Jesus wasn't resurrected

Well, I wouldn't be a Christian if Jesus didn't raise from the dead.

I wouldn't worship someone b/c he was a good teacher. There were plenty of good teachers in history but I don't worship them.

I worship Jesus because he was the only teacher that was also God.

I obviously don't believe that Cameron's claims have any weight at all, but I think it's dangerous for christians to think "Well, if he's right, it won't make any difference" because really the fact that Jesus was God and raised from the dead makes all the difference.

I understand how you feel. I do love his teachings. What do you think you would be if you found out he did not rise from the dead?

If Jesus didn't raise from the dead and wasn't God, I'd be Jewish.

Well said. :thumbsup2

Jesus claimed to be God & said He would rise from the grave. If He didn't, He'd be a liar & not worth listening to.

Ever the showman...Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins

Why in the heck would he have the coffins? Even if no one but him believes they really belong to Jesus and family, why wouldn't they be in the possession of an athropologist/archaeologist or museum?

That is where the great debate begins the wording & interpretations.

Note to Self: This this is Saturday Night & a new poster posted this thread.

Without the resurrection there is no Christianity.

James Cameron may make good movies but I don't consider him an authority on much of anything else.

Like the saying goes. Any press is good press.

It is a pretty big deal, though. At least in the Catholic faith. It's even in THE prayer of what we believe... "...he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day, he rose again, if fufillment of the scriptures." And Easter is THE holiest of holy days.

But everyone is entitled to believe what they want. This is America. If James Cameron wanted to make a movie saying Jesus was really Satan, he could. The believers will still believe. The non-believers still won't.

I really don't think anybody will care all that much. But I've been wrong before.

I'm with you. He's entitled to believe that Jesus didn't raise from the dead and is entitled to do whatever research he feels supports his belief. Years before Da Vinci, I read a book which proposed the same theory called Holy Blood, Holy Grail and it's sequel The Messianic Legacy. I did my best to read them with an open mind, and I still did not find the arguments compelling. I'll see Cameron's movie, because I like his movies. And the Sunday after I see it, I'll be at Mass.

So lets take bets on how many pages this one will go on for. 25, 50, 100?;)

Like someone said before, the believers will keep on believing, and the nonbelievers keep on nonbelieving.

A quote of C.S. Lewis comes to mind, but I offended someone with it so I will refrain from posting it. Something along the lies of what Jimmie said.

Cameron is apparently enthralled with some boilerplate biblical archaeology. The article itself mentions that the ossuaries have been around for a while, and consensus of scholarly opinion is that this is not what Cameron says it is. I remember some discussion about this in the periodical Bibilical Archaeology Review some years ago. I'm too lazy to search tonight, but that might be a place to start looking to keep this in perspective. Meanwhile, I think I'll pray tonight and preach the resurrected Chrsit tomorrow.

Ummmm, I think that I'll put my faith in the Scriptures before I would ever put my faith in some guys movie script.

Hollywood religion... Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, etc....:rotfl2:

I will just say that the names of the involved people were very common in those days. Its probably no big stretch to think that you might find grave sites with that grouping of names on it
Just to throw another fact in ,Muslis believe Jesus is the Messiah but they don't believe he was crucified.

Exactly. The birth of Jesus was miraculous, but it saved no one. The life of Jesus was inspiring, but it saved no one. The death of Jesus, though tragic, saved no one. THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS SAVES ANYONE WHO BELIEVES. The resurrection's the whole thing. The whole story. The whole point. IF Jesus didn't rise from the grave himself, then He can do nothing for His followers and the whole New Testament is a lie.

If James Cameron had GENUINE evidence, he'd be writing for a scientific or historical journal -- not making a movie for the entertainment industry.
