Jetblue disappointed today

Jetblue introduced a tiered fare structure earlier this summer. They now have three separate fare classes, the lowest which has no checked bag included, the middle tier which has one checked bag included, and the highest tier that includes two checked bags. The pending change was well advertised in advance.....I am sure they announced in the New Year.

We booked for April 2016 with Jetblue out of Buffalo, and still came out ahead with the new luggage costs and the exchange factored in. We paid $152 each way, for a total of $304 return (non-stop both directions). Ideal flight times. Seat selection and snacks still included. Seats we can actually be comfortable in (and upgrades to even more space/even more speed for a very reasonable $40 pp each way).

Westjet, Air Canada and Air Transat all still charge for luggage, don't they?

I don't believe WestJet charges for luggage (although I may be behind on that too!). But JetBlue or an American airline is much cheaper than a Canadian one anyway if you're close to the border.

Yes WestJet does, but if you have their world elite mastercard, then one checked bag for up to eight people flying with you is free. The annual fee is $99, right now for signing up they give you $250 westjet dollars, and once a year a companion can fly for $99 plus taxes anywhere in North America. This can be any flight and any tier, so we picked one up just for that and the free bags, pays for itself even if you don't use it for anything else.

Ahh that would be why we don't pay for luggage. My husband flys for work so he has that card.

I bank with RBC, and had heard about the Westjet MC. We already have a MC though (one that doesn't charge foreign exchange fees) so I definitely wouldn't be interested in another mastercard that charges an annual fee.

If someone happens to have that credit card anyway, though, it would definitely make flying westjet more affordable. I cannot imagine paying $25-$30 pp, each way, for a checked bag :crazy2: .
