Jetblue boarding?

Does anyone know how Jetblue boards their planes? We have flown Jetblue before but I cant remember how they do it. TIA

The last time we flew with them, they boarded the back rows first and worked toward the front (which makes the most sense). But I believe it was also once with them that they boarded the front row passengers first and worked back (this does not work so well as people are clogging the aisle).

Row 15 through the back of the plane gets to board first.

Although they do pre-boarding for families with small children and others who need additional assistance.

I've seen them do it both ways. I also saw them once empty the plane from both the front and the rear of the plane. I wish all airlines did this. It was by far the fastest we ever got off a plane!

I didn't realize JetBlue's aircrafts had a rear door. (other than emergency)

JetBlue uses an airbus & an embraer. Most of the time they board rows 15-25But I have been on their embraers before where it was not a full flight and since its a small aircraft anyway they just let all rows board.

I would think using 2 exits would depend where your destination is since they would need 2 jetways to disembark from. I've been on other planes in the caribbean where they roll up the 2 stairways to the plane to disembark from front & back. (but not on JetBlue)

One time, when arriving into MCO on JB, my friend and I were sitting about 6 rows from the rear of the plane. We were directed to the rear exit. There was a portable stairway (the old fashioned kind!!) which we walked down, then across the short area of tarmac and then up some stairs into the terminal gate area. We actually beat the vast majority of passengers using the jetway!!! Loved being able to exit like that.

Don't you feel like a movie star or VIP coming down those stairways? I feel like I should do a princess wave or something:laughing:

huh... never encountered that at BOS. I'll have to ask my husband how often he sees that happen. (He is an air traffic controller up in the tower there)

Oh dear...you must have seen me doing the 'wave'!! I did feel like a VIP, so gave a little flip of the hand as I walked down...you know, to all my admiring fans!!! Too funny.

Me either. It happened to me maybe once or twice. I always hope for it though. There was a rear door right by the lavatory and the galley all the way in the back of the plane.

They do often will board front and back at the same time when in MCO to come home if the weather is nice. This also has happened to us. They will announce 15 and higher line up at the exit door and that you must be able to use the stairs. At the same time, they announce 15 and lower to line up at the gateway to board. Keep in mind their idea of pre-boarding with families are families traveling for children UNDER TWO.

I've had the experience in Long Beach, CA, which does not have jetways, that they will roll stairs to both the front and the back doors of the plane for boarding and disembarking. Very fast and efficient!

Thanks everyone. I guess we will have to see when we get there. It sounds like it varies from time to time. I have never seen them use a back door. We have always been on an airbus but this time both legs are on the embraer. Are there any significant differences between the two besides the two and two seating? What about the overhead bins? We are in row 14. I do know the size limitations for the embraer is a little smaller. We are leaving from BOS to MCO.

I just changed our rows to row 3&4. I didnt realize there were only extra leg room seats in row 12 on the embraer.

Just spoke with my husband who is an air traffic controller at Logan. He said there are very rarely are their times that planes have passengers disembark through the roll up stairs. Although they often see passengers disembark from both exits on the smaller commuter planes that have the pull down stairs. He said that Logan has very few of those roll up staircases.

I am guessing maybe it depends on how busy the gates are. Maybe if the gates are all full and an incoming plane does not have a gate they will use the roll up stairs.?:confused3

That makes sense. It happened to me twice when landing at HPN (White Plains, NY - regional airport). It's a much smaller airport though it does have jetways for most departures/arrivals. I'm guessing the tiny terminal was probably way over-crowded so they allowed some folks to disembark through the rear.
