Planned to book today but site down so called. 577$ per person….last year paid 200$ per person for same dates :(

hoping southwest has better prices!!!!

Assuming the initial prices hold until I get the chance to talk to DH (he's working right now, as am I.....so I won't book anything until later today at best), fares aren't as bad as I expected.

We have enough points accumulated to cover one fare, one way, at the tier that includes a checked bag.

The other three fares (one one way, the other round trip) at the middle tier (with the checked bag) the plus the Even More Space upgrade for both of us, both ways would leave us $617.50 out of pocket. Considering that includes upgraded seating, I didn't think that was too shabby at all. It does have us in Orlando for 9 nights instead of 7 (meaning we would need two extra days accomodations outside of our timeshare week) but we could worry about that at a later date. Flight times are such that we could get away without a park and fly hotel, if desired, which would offset that.

Westjet would be almost $1200 CDN with baggage and seat selection factored in, and no upgraded seating. We had thought this might be the year that we reverted back to flying from Toronto, but not at that price difference!

I would much rather pay for the higher fare tier ($15 extra versus the no-bags tier) to get a checked bag on Jetblue versus $12.50 for EBCI on SW, where even after paying the fee you still don't get a pre-selected seat (just an earlier boarding position).

I, personally, don't find the checked bag add-on that big of an issue. Would I like it for free? Of course (but we all know the cost of baggage, where offered for "free", is just buried in the price anyway). Jetblue's baggage costs seem quite reasonable when compared against some of the other airlines. And I almost had a stroke when I checked Westjet's fares, and saw that they charge $30 per person, each way, just to select a seat!

Ran into that exact same price when shopping for mid February flights.

If the exchange rate is anything like it was this past weekend when I was down in the States at the time I need to book.... I will be flying from home.

I paid $129.87CDN to take $100US out of the bank before leaving home so I would have money for a light lunch and to tip the hotel valet. My $234US a night hotel bill has just hit my CC at $309CDN a night. -- ugh.

Right now, before 3% bank charges/CC charges added, $577US is $735CDN -- I will actually save money flying from home as it appears right now. **Just priced my dates on AC - $457 all in return, direct/non stop**

Longing for those not so long ago days where our dollar was at par! (or even a bit better then par at times) ;)

Booked our April/May trip just a few moments ago. $302 pp round trip from Buffalo (including baggage....we booked the Blue Plus fare that includes one checked bag each way). I had enough True Blue points to get one way free for one of us, so with the upgrades to Even More Space seats in both directions, our total cost was only $618. I am happy with that! :)

Flights to FLL were 470USD. Cheaper to fly a legacy carrier. Going out is not bad at 123, but coming home is 347. Cheaper to fly direct on Air Canada from Toronto which I much prefer.

Thanks to some helpful people on here I booked with google fights and got the exact flights I wanted for half the price!!

The montreal rates for feb/march break are still terrible. They are between 750-1000 per person to go direct. :(

A bit off-topic....

Jetblue changed our departing flight by 35 mins for our Nov trip. No big deal really, but it gives me an out if I want to cancel with no fees and leaving it as a credit on the account for future use. I thought about this since the dollar is so dismal and for whatever reason, I'm not excited about this trip at all :confused3 Not sure why, but I could take it or leave it. However, looking at the prices now, who knows what the prices may turn out to be when we're ready to book again. I'm sure it will be much higher than the $1200+ that I got for the five of us to fly direct out of Syracuse. I looked at changing it to March break but at $5100USD (has to be a mistake, right?) it's not going to happen.

$5100 for three? $1700 each? OMG!

Whoops, I can't read!!

But yes, even at $5100 for 5, I will still OMG to that! :scared1:

I was looking at your beloved Vistana resort last night....I'm all over the map on where to stay which is why I think I'm not really looking forward to going. Once all the room only discounts come out, I'm hoping to make a final decision.

I can understand people being upset about having to pay more but how can you think that just because last year you paid X, you will get the same thing this year. One year ago the dollar was alot better and almost everything was cheaper. Everything has gone up in price. The steak you buy at the store costs alot more, the veggies you buy cost more. What makes you think that the flights wouldn't be. That is not Jetblue's fault. That is life.

I bet a decision on your accommodations will be just what the doctor ordered :thumbsup2 . Keep me posted if the Vistana is where you decide to stay!

I don't think anyone is surprised to see an increase in fare prices (for exactly the reason you listed above). What's difficult to swallow is the SIZE of the increase. While I expect vacation costs to rise right along with all other of life's expenses, I have a hard time seeing them double, triple or even more than quadruple between trips.

We got great rates with priceline, on delta flights from halifax this fall $315 round trip per person. Westjet is actually flying us down and Delta back.

Omg, Jet blue charges for luggage now? I just check our resources for November and we must have booked before the change so we have the "old" inclusions.

I was wondering that too! It must be a new change. I guess that and the exchange rate are pluses for booking early this year. The downside though is that they added earlier flights (and direct!) for the day that we're going and wanted $67 each to change flights, same day! Cue awkward no thanks.
