Jill Duggar's wedding

I think the Duggar family is a little too extreme EVEN for a guy like Tim Tebow (and I LOVE Tim Tebow!).
:thumbsup2

I think Tim Tebow isn't the Duggars cup of tea. They would be horrified if Tebow fell in love with one of their daughters.

One of them is going to end up going "outside of the box" so to speak. There's always one in the bunch that becomes the rebel. Will it be Jinger?

I feeling bad for the girls who are still at home. They just lost two of the workers and I'll bet that the work is being absorbed by the other girls. I don't see Michelle taking care of her own kids.

This is so true. Michelle remarked that lots of the chores that Jill and Jessa were responsible for had to be done by others once they started courting and had less time. The girls cook, do all of the laundry, clean, pack (even for the older boys) for all trips, take care of the little "buddies", etc. Jana is like 21, right? Ugh. What a life.

If I remember right, I think Jana and John-David are both 26 (twins). It's high time they got married and start producing a litter!:lmao:

ETA: I mostly enjoy watching the show and I appreciate the family's morals, and respect them for it. The children are all well-behaved. That being said, the one thing that does sort of bother me is the pressure that is put on the kids to have grandkids ASAP. As someone who is in the middle of an infertility battle, I hope that none of those children struggle with infertility because I can't imagine the heartache that would come with that kind of pressure from the grandparents-to-be. Every time Michelle or Jim Bob mentions, "Hopefully more grandbabies soon," I just cringe.

I just looked it up. She is 24, born in 1990. Yes, she is twins with John David. Josh is 26. Way too old to have to be taking care of siblings all day and sewing wedding ties!

Do ya think the older boys are creepy because their main male influence has been Jim Bob? I think so. I think Michele was the more outgoing free spirit of yhe couple and she curtailed herself quite a bit when she met Jim Bob. I think he's been the more odd one of the couple.

Also?, someone mentioned the girls doing laundry. I think grandma Duggar has been stuck with laundry for a while. Maybe she just helps with it.

Grandma Duggar does help. For a long time, it was Jinger's jurisdiction, wasn't it. They haven't gone over jobs lately, so who knows.

Okay, a few thoughts:

1. I agree, it must be so hard for the other girls to lose such a big part of their workforce. I'm guessing they've probably recruited Johannah (who is 9) now too. Maybe her addition as a bridesmaid was part of her initiation: congrats, you're a big girl now! You get to wear a pretty dress and then cook and clean for the entire family, yay!

2. I agree, a lot of the older boys are odd. Particularly John-David, Joseph and Jeremiah too. Funny when Josh and a lot of the little boys are so charismatic.

3. I admit, at first I thought a lot of the Duggars' values were quite sweet. A bit archaic, but sweet. However, in practice, they just came off downright creepy. Everyone was so fixated on the first kiss and 'after the wedding'. It seemed like the whole purpose of getting married was so just so they could do the physical stuff rather than a symbol of their commitment to each other and their relationship, the unity of two people, etc. Now, I'm not saying that Jill and Derrick DON'T want that; they seem like a very sweet couple and totally in love. It just didn't seem to be the main purpose of the wedding.

I also worry that they've rushed into a lot of things in their relationship. It was a very short courtship and engagement (which Jill confirmed was because they didn't want to be tempted) and now pregnancy. I'm sure they're excited about it, but it made me a bit sad when they were saying things about expecting grandchildren soon, etc. to know that about a week later she would actually BE pregnant and that she didn't really have much choice in the matter. Of course, I can't say what Jill and Derrick really want, but I could have seen them moving overseas together for a few years and doing missionary/midwifery work. While I know it's not impossible to do that and have a family as I have a couple of friends whose parents did, it is certainly a lot harder with children in tow. Getting married and having children at a fairly young age is a perfectly good life choice, as is being a stay-at-home mother and wife, it's just that the Duggar girls don't seem to have much choice at all.

4. Jill's name is now 'Jill Michelle Dillard'...what a doozy of a name!

Did anyone see that Jim Bob and Michelle "re-created" Jessa's steamy kissing pic with her hubby? Cute or weird?

I saw them both (I follow them all on Twitter).

Honestly, I was a bit put off by it. I am a conservative Christian, and my beliefs on modesty align with the Duggars (I don't wear pants, for example, and haven't for about 6 years now). I was kind of shocked that they would post a picture like that on the Internet for everyone to see, even if they are married. I don't do PDA like that, and it took me by surprised that they would.

I was a little surprised (and creeped out) by it too. I felt like they were trying to compete with their daughter (see, we can be steamy too!).

I think Jim Bob just can't stand having the limelight on anyone else.

I can't look at that one...I'm afraid that would be one effective form of birth control. (Oh, the irony)

:rotfl2:

I thought the pics from both couples were a little over the top, and just too personal for social media. However, I didn't see Michelle and Jim bobs as trying to steal the limelight. I think Jessa and Ben prob got a lot of negative feedback for posting it, and so they posted a similar picture as a way of showing that they thought it was acceptable bc they are a married couple. As conservative as they are, Jim bob and Michelle have always been an affectionate couple and believe that PDA is fine when the couple is married.
