Jersey Girl Heading West Updated 7/26 Final Day and Final Thoughts

I'm late, but I'm here.

A couple of years ago I bought into DVC and will be using points to stay at the DL hotel.

Sorry, this just reminded me that in today's mail, I got a DVC mailing about the Villas at the Californian. Not that I'm trying to encourage anything. ;)

Then I thought maybe I would go back to the Candy Cane Inn, that’s where I stayed in 2005, with no complaints.

::yes:: Dr. Belle and I stayed there for 3 lovely nights in 1997. :thumbsup2

To sum up, I am staying Friday night at the Marriot near the convention center and renting a car starting Saturday.

OK, got it.

Okay, I have to confess... "Marriott" just plain sounds a lot safer than "Candy Cane Inn." :rotfl:

I know NOTHING of this hotel BUT it sounds like a place that might be rented by the hour:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Nope, I've stayed there too. It's nice! :lmao:And it's right across the street from Disneyland. Which is weird when you're used to WDW, but there you are.

A wonderful group of Dis'ser, we have a thread on the community board, you couldn't ask for a nicer, more generous group. I think we will all agree how much better are lives are for meeting each other.

Sniff. You're making me teary. But you're right, and we love new friends, so come on by!

Hope you're feeling better, sweetie.

HI, how are you and DH and the boys. You know our pic from the rafting is on my desk at work so I see you all the time:lmao:

I would love a ride on SM with you!

I hope you and your foot is doing well, Mo.

Yes the foot is starting to feel better and an update to this TR is coming shortly, thanks for hanging in there...

Sorry for ignoring this, had some foot surgery and trying to heal in time for my trip and just haven't been up to posting. So if you are still here, thanks and here's an update...

So why do I need a car?

First of all In and Out burgers. :lovestruc

OMG, I love these and at the same time I am very grateful they are not on the East Coast. I would definitely be wearing a much larger size clothing that I currently do;). My last trip out west, I ate there 3 times over 6 days.

I also want to be able to hit the Character Warehouse, I was rather successful there last time and I want to be able to go to a grocery store for breakfast items and bottled water.

But the main reason I want a car this trip is I am driving up to Simi Valley for the day on Saturday to see Reagan’s Presidential Library. I am really looking forward to this and did you know he has the old Air Force One parked there. Yep they built a hanger right at the library.

http://www.reaganlibrary.com/airforceone/

I am a bit of a political/history geek, and I have never been to a Presidential library so I am pretty psyched about this. (though I do live near Grover Cleveland's birthplace (it's just house, nothing really to see))

I figure Saturday would be a good day since from what I understand the parks are more crowded due to locals and I would rather save my DL days for weekdays.

So the plan for Saturday is to pick up the car, get some breakfast at one of the places on Harbor (still trying to figure out which place) and head North to see the Gipper. Per Google it is an hour and half without traffic, hoping on a Saturday morning the traffic won’t be too bad. It doesn't open until 10am and besides, I don’t think I need to be there for rope drop.;)

On the way back I have it all mapped out to stop at the Character Warehouse, In and Out and Food 4 less as they are all near each other. (Did the Food 4 less move, I swore it was on the other side of where the Character Warehouse is when I was there in 2005?)

From there I will check into DLH and settle in. Not sure if I will be exhausted or not, but I ended up getting a 6 day hopper since it was only $5 difference between a 5 day and 6. This way if I feel up to it I can wander over for a ride or 2 and maybe the fireworks. ( I figure the adrenaline of checking in and such may give me a little boost of energy)

Next up - Walking in Walt’s footsteps

Here are my 2 getting a bath. Namath is in front, I have had him since he was a puppy:lovestruc. A year later I adopted Rocky, from a pug rescue organization:lovestruc

If you're wanting a nice sit-down place, Mo, I'd suggest Mimi's Cafe. It's right across the parking lot from HoJo's. I love their breakfast menu, and they have a nice tea assortment. ;)

Just a few more weeks now! :woohoo:

I totally agree - on both points. ;)

Sounds like you've got a great day planned and what do you mean you won't need to get to the library for rope drop :faint: :rotfl:

:rotfl2:

In and Out and White Castle might be the only burger joints we don't have here - Sonic, Whattaburger, Wendy's, McDs, BK, Checkers, Krystal - we've got 'em all! :crazy2:

:rotfl: Sorry, I always get tickled by "Gipper" references!

Does such a condition exist in LA???

Hope you're feeling better Mo!

Does such a condition exist in LA???

:sad2:

Hey Mo! I thought of you yesterday afternoon. They opened a new Character Connection right across the street from In-N-Out! Off the 5 freeway and Valley View. :lmao:

Tracy, Hardee's is the same as Carl's Jr. so we do have the Western Bacon Cheeseburger on this side of the country as well. It's the same restaurant, but with a different name. :thumbsup2 No need to stay in Cali all the time. You can come visit me and see some SNOW sometime!

True, but we don't have Hardee's up here, either, so she can't come to the Northeast. ;)

I see your priorities are in order......fast food restaurant:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks T2, and I plan on lots of pics.

Glad to see you are back at it Mo. Your plan for the library day sounds fun.

I'm enjoying your trip report so far. :goodvibes

I saw your title since I'm a Jersey girl too and was toying with the idea of doing a Disneyland trip in July.

I was going to combine it with a trip to Orange County Fair to see a concert, but I'm not totally convinced of it yet. I've been to CA a couple of times but never managed to get to DL.

Looking forward to hearing about your adventures!
