Thanks. An announcement would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. I think we will eventually see the attraction, but Disney is going to remain silent as long as possible in case the feel the need to postpone it or redesign it (ie slash the budget for it).

As they say in the surveillance biz, the chatter has been increasing. Let's hope we hear something official soon.

Given what I've been seeing (not that it is much or from any inside source - but what I read on multiple other sites) Forbidden Mountain seems to be the next big project to be optimistic about. I mean, only optimistic about something actually happening. Beyond that I'm sure once something is announced we'll all find a way to be disappointed in the effort .

You know, a height restricted clone that uses old technology and splits up families when Disney could have put the money to better use by.............................you know the drill .

You know, one of the biggest reasons I really think FM might be close to being announced is that I don't hear certain people around here poopooing the possibility that the attraction is going forward. Heaven forbid some should have to comment positively on something .

You're right. Who are we to hurt the feelings of a multi-billion dollar corporation whose only interest seems to be taking our money with the least possbile effort.

I mean, as a customer it's simply not my place to ask that they earn my money. It must be freely given.

No offense intended, but I view you as a good source of someone to throw cold water on us when we talk about big new projects that might be happening, but aren't likely to. I actually appreciate that, as you often keep some things a little more based in reality than they might otherwise be around here. Do you think we will hear something soon? Would soon be 3 months? Six? A year? Two? Do your sources tell you that the greenbacks just don't exist for this addition? What say you, AV? Thanks.

Yes, I think that was the last description that was floating around a few months ago.

I haven’t written anything about ‘Forbidden Mountain’ (only a working title as I understand it) precisely because of the “can’t people ever say anything positive” bit. But it’s not for the reason everyone is going to jump on.

The “rumors” basically say this ride is a decorated roller coaster along the lines of 'Rock'n Rollercoaster': the show elements are there to enhance the coaster; the coaster is not there to create anykind of storyline. They go on to say that Disney feels it’s “owed” a coaster from a certain manufacturer because of maintenance issues on another Disney bought. For that last year or so various groups within Attractions have been fighting over who gets the track.

Following the “new order” of things, the track will be decorated to “theme” it and make it a Disney attraction. In the case of ‘FM’, it’s rumored to be a Himalayan theme of mountains and caves. On fact it is rumored to be described as a “squished Matterhorn”. Depending on the model Disney acquires, it will feature a different variety of coaster tricks. Stuff like height restriction and other “family splitting” issues depend on which one they choose as well.

None of this means that it’s going to be a bad roller coaster and I’m not bashing things just to bash things and it’s not a sign that frogs will fall from the sky and the oceans will boil.

My concern, and where I know people will jump up and down and scream “basher!!”, is that Disney is once again taking the easy way out. Yes, it will be a really nice roller coaster. It might even be a good ride.

But while just strive for good – why not try for great.

There is something missing from Disney these days. It’s pride. Disney is at it’s best when it sets its own standards, when it has an internal sense of where the bar is – and where the bar should be raised to.

But now the entire company is bent on pandering for money. Quick, cheap and easy is the measure of projects these days: everything from ‘Jungle Book 2’to infant toys in the stores to ‘Forbidden Mountain’. There is no sense of grandeur, no attempt to improve or grow, no hint that anyone, anywhere is dreaming of something new.

The tried, the true, the safe, the predictable may make the tiny heart of a stock-option robber baron get all warm and fuzzy, but it does nothing for the public. People buy “Disney” because they want to buy dreams. One guy built a huge company by giving them dreams beyond what the public could have imagined. Another guy is now destroying the company by selling the public less than it wants.

‘Forbidden Mountain’ may be a good ride, but it’s not anyone dream. For me, personally, there’s no sense in creating something unless it’s the absolute best you can do. There’s no sense in even starting unless it challenges you and pushes you. That’s what made Disney unique in all of Hollywood. It was a constant striving to do more, to be better. The world is filled with lazy people who attempt to do the least amount possible; it’s a world I don’t like. It’s depressing watching Disney fall into that shadow.

I suppose it was somewhat innovative of Disney to buy the Mega:Spinner from a company most known for its military-grade g-force simulators, rather than out of the same catalog from which they acquired DinoRama and the bulk of Flik's Fun Fair.

I think most of the discontent concerning M:S has very little to do with what the ride itself is going to be like, and is more a result of the sense that in some important ways, Disney no longer actually "does" very much... outside of generating purchase orders.

It's like going back to your parents' place to get some of Mom's home cooked meatloaf, only to discover that she picked up dinner from Cracker Barrel. Even though you haven't tasted it yet, and even though you've been known to enjoy a Cracker Barrel dinner every now and again, it's definitely _not_ what you expected when you accepted the invitation.

You know, if Disney had not pissed off Bolliger and Mabiliard several years ago they would not have to be fighting over sloppy seconds from Intamin and/or Vekoma.
