Jersey girls don't pump gas

Wow...are you single? lol

lol, yes I am!

Hi neighbor! I live in the same township. I love not having to pump my own gas.
Gas prices in this township aren't any higher than in neighboring towns where you have to pump your own.

Hi neighbor!!! What a small world. It generally isn't that much higher at all. My dad lives out east on the island (Riverhead township) and its more expensive out by him than it is here.

Have you grown up in this town? If so, I bet you know my family!

I did grow up here. When I got married, I moved to New Jersey and lived there for a little over 7 years. We moved to Illinios for 1 year and then moved back to LI. A few years ago we moved back to the town and house I grew up in. I'd venture to say I'm a little older than you :rolleyes1.

I've lived in NJ my whole life and while it's nice not having to get out of the car when it's cold, I sometimes find it's much faster to pump gas myself than having to wait for an attendant that is working on a few cars at a time. Ever stop on the parkway or turnpike for gas at rush hour? You're lucky if you can get out of the station in 20 minutes.

I wonder how someone that can't pump their own gas manages to travel. I go on road trips all the time and maybe it's because I'm not looking, but I don't see many full service stations in other states.

You probably are, but thats ok! I have a big family. We all went to Northport High School. My aunts, uncles, and dad were there from 1968-1983. Then my brother and I returned. Apparently my family left quite the legacy there...I swear some of my teachers almost fainted when they read my last name in class on the first day. Apparently I'm a much better student than they were!

I was going to post the same thing you did. :lmao:

I wouldn't mind having to pump my own gas though. I would just wear gloves or something.

Actually it may be better. If you ever go to Wawa to get gas everyone always leaves their cars while the gas is being pumped to go shop so you end up having to wait for them to leave so you can pull in! Maybe if they pumped their own gas that wouldn't happen anymore.

No one I know uses a debit card for gas. .

How would you know that? You never leave your car!:rotfl:

I'm having this vision........

Vivian Leigh as Jersey Scarlett O'hara...pulls into a gas station..."twiddle-dee-dee...ah nevah pump mah gas/ ah dont leave mah car. i am a delicate feemale. That's whay ah married...the ONLY reason ah married...to have a man pump mah gas.

:lmao:

I don't get the whole "weak woman" trend in this thread....:confused3
both men and women in NJ have their gas pumped for them by the attendant.... it has nothing to do with being weaker or dependant....

My coworkers and I were talking about the election last month. Our current governor lost. I am from New Jersey.

I am a Democrat, but admitted that I didn't vote for him... When I told my two male coworkers that "he lost my vote the day he proposed I should pump my own gasoline." My two male coworkers thought I was nuts.

In New Jersey, there is a sign on every gas pump that states it is unlawful for patrons to pump their own gas. (only New Jersey and Oregon have this law) New Jersey has had consistantly amongst the lowest prices for gas in the country despite full service only. The governor proposed that I would save $.06/gallon or $.60 per week pumping my own . (yeah, right) This in a state where property taxes average 6000k for a modest detached home.

If I want to save $.60 , I'll clip coupons. Gas is nasty, stinky stuff. He proposed that I get out of my car, leaving my children in their car seats, possibly dressed in heels, stocking and a dress in 10 degree weather. Yeah , right.

I am not the only New Jersyean who feels this way. No other issue received such a pubic outcry as this. Woman's groups, and groups for the elderly and disabled came out against Corzine's proposal to change to self service at gas stations.

If you are from New Jersey or Oregon, do you like the law?

If you are not from New Jersey or Oregon, do you wish you had this law or do you think that it's just nuts to not want to pump your own gas?

As glad that I am to hear that you did not vote for Corzine. If THAT is the reason you didnt vote for him you are outragously INSANE!! The 1 reason you stated about the 6000k taxes wouldve been a better reason. Or the sickenly corrupt politicians in NJ that he promised to clean up and never did. Your words are the reason I can not stand NJ voters. Please start paying more attention in the future and vote on REAL issues not moronic ones like this. :surfweb:

I'm not from Northport, although it was one of my old stomping grounds. Ask your relatives if they remember Henry Afrika's :woohoo:.

Read the OP-she cant imagine pumping gas because she might be waering heels.

Personally-I never wear heels except for dress up & plan accordingly when i need to add gas to my tank.I do it when I'm in my workout clothes or after an event.

Women in 48 states pump their own gas-the jersey girls on this thread sound simply horrified to ever having to do so. Sounds like the Women's Movement took a huge leap backwards in new jersey.
:sad2:

PSA!!

If you duck into the car when its cold while the gas is pumping, be sure when you get out again to touch the side of the car or other metal object (NOT near the gas nozzle!) to disburse the static electricity you may have built up by sliding in and out of your car. You really don't want the gas nozzle to be the first thing you *spark* when you get out of the car. Fumes are flammable!

This is especially important for anyone who wears sweaters or coats that may easily build up static (down-filled coats, nylon shells, etc).

I should add that I apologize to any woman in NJ who watched that video and now doesn't want ANYTHING to do with pumping gas ever again. Things like that don't happen often, but they DO happen. Just take the proper precautions.

Yeah, I almost said somethign about that in my post, but then thought it was common sense and didn't need to be said.

It's because of how the OP was worded as well as some of her friends backing her up. The very thread title says Jersey girls don't pump gas. She said she doesn't want to because she might wear heels. Another person said that their husband does it when they go out of state (and that he does everything else around the house too. Apparently that is why she is married). The OP even said women's groups fought this. So while you are right that both sexes have gas pumped for them, the presentation in this thread is that Jersey women are simply too delicate to pump gas.

LOL well I am a jersey girl... and love full service!
I know my father appreciated it when he was older and ill ... and I am glad my MIL doesn't have to get out and pump her own either....
so maybe the Op's specific arguments seem a bit much... LOL... but I do love the full service and thought corzine was an idiot to propose a change....
Corzine proposed the change at the beginning of his term and was not using this as part of his platform for re-election....

I think that most of this thread was supposed to be taken with a grain of salt, as it is taken as a joke around here, and i'm sure in New Jersey as well. I bet that women who staunchly believe they should never have to pump gas and only get married to have their trash taken out are very far and few between.

I can see how this might not have come across as more of a joke to people who haven't heard of this before.

I just think it's funny that the incumbent lost b/c people don't want to pump their own gas.

Believe me, the incumbent didn't lose due to pumping gas issues. I didn't even know he was trying to change it, LOL! He lost because the state is close to bankruptcy due to his decisions in the last 4 years.

LOL these jersey pumping threads get folks almost as riled up as reusing mugs!!

People are taking this WAY to seriously. We don't pump gas because it's against the law to pump gas in the state. It has nothing to do with the inability to due it.
Yes, the OP was making tongue in cheek references, but quite a few here on the old Dis don't get that.

:thumbsup2
he brought it up at the beginning of his term... it was one of the first things he brought up... it died quickly....

Well, I live in Oregon, but I've lived in many, many states. I know how to pump gas, but it's a pain in the neck. Much easier to pull up, have it pumped for me and then I drive off. Of course I can pump my own, but I prefer not to.

I guess I'll be the first to admit this........ If I pull into a station where you can pump your own, or pay more to have it pumped, well, I'm paying more. Pumping gas is like dusting, I only do it when forced to.
