Jill Duggar's wedding

They used birth control and wrongfully believe they suffered a miscarriage of their 2nd baby due to birth control use. I read the loss of the first baby really affected them and lead to this drastic change.

edit to add I found an article that stated it was their 2nd child and since they believe in life at conception they also now believe birth control can cause miscarriages. It seems if it causes miscarriages or not is depended on you religious believes because it can prevent implantation and growth of a fertilized egg.

Bolding is mine

This is not true. Birth control pills stop ovulation. No egg is released and no fertilization happens. Sorry, this is one of the things that drives me crazy about that type of thinking. Know your facts! (This is not directed at you, just the article). :)

I thought that was what birth control does but seems like the Duggars were told birth control caused them to have a miscarriage.

Dan Savage just wrote an awesome article about the Duggars and birth control. I can't link it because it's NSFW, to say the least but I recommend reading it!

Sorry on my phone so really hard to post a link but if you go here http://www.swbts.edu/campus-news/ne...re-story-behind-e2809819-kids-countinge28099/

it has the families full story. Interesting that Jim Bob admits he use to be an angry father. I also wonder if the "supporters" they talk about are the ones who got them involved in the movement they are apart of. I have always found it very interesting that a girl who was surely the "popular" girl in high school went to wanting to home school her children and not allowing them to do much at all. She was a cheerleader!

What does her school popularity and the fact that she was a cheerleader have to do with the educational decisions she makes for her children?:confused3

I know engineers, attorneys, and even former high school cheerleaders who all opted to homeschool.

I just find it interesting when people who went to brick and mortar schools choose to homeschool. I see it happening more and more and find it very interesting is all. I just wonder what the thought process is.

I was a cheerleader (& the captain of the squad during my junior & senior years) & one of the "popular girls" in school. I also was a volleyball player, the yearbook editor, & the class valedictorian.

We homeschool our children.

:confused3

Sorry for the jump to conclusion. Based on their values, I suppose they feel that homeschool is better in order to fulfill those values.

In my case it is because we ended up in a school that was very bad for my daughter. She was in a fantastic school in VA, and then we moved toMA into a very bad one. After 4 months I pulled her out and starter homeschooling because of the effect of the bullying and poor educational opportunities on her physical and mental health. We are moving again next summer and I am hoping for better schools because I do not want to homeschool high school unless I have to!

Yours are the type of story I'm use to hearing or the home schoolers I do know are from a family whose parents were also home school. I just find the decision interesting as I didn't know a single home schooled kid growing up but now several of my friends are home schooling so I have been interested in hearing from different people who have made that choice.

I am thinking that Jessa may be the "Un-Duggar!" She posted a very steamy instagram pic of her kissing Ben. Very beautiful picture too.

Wonder what Mom and Dad think about her posting steamy pics on Instagram. Wouldn't Instagram be considered too worldly for their brood?

Never mind. I just read her post on Radioisotope dating. Shame on the Duggars for doing such a poor job in education, especially science.

Not to get off topic, but I was always under the impression that birth control pills suppress ovulation so that fertilization couldn't occur BUT in cases where ovulation does take place anyway (a small percentage), the BC pills make the uterine lining less conducive for implantation of an already fertilized egg.

So I suppose that this situation is what the Duggars feel may have happened with their early miscarriages while on the pill. Fertilized egg aborting due to BC pills hormonal effect on the uterine wall.

Because she is not allowing her girls to have the same fun experiences she was able to enjoy.

I know a couple of families in my town that homeschool and their kids go to school for marching and concert band. The Duggars don't allow their kids to fraternize with anyone outside their tightly controlled circle. Just seems really sucky for the kids that they are not trusted to make good decisions.

I haven't read the whole thread but had to jump in with my two cents on two topics:

1. The PP who just told others to check their facts regarding hormonal BC needs to check his/her own facts. It is absolutely true that the second line of defense for hormonal BC is to thin the uterine lining so that implantation is less likely to occur in the event ovulation and fertilization do occur. And they do, but it is arguably very rare. This second line of defense is exactly why hormonal BC is so very effective when used correctly.

In fact the mini pill is called such because it has only one class of hormone - the one that thins the lining and prevents fertilization. The hormone that causes your body to think it's PG (and thus prevents ovulation) interferes too much with breast milk production.

Anecdotally this didn't use to be the case when BC pills first came out (in the 60's?). They were much stronger and thus nearly always prevented ovulation. But women were miserable on them and there for the low dose combo pill was invented. I know I need to provide a credible link to support my facts and will come back and do so after I get my kiddos to bed.

2. Regarding homeschooling - I LOVED school. My DH LOVED school. We both did great at it. 2 of my 3 DD's LOVE school. My third DD did great in school academically but hated it. After 7 years of watching her cope, suffer, build resilience and begin withering away I reluctantly pulled the plug on brick and mortar schools. I am homeschooling her and it is going well.

I did not want to homeschool but I felt I had no choice. It was that or lose my daughter in one way or another. For real - seriously. It was lifesaving to her to pull her out. And she is brilliant and still getting an education. My other two will get their education the old-fashioned way - public schooling.

I was just reading an article on People about which Duggar will get married next, and I think it will be Jana (she is so pretty!). But John-David is the other oldest kid still living in the house and i have to say he is majorly creepy! Like more creepy than even Jim Bob! He looks like he has an old man gut already and the glare he has just gives me the creeps!

I hope it is Jana. She is so sweet, and I really think that she is ready to leave the Duggar home.

On Facebook, they are rooting for her and Tim Tebow to be a couple, LOL.

I agree with the John David creepy vibe. He just seems to be a bit slow (and I am not being mean - my son was diagnosed with Aspergers many years ago) and he is just odd.

I don't foresee him getting married anytime soon.

#TeamJana#TeamJinger LOL

He seems reserved and blue collar to me.

So is there another Duggar courtship, or is this just fun guessing?

Honestly, I feel like John David just has no social skills. In fact, I feel that way about a few of the older boys. The girls seem much more social and able to handle that area of life better. The younger boys also seem very social and outgoing. But John David (and I can't for the life of me remember the other boys names that I'm thinking of and I'm too lazy to look right now) just seem more reserved, less social and sheltered.

I think the Duggar family is a little too extreme EVEN for a guy like Tim Tebow (and I LOVE Tim Tebow!).

Think how stifled he, and all the other adults must be. I don't think they can leave the house until married, boys or girls. I think they still sleep in one room with all the little kids.

It's gets weirder as they get older. They just do as theiy're told.

Michele and Jim Bob didn't have to live like that, but they want their kids to in the name of Gothard.
