Jesus Christ Superstar LIVE - FULL video online. Link in 1st post

I thought it was fantastic!! Judas was definitely the star. The only one I thought was kind of lacking was John Legend, but I kinda thought that might be the case from the beginning. So, actually he ended up doing better then I thought. And I agree with some pps who have said once you’ve seen Ted Neely, everyone is else is just not the same. However, I thought this might be the best Judas I’ve ever seen.

I've heard of the musical before, but had never seen it. I had heard a couple of the songs before. I say that just to ask if anyone else had a problem understanding the lyrics (if you didn't know the songs)? I've had similar problems at concerts (where the music all but drowns out the lyrics), but since I knew the songs (at the concert), it wasn't quite as bad.

It's probably just my bad ears.

I did like the staging, lighting, and camera work (except the spinning camera when Judas was in front of the priests).

I missed the first 20 minutes! ARGH! I had hoped they might air an encore later in the evening, but nope! So, I have a little over 2 hours of it recorded, but not the entire thing.

The musical is actually 2 hours 20 minutes long. So, probably your cable TV provider didn't schedule it to record properly. :badpc: At least you got the "important" part of the show. ;) If they do show an encore performance, and you need to record it, add on another 20 minutes to the recording time.

My husband had some difficulty understanding some of the lyrics, too. I didn’t notice it as much because I know all the words.

No, I didn't set it ahead of time. I started recording at 8:20pm or so.

I was at my SIL's house last night, and nobody was watching TV, so I turned it on. Unfortunately, we had to leave around 90 minutes in. But it is on my DVR, so I will watch it in full later this week.
My parents had the original album, so I grew up listening to that. I've seen the 73 movie many times, but I prefer the original recording. In 94, I saw the touring production, so I got to see Ted Neely as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas, so that was pretty cool.
As for what I did see last night, Judas was the star, but I expected no less. This story is more his, than anybody else. John Legend, for the most part, just didn't get the job done for me.
But, I look forward to watching it full later.

I really liked it but hate to admit this I kept thinking John Legend should have had a beard and mustache lol. I thought Sara Bareilles was good, she has a beautiful presence and voice but Yvonne Elliman did such an incredible emotional performance in the original movie that I kept comparing and Sara just couldn't get there for me, but still good. Even though I really love her it was hard to compete against Yvonne's incredibly deep heartfelt singing of those beautiful songs. But I really enjoyed it. The musicians were incredible also.

Outstanding. Brought me right back to 1971 when I saw it when it was a rock opera on Broadway. You get a small degree of authenticity when Andrew LLoyd Webber himself has a part in producing of the show.

I must admit though that I had Wikipedia up with the playlist so I knew which song was coming next.

If you don't know Sara Bareilles, here she is singing She Used To Be Mine, one of my favourite songs:

One of my daughters is completely obsessed with her musical Waitress. Would have loved to have seen it with Sara and Keala Settle in the cast.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to check out JCS tonight if we don't all crash by nine. Loooong day for Easter and didn't get all of the company out the door until about ten.

Holy cow I thought that was just incredible. Really fantastically done.
I actually thought John Legand was great - he wasn't going for the ethereal "other worldly" Jesus - the focus was on the human side of Jesus. Like someone upthread said - he was edgy, which I think was exactly what he was going for. And Judas, whoah. And I even found myself feeling bad for Puntius Pilate.
Also, HUGE credit to the production crew and designers. That was an awesomely staged and called show.
I was just really moved by the whole production.

I forgot it was on but had it set to record so I'll watch it later today. I'm a child of the 70s so know all the music since some of the bigger songs were played on the radio and our high school put on the play so I saw it there.

I've never been able to sit thru one of these live shows and have wondered afterwards why they didn't just tape it, do some editing and clean it up before broadcasting it. BUT, this was an exception. Really enjoyed it and I'd encourage anyone who hasn't seen it to try to find it on-demand before it goes away. (Hopefully, NBC will get the message and rebroadcast at least once, even if its in the middle of the night so it can be DVR'ed)

I did watch. I am not a fan at all of ALW and his shows (except for some odd reason, Joseph). And as I thought, didn't care a lot for this either. But I thought the production itself was fantastic, and the cast was amazing as well (John Legend was a little lacking). I loved the styling and the costumes. Wow, there were a ton of commercials though.

I'm so glad I DVR's this. Now I can fast forward through all the commercials and break whenever I need. I'm 1/2 way through and really enjoying it

Didn't see it last night but thank goodness for Youtube. Amazing!!!!
