. :-)

What a great way to spend your lunch time!! I used to be SO GOOD about bringing my sneakers and getting outside during my lunch/breaks but lately I've fallen away from the habit! Time to get back to it!!

I love hearing about everyone's dedication and how and what they're doing to stay on target. Question, when I did these challenges on these boards last year, I was supposed to PM the leader with my initial weigh-in. Pjlla, was I supposed to do that?

Have been struggling with a new work schedule and have to be in so early now and am really missing being able to work out first thing in the morning, but this week I've been consistently getting PM workouts in and it's getting easier to stay motivated. Hoping for a great weigh-in Friday!

You can PM me if you would like some confirmation of your goal, but for June you are tracking your goal yourself and reporting that to the group. I will just be taking your information and using it to update our percentages toward goal every week. I struggle with math and percentages and such, so this is my concession to that weakness..... you do the math, I post the results!

Maybe PM workouts are best for you?? I prefer to get up early and get it out of the way if possible.

fly by -- looks like everyone is pumped up and doing fantastic!!!! let's keep our momentum going!!!

biggest accomplishment -- that's kinda hard for me I have a couple.

SO WONDERFUL that you were an advocate for YOURSELF and YOUR HEALTH! No one knows YOU better than YOU!! It is so frustrating when the doctors think they know you better... :(

now for the less bigger accomplishment - this grad party we are having Sunday. wow, pinterest has really raised the bar on party hostessing! we have some really cute decoations planned, I've been making lists for three weeks to pace myself but to get the prep work done. our yard looks great, the flowers are blooming and I have all kinds of family members coming over to help. I'm stoked!

Been there, done that (in 2013) and doing it again next year. And YES, the bar has definitely been raised in the last few years.... no longer is a nice sheet cake, a bbq, and a cooler of soda the "norm" for grad parties! There are balloon sculptures and photo collages and fancy treats that look like mortar boards and diplomas and and if your deck doesn't look like something from Better Homes and Gardens....well.... you are a FAILURE! We literally spent an entire year working on the house and yard to be ready for DD's party and now it all needs to be done again!! Although I've been thinking about DS's party for a while and I'm trying to convince myself that I DO NOT need to make myself nuts and that the party WILL be fun even if I don't redecorate the ENTIRE house!

So RELAX and ENJOY the day!!! I was so nuts the day of DD's party I barely remember it and we got very few photos because I hardly left the kitchen. It was a great party and the food was good.... but I wish I could have relaxed and enjoyed it a bit more. Good for you for getting help! If it wasn't for my Mom and Dad our party would have been a mess!

had a great WO at the gym today, I've been in PT for my lower back issues that had put me over the edge last month.

WONDERFUL that you are getting some feedback on your workouts! No sense in working hard if it isn't accomplishing the goal!

oh more more shout out -- I just went to my 6 month endo visit and I was down 9 lbs from November!! she told me that every time she sees me I look a bit healthier and brighter! YES! she followed that up with how concerned she was for me when I first went to her...2.5 years ago just before my adrenal surgery. so wow that feels fantastic when a doc can say she notices a difference!

Always room!! WELCOME!!:flower1: You've got a plan in place for workouts and I'm sure the eating will come together!!

Sorry that there was some sabotage in your day, but good for you for NOT letting it derail you entirely!! You definitely worked around the roadblock succcessfully!

So true! I have weights at home and will definitely do other things that don't involve the foot too much. Just bummed because long walks have been my favorite thing lately. Thanks!

Well.... do what you can and take care of that foot! You will be able to walk EVEN BETTER once it is healed properly.

Congrats on finishing grad school! Do you mind if I asked what you were learning and where you went to school? DD will be looking into grad schools next spring probably and it is nice to hear some feedback.

One of my biggest accomplishments is really an accomplishment I share with my daughter. My daughter is a heart and stroke patient. She decided she wanted to do the Princess Half Marathon. Unfortunately we had to stop because of a friction injury, but I was very proud oft he both of us:yay: Another big accomplishment for me was becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist 8-)

LOTS of big accomplishments!! Wowza on the Princess half!! Even if you didn't finish, you beat EVERYONE who didn't even try (like me)!!

My biggest achievement would be graduating college in a field no one in my family (but my hubby) thought I could do. I logged the hours and made it.

Ouch! But there are still plenty of upper body exercises you can do while still in the boot.

I did have a nice run today - I run for a full hour for the first time, and got up to 5.12 miles!

That run sounds very nice! And a good time too!

I have a great recipe for grilled zucchini hummus wraps that is delicious... pretty simple but so good and it gets my DS to eat veggies!

THIS!!

I always wanted to go to law school but between a bad home situation and PLENTY of poor decisions of my own, it was never more than a distant, impossible dream. I graduated 15 years ago and other than my children, still my proudest moment. Now the weight thing. . .

SUCH an impressive accomplishment..... goes to show that NOTHING is an "impossible" dream if you want it badly enough to WORK HARD!:teeth:

I hope you don't mind a late arrival! I'd love to join in. I'd made very good progress with weight loss in '13-'14, mostly thanks to a daughter who decided I need to run (walk) 5Ks with her, but I went back to school in the fall and between cafeteria food and too many take-out dinners when I was working on assignments I gained it back and then some. BIG WARM WELCOME to you!!! :) Congrats on going back to school and exercising your BRAIN! So jealous of your upcoming Disney vacation.... be sure to come back prepared to tell us all about it!!

That's awesome! Great job. I was hoping to kick butt on the exercise part of things and slowly get into better eating habits. Need to get into that part a little quicker now. Ha. And yes there is still lots I can do! :)

Maybe this sedentary time for you would be a good time to look into some new healthy recipes and planning some menus???

A day off today .. Started by making my 17 yo a fabulous grilled cheese before school and she only ate half ( of course) before I could even think about eating it I fed it to the disposal (a tragic waste) but just saved myself lots of calories and bad calorie start to the day - just whipped up a fruit smoothie and then I'm off for a walk ... While I hate wasting food too, it is much better alternative than "waisting" it, right???

Well.... here at school with a little bit of chatter time!! :D I think a few more posts have come in since I started writing this an hour ago so I'm off to check..........P

Good for you!!!! :)

I'm SO GLAD you can look back on that accomplishment with pride! It was truly a great accomplishment.... and like I said to Candy1971, no matter HOW SLOW, you beat EVERYONE who didn't even try!!

Great idea! I do that sometimes too (the logging something similar if I can't find the exact item). I do love a good veggie burrito bowl.....whether I make it at home or buy it at Chipotle (or my other fav spot, Boloco)! I actually have a homemade Boloco/Chipotle night in the menu planning rotation. It is a bit of extra work (lots of cutting and cooking onions, peppers, and other veggies, plus meat and avocado and salad greens) but it is a fun "buffet" style night and everyone has exactly the BOWL they want!!

Let me know if you want to talk WW with me! I'd love to chat with a fellow WW member! Today, in fact, is my two year anniversary of being a WW leader! I never imagined I would make it this long!
