Jesus Christ Superstar LIVE - FULL video online. Link in 1st post

Really well done, must have been incredible to have been in that theatre tonight.

Hard to believe Alice just turned 70!

I googled after he appeared and was surprised to learn he is ONLY 70. I thought he was at least 75 or so.

Someone had better be writing a musical for the actor playing Judas to star in.

I thought they handled Judas' death in a very family-friendly way. :thumbsup2 A child wouldn't know what happened, just that he went away. Meanwhile, adults get the ladder falling. :thumbsup2

I don't know the Bible story.....did Judas hang himself?

Was it performed in a theater? Looked like a giant warehouse or movie soundstage that had bleachers added.

I enjoyed it but for me the film remains the definitive version. I just love Yvonne Elliman's voice.

And it's hard to beat Ted Neeley's interpretation as Jesus. :thumbsup2 He has that "otherworldly-ness" that I associate with Jesus. It's interesting, Jesus actually doesn't have many songs or singing. He's mostly silently onstage through most of it. Yet, one always feels his commanding presence.

I kind of felt that was lacking with John Legend. :duck: For me, the disparity was evident every time Judas was onstage. He just took over the show. :cheer2: While, YES, the show is told through the point of view of Judas, so he is big, Jesus is still supposed to be the strongest presence & focal point, IMO. I felt that balance wasn't quite there. :duck:

Although, I did enjoy the show. And I think this generation has a new JC Superstar for them, that they can watch over and over. :thumbsup2 They haven't watched the movie a bazillion times like some of us. :rolleyes1

Yes. I've seen a production where he actually puts rope around his neck and hangs himself onstage. Another where they show his silhouette doing it. In the movie, I think they also show the hanging. So I had been wondering how they would make it family-friendly for TV audiences, who might not know what was coming.

I thought John Legend had great presence. But there is no disputing that Judas stole the show!

Unfortunately I wasn’t home when this was being broadcast. Does anyone know if they have any plans to show it again?

One of my friends on Facebook posted "you know you're a great actor when you can play a character who kills two beloved individuals (he also played Aaron Burr in Hamilton) and still have people love and root for you."

Very true!

I actually felt sorry for his Judas. :sad1: Usually, I'm like, "NOW, you get what you've done and regret it. You're still going to Hell. Damn you!"

I think, in the past, NBC has re-aired the other "Live" musicals a second time.

That was well worth watching, even with all the commercials. Better than I expected.

According to info elsewhere, it was performed at the Marcy Avenue Armory in Brooklyn.
