JetBlue and Peanut/Tree Nut Allergy

We'll be heading to WDW this summer and are looking at flights now. We've always preferred to fly SW because of their policies (not serving peanuts, pre-boarding to wipe seats down, etc).

It looks like JetBlue will be a better flight schedule for us but I'm hesitant to fly with them because of DS's allergy.

Has anyone with a pn/tn allergy flown JetBlue comfortably? I found some older threads in a search, but all posts a year old or more.

Nut Allergies


JetBlue does not serve peanuts and has no immediate plans to serve peanuts; however, we cannot guarantee that our aircraft or snacks will be 100% free of peanuts, peanut material or peanut products.

"Tree nuts" such as almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, etc. may be served on JetBlue flights. For a full list of our onboard snacks & beverages, Click Here.

There is a possibility that some food items served come from facilities that also manufacture products that may contain peanuts, peanut material or peanut products.

We cannot prevent other customers from bringing their own peanuts or peanut products onboard and consuming these items inflight. However, we ask that you inform the head Inflight crewmember upon boarding the aircraft of your severe nut allergy. Upon request, an Inflight crewmember will create a buffer zone one row in front and one row behind the allergic person. The Inflight crewmember will ask customers seated in the buffer zone to refrain from consuming any nut containing products they have brought onboard and will not serve any nut containing products to these rows.

JetBlue will offer a full refund to customers for whom these conditions make it impossible to travel.
 
to OP we have been on South West flights where they have said no peanuts or peanut butter but have seen people who have brought on these for snacks eat them and were not stopped. these were Make A Wish trips plus one of our boys reacted while in line at Disney for a ride. we could not see any peanut butter but we ended up at ER because of reaction
 
I swear I recall at least one snack pack they offered that had nuts in it. Like a trail mix sort of thing. But like pp said as guests can bring food on the plane anything can be there. We actually always travel with nuts because while my kids are severely allergic to a ton of foods these are one thing they can have.

I would imagine they would have to allow the preboarding to wipe down seats if you asked them though.
 

Yes. SW does serve peanuts as a general rule. But, their policy is if there is a declared allergy on board they do not serve them for any leg of the flight that the passenger is on. It doesn't prevent possible contact from the previous flights but it helps (along with the pre-boarding to wipe seats).

I do think we're going JetBlue this year though ;)

My DD has PN/TN allergies. We were always worried about flying with her and drove from Massachusetts to WDW many times. We have flown JetBlue on our last two trips and I wiped down her seat each time and they made an announcement to the rows around us that they had a passenger with a severe peanut allergy on board and asked them to refrain from eating peanut products on the plane. The flight attendant said something along the lines of- if you would like to eat your Snickers bar, please see one of us and we will find you a safe place to eat it. They didn't ask the entire plane to refrain from eating peanut product, but they did not offer nuts as snacks. Some of the onboard snacks were safe, some were not. Overall I was happy with our experiences on JetBlue. The flight attendant did ask us if we had our Epipens with us before the plane took off.
 
I think you will find Jetblue's customer service to be above and beyond on this. They actually offer snacks that are safe for those with nut allergies, as the previous poster said not all of their snacks are, but there are a few choices, including chocolate chip cookies.

If the flight is not full,I have also seen them move the party with an allergy or others so that the rows around those with the allergy are empty. Really, they will do everything that they can to accommodate you, that's just what Jetblue does.

I was also thrilled to see the nut free chocolate chip cookies!!! We have flown JetBlue several times with my daughter who is ANA to nuts and have not had an issue.

Thank you all for your input. It is helping to put my mind at ease about flying with JetBlue. I'm psyched they have the Skeeter cookies! I don't worry about them having a safe snack for DS as we always pack him something anyway. It's just comforting to know that they take it seriously.

You might want to check this out, this is the food that you can buy on Jetblue...not the free snacks.

Look at the part that says "Eat Up Snacks" and then click on the tabs to see the different boxes people can buy. Might give you an idea of the types of foods that will be around you from JetBlue anyway. I see a trail mix on there as well, which was already mentioned.

Really Jetblue is very friendly to anyone who needs assistance, including those with service animals, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, those of larger size, those with allergies. Bottom line is they will do everything they can to keep you safe and keep the other passengers happy as well, at least everything they can do that is reasonable.

Jetblue never over sells their flights and usually always has at least a few empty seats in their even more leg room seats, which they could use for this purpose.

I've been on JetBlue flights that definitely had every single seat full.

Really? I haven't had a single one that has, not saying it never happens, just that in my experience, it is rare, but I suppose it's possible that it depends on the route as well.

Yup. Dh was almost forced off a plane because although he had a seat, the people in his row took up their seats as well as his and he could not fit in it. Thankfully, someone flying solo saw our issue and instead of me flying with two small children, a double stroller and several suitcases to newark airport at midnight ( delayed flight) he offered his seat and took the next flight. So never say never

Well, they did sell the right number of seats, like I said it's rare that a plane will be completely full though. In that particular case, I would think the right thing to do is to ask the people who took up his seat to take the next flight and this is coming from a larger person. Luckily someone else stepped in and offered a solution, but it would be what I would expect in a case like that.

Really, I have yet to experience a flight where every single seat was full, but I guess I should have said that Jetblue does no intentionally oversell their planes like Southwest and so many others do.
