Is there a dress code for Jiko? We are going to go for our date night when my cousin comes to hang out with the kids. Are khaki-type shorts and a polo shirt ok for my dh or does he need long pants?

TIA!

That will be just fine. Have a wonderful evening. If you get a chance see if Jeff is working. He was our waiter the last 2x's we were there and he is excellent!

Last time we were there all eight of us in the family were in theme park casual (aka shorts, sneakers and t-shirts). We were waiting in the long PS line at Boma and kept sheepishly looking into Jiko. The staff at the podium at Jiko asked if we were interested in eating there but we said that we didn't think we were dressed appropriately. The told us they would LOVE to have us and made us feel truly welcomed. As we dined I took note of the dress of the other patrons and noticed the complete variety. Very dressed up and folks just like us. I wouldn't worry about it. Great meal... :flower:

I wouldn't eat at an upscale restuarant at home in theme park attire, and feel that just because I'm "on vacation" doesn't mean that I'm going to "slum it".

I'm going to spend a day at Epcot with a friend in October, and we're planning on eating at Citrico's for dinner. We'll bring clothes to change into before we go. It only takes a minute, and certainly will be more appropriate for finer dining.

Keep in mind that a lot of the people eating there aren't vacationers, but locals who might be celebrating something special...

Thanks everyone. Anne, I'll tell dh what you said and maybe he will feel more comfortable in long pants. We definitely aren't "slum it" kind of people anytime. DH won't wear less than a polo shirt and jeans out of the house unless he is going for a bike ride. I don't even think he takes regular t-shirts on vacation! When we first met, he was amazed that I would go to the grocery store in sweats. :rotfl2: He's reformed me; I don't do that anymore. :)

As I stated above--we were encouraged to come in and dine by the friendly waitstaff.

As opposed to thinking about the locals who might be coming in to celebrate something special, I think it is those same locals that must consider that they are going to a theme park resort where folks might be coming to dine in their park clothes. I honestly think that the average (not informed or DIS addicted) WDW resort patron really doesn't think about these things too much. They are just thrilled that they are in a resort where the whole family doesn't have to be in their Sunday best in order to eat in a great restaurant. Now, our theme park clothes might be a little nicer than average--certainly no men or teen boys in tanks with hairy armpits. :teeth:

That is a nice story, Belle5 and I think is representative of almost all WDW restaurants.

I do think if locals are interested in dining in a restaurant where other diners are dressed up...well, they certainly should know of local places where that is the norm.

My family happens to always dress up a bit for dinner at the resort restaurants at WDW but that is because we like to do so and maybe more importantly because we always return to our resort in the afternoon. But we certainly are not surprised that other diners dress differently.

In fact, that is one of the charms of WDW to me....families enjoying each other at nice restaurants regardless of how they are dressed.

Well, actually....minus the hairy armpits!! Yuck!

Pretty much how I feel too--
Never really bothered with how other people are dressed at WDW restaurants--tho green or blue hair might attract my attention just a bit :)

How people behave at the better restaurants is more important to me, and at WDW, I've not seen any correlation between how folks dress and how they behave.

We are eating here as a 'parents night out' meal when we are staying at AKL in July. We are planning on wearing slacks (I don't do dresses) and nice shirts since it is going to be a 'date' for us.

We just returned and had planned to eat at BOMA one night (actually it was a last minute addition since we were staying at the AKL and didn't want to go all the way to EPCOT for the German resturant). We got to BOMA for our 7:40 PS and it was CRAZY. We were dressed in our park clothes, which were a little different for us than what others wear. DH had on a collored shirt and jean shorts with tennies. Dsis and I both had on a short dresses with shorts underneath. Dniece had a matching sunsuit outfit on. As we were watching the horror of BOMA (don't get me wrong I LOVE BOMA but there were a LOT of people there) the nice people at Jiko saw us looking at thier menu. Like the poster above, they asked our family if we were interested in eating there. They could get us in immediately. We didn't feel under dressed. After being seated, I did worry about how Dniece would handle such a long meal. We figured if she didn't do well, one of us would just take her up to the room and get their meal "to go". She's five and she did fine. There were lots of families eating at the resturant with children younger then her. The waiter was great and even brought her a phone call from Goofy. The food was WONDERFUL and the expirience was great. Probably one of our best food expiriences on the trip.
