We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas, our new home :woohoo:

What can you tell me about Jiko's? I dont think Boma's is going to work with the kids, so I wanted to check Jiko's out.

Thanks!

The food at Jiko is wonderful! We eat there almost every trip. On our last trip, I had the curry shrimp and it was the best dish I had in 8 days. The kids' menu looks like standard Disney choices.

But just in case you don't know, Boma has a nice kids' section of the buffet. There are kids at Jiko .. like any Disney restaurant.. but, of the two, Boma is more kid friendly. Jiko is quiet, the service paced for a relaxing wonderful meal.

We love Jiko. We always start with the Olive flatbread. If you like scallops (and spicy food), give them a try. I had the filet last time and it was delicious! ENJOY!

We enjoy both Jiko and Boma but we reserve our trips to Jiko when our party is adults only. It's pretty quiet and slow paced fine dining there. We eat after 8pm there and have never seen many kids, if any.

I like certain dishes at Jiko, love having some great wine there, but overall, I like the variety of food better at Boma.

We love Jiko, but it's an adult place for us. Fairly unique menu offerings, fantastic wine selection, swanky environment, slower serving style and atmosphere.

Jiko is wonderful for a great meal with wonderful wine -- it's leisurely and pleasurable. You'll see kids there but Boma is actually better for kids.

how old are your children? if they are preschoolers or early elementary, boma might be the better choice. i agree that both welcome children of any age, but jiko is a slower paced meal than at boma. something i read long ago about children and signature restaurants--if your children can sit through church services then they should do fine at the restaurants. another thought is if they are older and can go to the food court on their own while the adults enjoy jiko, that might work. or even stay at the villa and have pizza. can you tell my sons are much much older?? :rotfl: whatever you decide--enjoy!!

We love Jiko, it is our must do adult night out on each trip.
The atmosphere is quiet and elegant, the setting is beautiful, the food is delicioius and the wine list is suburb. We have had wonderful service here.
On our last trip, it was very quiet and I did not see a single child in the restaurant.
I have also been with my 4 and 6 year old Grandkids. However they live in the Washington DC area and are very accoustomed to eating in adult like restaurants. They were as good as gold.
It is more of a fine, adult themed evening, but you know your children best.
Whatever you decide have a wonderful trip.

We ate at Jiko on a Saturday night around 7:00 this summer and there were kids at almost every table. I was surprised by this after what I had heard on these boards. My kids, 11 & 8 enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

On our last trip in 2007, Jiko was the best dining experience of the trip. The scallops were just amazing.

My only disappointment for our upcoming 2009 trip is that we can't go to Jiko. Two TS credits on the DDP is just too expensive (in terms of credits), and we're already going to be paying out of pocket for DD's birthday dinner at CRT.

Jiko...mmmmm.....my favorite restaurant at WDW (although Citricos is a close second). It's not as much of a kid atmosphere as Boma although there are plenty of kids there. It's a signature restaurant which means slower pace etc. They had a new beef roll appetizer when we were there last week that was to die for.

We went with a party of 6 last year for the first time last March. 4 adults and 2 17 year old boys. We love the atmosphere of the restaurant but we had
DDP and we didn't feel it was a good use of 2 credits. The entrees were not that expensive that it warranted 2 credits. We did not order apps because we did really try to stay within the DDP plan. The food was very good and as soon as we left my husband said he would like to come back when we were not on the plan. We plan on doing that this March. All in all we really liked it.

Jiko is amazing.
But it is more centralized towards the Adult crowd. Its more upscale and a bit more expensive.
Boma on the other hand has variety for a set price. 12.99 for children, 26.99 for adults during off-seasons.

Jiko - The Hummus sampler is good. So is the Oak Grilled Filet w/ Mac and Cheese with Red Wine Reduction. We have never gotten dessert there.

We celebrated my MIL's birthday at Jiko in September. We had a large party which included 5 children between the age of 4 and 7. we had a wonderful time! Our kids are very well behaved and used to eating out, so it was not a problem having them there. we were seated in the Cape Town Wine Room and received outstanding service including a wine tasting. The food was to die for, the service was outstanding. It was a wonderful evening and we will return on our next trip.

Jiko along with California Grill is our favorite place to dine at WDW. We ate there twice in October. I had the lamb shank and and pork tenderloin on my two visits.

Jiko is my all-time favorite at WDW :cloud9: Here are some of my faves:

BBQ Chicken flatbread (so yummy!)

Halibut (w/ edamame and a tomato butter sauce, among other ingredients :thumbsup2 )

Chermoula Chicken w/ preserved lemons :cloud9:

Oak-Grilled Filet with Macaroni and Cheese

Ask your server for wine recommendations if you're interested. Jiko has wonderful South African wines.

Go and ENJOY!

Amazing pictures! Our party had all of the above but the chicken. It was all AMAZING! The halibut was the best I had ever had and the mac-n-cheese is to die for!!!
