Jersey Week Flights

I’m feeling pretty irritated with the costs of Jersey week as well. I’m paying for my family (there is 7 of them) and they want to fly out from Jersey on a direct flight. Right now the cheapest I can find is 450 round trip, which is insane.

I’m confused by Frontier because they say they are booking up to 11/14 but there is no availability out of Trenton or Philly when I look. I wish Spirit would load past the 11/3.

MCO to philly or Trenton on 11/11 is $266 one way on frontier. I’m just waiting for spirit and SW at this point.

Thanks. We are leaving 11/3, and JFK is still pretty expensive. Plus my family won’t drive there, they are in south jersey. So I’m limited to Philly, Trenton or Atlantic City. I’m going to wait to see what Spirit round trip is before I book. I hope they update the schedule soon.

Well, I was feeling antsy and ended up booking Spirit there (from Philly) and Frontier back (to Philly). It’s costing me about 420/per person including bags and seat selection. Maybe if I waited, I would have found something cheaper but I just wanted it booked.

I’m also getting antsy. I have my flights going to MCO. I just need to get home! I’m going to wait until May 31 when SW releases their rates and book that day no matter what. Unless spirit releases before then. We are also in SJ (20 minutes from PHL, 45 minutes from AC and Trenton) but we’re willing to do Baltimore or Newark. JFK is a last resort.

BTW...It appears some are already going up for JB...>At least for my flights, they've gone from 306 to 332 p/p. And this is only in 2 days...:sad2:

I travel out of PHL a lot for work, and I can tell you that since the US/AA merger and Southwest cutting back flights, costs have become crazy. I think it's pretty bad for a lot of the northeast, but American has crushed a lot of price competition at PHL.

It looks like for the fall your best bet is to travel Mon-Wed if possible, as prices can skyrocket on Thurs-Sun flights. A lot of this also has to do with the newer low pricing tiers like 'Basic Economy' vs 'Main Cabin' offered by the older carriers (AA/United etc) to compete with Southwest and Jet Blue which actually drives up the standard 'coach' cost which is no longer the lowest tier. A Main Cabin ticket may cost $180 one-way with a Basic Economy costing $120, and Southwest will match the $180 instead of the very few bare-bones $120 tickets AA offers.

For my late October WDW out of Philly tip I was able to score a 1st class one-way ticket for $270 on AA when the main cabin is up to $180. Just watch when booking those 'basic economy' tiers as most times they don't even allow carry ons ... only a personal item

Frontier flights tend to start out very high and then they have sporadic sales and it often will go down much closer to the date. But that Sat-Mon is going to remain relatively high regardless. We flew around that time last year out of PHL and I wish I could remember what the rates were but I wanted to do Jersey week to save my work days and have my son not miss school but it was just way too expensive. Flew down on the Sunday instead and it was around $60RT.

It's quite a drive, but last year the flights out of Long Island with Frontier were pretty darn cheap that week. I almost went with it, but decided I didn't want the hassle of the drive.

I just booked our return flights from Tampa to Phl. Direct on American Airlines. $163 pp one way. I booked our flights To MCO on JetBlue. We are leaving on Monday November 5th from BWI and coming back to philly on Saturday November 10th from Tampa. The aa flights are economy so we got to pick seats and can have a carry on. I saw flights as low as $124 for basic economy on AA.

$60???? WOW!!! I am playing with flights for another week and that would be amazing.

On average we pay $50-100 RT from PHL or TTN to MCO. We don't go peak times though. I'm going Mother's Day weekend and with a Friday night flight got it for $107RT. I was thrilled to be able to get it out of TTN with decent flight times. We did join the Discount Den, but there have been times the flights are just as cheap without.

In the past we always went peak times and excited to get under $250 RT. We are thinking of getting annual passes since DD is going for a track event in Oct and then we are going in Nov. If we get an AP, then maybe a summer trip would be great, esp at that price. I am going to look into it and would also prefer TTN.

Enjoy your upcoming trip!

Are making me crazy!! We already bought our flights to MCO through SW for $156 one way on 11/2.

All of the major airlines (AA, Delta, United) are crazy expensive for the return home on 11/11. Over $280+. SW and Spirit haven't released their fares yet. Frontier just released their fares today and $266 one way!

We may never get home at this rate. I really don't want to pay $400+ for a RD ticket to Orlando!

Anyone have any experience during Jersey Week? Do they go down a bit as the date gets closer?

I'm 20 minutes from Philly airport but willing to fly into Baltimore, Newark and JFK or LGA if I HAVE to.

It may not help you for that Sunday, as they tend to be more expensive, especially being Veterans Day weekend, but we flew SW home to BWI late Sat. nt last year(11/11/17) for a pretty good rate of $138pp. We were going to fly Fri. nt originally for around $96, but since we had only headed down late Mon. nt.(11/6/17) due to DD's school schedule(got really good price - used points, but I believe it was around $88pp) we decided to extend it a nt if we could swing it. First had booked flight earlier in evening with one stop, but no getting off the plane for $126, but the later nonstop flight dropped from $160-170 down to $138, so took it to get more Disney time and nonstop - nothing out of Philly was well priced or late times. Mind you, these were booked in Oct since we did not have definite plans till Nov - we have found the best prices for this and previous trips, even going at busy times like this, and Christmas week, in the few months before.

We are also 20 min from Philly, but they have cut back nonstops so much, and BWI is a SW hub, so more choices, and usually cheaper. Not a bad drive if you can do off traffic hours, and easy airport to navigate. Someone could drop you, or we used the Parking Spot, which was reasonable and had a coupon on their site, and shuttled you right from your car and back.

While flight prices seem higher this year, I would not panic and wait for SW. Also keep checking the price of your flight down, so if it drops you can get a credit to use toward flight back. Also, consider extra costs on other airlines if you haven't added those in, for luggage and seat assignments.

Flying out of LGA on JetBlue, I can get dates and times that work really well for me and my 2 kids for a little over $800 round trip.

I started searching, and it looks like I can get Frontier flights that sort of work for about $600, give or take once the baggage situation is sorted. I have never tried Frontier and those flights go in and out of Islip, which I've never gone to, either. I'm a bit of a nervous flier when my husband isn't with me.

I'm sort of wondering if the price difference justifies a strange carrier and a strange airport. The Southwest prices aren't going to work - I need Friday 11/2 or early Saturday 11/3, which are already announced, and those are more than the Jet Blue and not non-stop.

Any advice for those of you who have BTDT?

If there's any chance you can get away with carry on bags only, one thing we will do in a worst case scenario is book a cheap flight that has a layover in the city you want to be in - Philly in your case. For example, I needed to fly from Buffalo to Philadelphia, but the nonstop flights were very pricey. So, I booked a United flight from Buffalo to Hartford, CT with a layover in Philly, and just stayed in Philly. It only was doable because I had carry-on bags and my return trip was booked separately as a one-way ticket, so not on the same itinerary. Good luck!
Just for the general information of people reading this thread in the future: this is called hidden city ticketing, and the airline 'frown' on it. To the point that, if you have miles on the airline, they may get revoked. And more than just booking each way separately, booking on the same airline both ways risks your return tickets.

YMMV, but I've done this only a few times, different airlines, and my return ticket was not at risk being booked separately. I think the airlines have bigger fish to fry. I've also heard it can threaten your airline status, but I would suspect this is for someone who does this frequently and the airline chooses to flag them, if that's a thing. For someone in dire straits that does this once or twice ever, its not a big concern.

Heading down 11/3-11/11. Knew airfare from NY/NJ would be up for that week, but the current prices are insane! Used a combo of miles and LGA to make it to tolerable. Wow.

Just checked and it seems that the fares have gone even higher..sigh
