Jiko Reviews?

Jiko is my favorite restaurant on property!!

I have not had any of the chicken dishes, but we love the oak grilled fillet and DH enjoyed a seafood dish there on our first trip. We enjoy the Taste of Africa as an appetizer. For dessert, I absolutely LOVED the Tanzanian Cheesecake.

We were a little nervous about eating here because it seems so exotic, but everything was so delicious!! We have had nothing but top notch service at Jiko. We always feel special and well cared for.

If I knew I were going to die, my last meal on earth would come from Jiko.

DH and I ate at Jiko when the AKL first opned, We were not impressed. I gave it a try last August and again in November. Along with Flying Fish, it is my favorite restaurant. In reading some of the comments, it seems that there are some issues with food being undercooked. As someone who eats her steak rare and who likes her fish undercooked (sushi grade), I have no problems with Jiko. IMO, even the Yachtsman steakhouse can't cook a steak as well as Jiko. The halibut is outstanding, although I prefer to get my seafood at Flying Fish.

As with all restaurants, I am sure there are off nights, a bad server, or a poorly prepared meal. In my two most recent visits, I have not had a problem and I will be back there in about 2 weeks.

We ate at Jiko in October 2008 and were very pleased. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and quite serene - a welcome change after a few days in the parks! Our server wasn't the most attentive that we had during the trip (that honor goes to a lovely woman at the Brown Derby), but he was far from the worst we've ever had. We shared the ostrich appetizer (in an attempt to be adventurous), and it was quite good, and the bread was fantastic. I had the filet with mac & cheese and my DP had the chicken. We were both very happy with our meals. (I am far less adventurous than she is, but I went into it with an open mind, and enjoyed the new flavors.) For dessert, we shared the no-sugar-added dessert, which was some kind of spice cake with fruit, which was tasty, and they had some lovely teas to choose from to go with dessert.

Even with the less-than-stellar service, we were both quite happy with Jiko overall, and put it on our must-do list for next time. In fact, it is the restaurant that I have picked for my official birthday dinner on our next trip.

We will be dining there for the first time in a week or so. I can't wait. It will be a date night for us. DD is going in the kids club.

We went last year to Jiko's for the first time. We enjoyed it very much but we used the DDP and we felt that the waiter didn't really want to spend much time on us. Once he found out we were on the DDP we hardly saw him. I also did not feel it was a great use of 2 credits. This year my husband and I are going by ourselves and we will be paying cash or maybe even using the DDE so I hope we will be a little more excited about it. We love the feeling of the place and we hope to try more of the menu this year. We are excited to be going back.
