Did anyone see this? It's been on a few times, but DH and caught some of it last night.

I made him turn it off, because it bothered me so much.

I saw this. Wow, just wow. I thought it was a little creepy but then, I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Only a little creepy?! :goodvibes It scares me to think that 25% of the population feels that way?! I'm sure that number is off--that's just those who describe themselves as evangelicals. Hopefully it depicted an extreme portion only.

Well......I don't want to offend anyone on the boards. :)

But yeah, it's a little scary. Especially when you think about all of the violence that is connected to religious beliefs. Not that they promoted violence or anything. It just seems to me that any kind of tunnel vision can be dangerous.

And now I'm probably gonna get flamed.

So I will just say that if Jesus Camp works for some, more power to them - but my kids won't be going there anytime soon. And thank God and our servicemen/women that we all have the freedom to make that choice. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 I understand. It took me all day to have the guts to post about it. I don't want to offend anyone either. It was just the "facts" coming out of some of their mouths were so alien to me.

I am happy for them to believe what they want to as long as it doesn't effect me adversely.

I have this in my Q for blockbuster, just kinda wanted to see what it was....can anybody give me a little more info? Now I'm wondering if I want to see it or not

It's basically about evangelical christains and their (or at least some of their) beliefs and ways of raising their children. Like I said before, I only watched a little bit, so I can't give a great description...

It's a documentary about kids who go to an Evangelical religious camp and what life is like at the camp.

It's an eye opener. I'm sure as with any documentary you're seeing it through the filmaker's eye and perspective. Definately worth a view, regardless of what your religious beliefs may be. I watched it. My kids watched some of it. Very insightful.

It is frightening... but I think it's important. :teacher:

If you can get past the initial revulsion of listening to the leader of the services and just hear what she's saying, it's even more frightening.

She talks about the idea that her type of "education" is necessary because there are other religions that indoctrinate their youth with the same fear/passion/craziness/whatever across the globe.

While I find her methods and message disturbing, she is right about that - what horrifies some of us and what many call "brainwashing" is completely acceptable to others, including some who would preach for death of those who believe differently.

When I really think about that, it makes my blood run cold - and then it makes me sad for the world. :sad1:

ETA: I HIGHLY recommend getting it on DVD and watching it again with the commentary - that really helped me think about what I was seeing!

When my son's class was studying religions last year, they watched this film. He came home pretty shaken. I assured him he would never attend. He was 12 then. The teacher, a former Jehovah's Witness, caught some flak but all in all I felt it was an appropriate age and the kids really talked a lot about it. Anything that can stimulate major political or religious conversation in 12yo'ds is a good thing.

Is this the show that was on 48 hours? I remember seeing something about a Jesus Bootcamp but I really didn't get to watch. I think we had it on, but something else was going on so I only remember bit and pieces. I know the show that was on had something to do with training kids for mission trips. There was a group that went to Africa and a group that went to Indiana I think.

I saw this and felt that the kid with the rat tail was quite a smart guy and felt a bit bad at the path he was going down....I guess bad is the wrong word, more like upset at the close mindedness. He has some real gifts for speaking and leadership, I hope he uses them for the good of everyone.

This has come up on this board in the past with pretty much the same reaction. I think these people, specifically, not all Christians, are delusional and disturbed. That's a mind-set that can sometimes lead to violence.

Funny, this is the second thread in as many days I have seen calling Christians "creepy".

This tolerance and diversity stuff we keep hearing about sure looks funny when put into practice........

But, since this is the game being played, let's look at some other vid pics........comments welcome.......

Sorry if you were offended. :)

I am a Christian. I did not call all Christians creepy. I don't think all Christians are creepy. IMHO I found Jesus Camp to be a little creepy.

I would also think it was creepy to see a mouse run across my floor yet I do not think it's creepy for me to spend a nice chuck of change to travel to Florida once a year and visit a giant mouse. :rotfl:

Just because my creepiness radar doesn't jive with yours doesn't make me intolerant by any means.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia. (Not accurate, I know.) It has me intrigued and genuinely curious.

Just watched your video clips. Hard to give an accurate opinion since they were much shorter than the Jesus Camp movie but yep, I see the potential for creepiness there too.

Creepy is an equal opportunity adjective in my vocabulary.
