Jesus loves you over MK

I assumed he was flying over the Reedy Creek Improvement District when he did his skywriting. I suspect Disney could legislate or make some sort of rule/law that would prevent flying over the Reedy Creek Improvement District in such a way as to prevent the skywriting.

I don't know the exact rules, but I think it would be to gain control over what goes on thousands of feet above the ground (above the 3,000 feet no-fly zone anyway). If they can, apparently they don't care since this isn't anything new and Disney hasn't done anything. If they could and did do something, the skywriter could go a few miles off property and the message would be just as clear from the ground. This is something you can see from many parts of Central Florida, not just WDW.

I find it offensive, but he's in his legal right to do it, so we just sit back and laugh at his stupidity. BillSears had a great comment on the previous page that seems to have been ignored....would people be so quick to accept this if it said "There is no God"? How about some Koran quotes..."The only true faith in God's sight is Islam" or "Make war against the unbelievers"? I assume all the bible thumpers would still approve of the right to free speech for those examples as well?

None of the above would bother me. Write whatever you want. It blows away in a matter of seconds. Sometimes, he doesn't even finish a word and the letters are gone. I just don't see why this bothers everyone so much. I'm a lot more bothered by many of the commercials on TV. The guy isn't hurting anyone. It doesn't seem to bother most of the people locally. I never hear anyone complaining about him.

OMG, that plane is still there? That was there on my last Disney trip in 2004, what a turnoff. At least they fly away....

Apples & oranges...

Telling people they are loved is a positive statement, even if you don't believe this person actually exists, or you don't believe they really love you.

jimmie, you requested specific information from me and I answered you (post #239)......in case you are interested in answering.

Actually, these two.

Missionaryism is a large part of your religion. We get it. You don't seem to get the fact that it's offensive to some. So, who's views are more important? Yours, or the people you offend? That's what it boils down to. You seem to feel, because you are more or less commanded to do so by God, that yours is. And, if Christianity were the law of the land, you would be right. But it isn't, so the "saving souls" excuse doesn't fly with me. If you get into people's faces with your religious views, you should be prepared to take all the flack some will throw back to you. And while it may not be against the law to preach your religious convictions, sometimes backing off is the polite thing to do.

You're correct. I don't see how "Jesus loves you" can be offensive. Annoying, maybe.

I am prepared to take flack for that.

If it will make you feel better, I don't typically bring up the subject of religion with strangers. Our pastor teaches that we need to develop relationships with people first, & then if we feel led, we should share our faith. However, the Bible teaches us that we should always be ready to give an account of our faith.

Exactly. If someone knocks on my door, is polite, and offers me a pamphlet to read at my leisure, they are going to get a better response from me than the person that sticks their shoe in my doorway and "orders" me to read or discuss something I don't particularly feel like doing at the moment. This skywriting guy, in a way, is sort of ordering me to read his sign and that's what I resent, even though he has every right to do it.

Not sure what you want me to say here? Refer to my last paragraph above. :confused3

Bingo. We agree on something. I am more than happy to discuss my personal relationship with God.....when I'm asked to.

Assuming someone wants to discuss their personal faith without asking is rude, imho. This extends to any unsolicited proclaimations. If someone wants to "find" God they know where to go to find him/her. High pressure sales pitches are annoying, be they for a vacation time share or for God.

Sometimes, people need a reminder, & sometimes they need guidance. When I get sick, I go to the doctor. By the same token, when I need spiritual advice, I go to my pastor or another mature Christian.

IMO, skywriter is nowhere near high pressure.

Yeah, you go to someone that is qualified to help you. Rather different than Joe Blow on the street coming up to me to "witness" unsolicited.

Most people don't need any reminders, imho. If people really want spiritual guidance they know how to ask for it. By sending a "reminder" we are back to you giving something that was unsolicited, and perhaps unwanted.

When Mr. Skywriter writes his "message" more or less every single day, I consider that high pressure.

Any Christian is qualified to share their experiences. All Christians should "study to be approved" & thus be able to explain why they believe. The latter takes time.

Does anyone else have the godspeaks.com billboards where you are? Some of them crack me up because of the way they are worded. It's God with a bit of snark. :lmao:

Did you see my previous post about my abusive "Christian" father? I'm not exactly trusting that just because someone claims to be a Christian and puts on a good act actually means they are one. Besides, you completely ignored the unsolicited part. (Not that I'm at all shocked.) I'm not looking for any spiritual guidance, so anyone taking it upon themselves to give me some is being a unnecessary nuisance.

That's how I feel too. I love talking religion with people, when everyone wants to discuss it.

I view unsolicited advice-from any perspective as intrusive and annoying. If I had my druthers, Skywriter wouldn't be allowed over WDW no matter WHAT he was writing. I don't care if he's selling God or selling cars-when I'm at WDW I don't want to see it. The only thing that should be in the sky above that Castle is fireworks...and Tinkerbell.

Apart from the religious question and actions of this Skywriter guy, I think it's interesting that WDW is becoming, in some ways, a holy shrine and a vacation a sacred pilgrimage.

And God Forbid, you take the Mouse's name in vain on these boards.

Thall shall never speak an ill word about the Mouse on the DIS boards! Otherwise it will bring stoning and points.

The Mouse is everlasting love.
