JellyRolls?

The downside of jellyrolls to me is cover charges are typically charged to pay for the entertainment. Any other bar you go to, the cover charge pays for the Band, singer, comedian whatever it is. But here they charge you 12 dollars to get in then expect you tip the entertainment. (I do mean entertainment. Servers and bartenders are excluded from my statement)

To answer the Flame befor it comes. You are correct if I don't like it I shouldn't go there so I don't go. Yes you're welcome I am leaving room for other people.

I see your point, but you don't have to tip the singers.....we just find it fun to run up and give them our napkin request with a buck. We have actually asked for requests without the money too, and they got played.

We also know that we are planning on doing that, so budget accordingly.

DW and I have been going for years and always have a great time!! The entertainers are pros. Every time I go it makes me wish I had learned to play piano. I think my DW has a crush on one of the pianists.

Its not for a cheap night out, but its tons of fun! I went after my wedding at the Boardwalk with all our younger guests (and my parents!) and everyone seemed to have a great time! My husband, his friend, his cousin, and myself shut the place down (we got there at 8:30!) and had the best time! One of my girl friends actually threw up in the middle of the floor and they were actually really really nice about it!

I can't say enough good things about that place!

We have been going home to the Boardwalk since 2000 and have yet to visit JellyRolls.

May do it this trip in April and I'm looking for the good and the bad.

thanks,

I've been going to WDW since 2000, have stayed at BWV & BCV a few times and still also haven't made it yet to Jellyrolls. Mostly because who I go with usually can't go for one reason or another. Keep saying I want to go thu!

It's been smoke free for several years now.

This is good to know too as I can't stand smoke let alone being in a room filled with it (one reason I do not like going to local casinos... for shows and such). I also remember walking by a few years ago looking in and smelling way too much smoke for my tastes.

We have also owned since 2000 and hit Jellyrolls for the first time last summer. We had our22 year old DS and a friend of his with us. He was asking if it was going to be a bunch of old people singing and drinking. I think they just came along to humor us.:goodvibes Well, who ended up closing the bar? Yep, DS. And, who went back again 2 nights later? Yep, DS again! Turns out it is a lot of fun for all ages! Can't wait to go back this summer!:mic:

Already making our list of songs. I have to say we always have a good time but it can depend on the crowd. The best thing I can say about JellyRolls is every time we have gone at least half the people there have been there before.

We have also been going to WDW for years but had never gone to Jellyrolls. Now that DH and I started going without the kids or with the "adult" kids - we gave it a try and absolutely loved it.

i think we need to try JR again.....
last time, the vibe was just not our cup of tea (or "mug of beer" or "shot of grey goose";)):
way too much vomiting, falling/passing out, physical/sexual connections (while spouse(s) simmered nearby), drunken arguements/aggression, too just-turned-legal wasted (tho the crowd was older:confused3), etc.

the piano players seemed talented (tipping went into the $50+ range per song with additional non-monetary/physical offerings thrown in(and thankfully turned down)), but it was hard to tell with all else that was going on.

quite a few people left, including ourselves, as the atmosphere (and stench) just got worse as the night went on.

from what others have said however, it looks like we just picked a bad night....time to try again :)

When did you go? If this had been my first experience, I doubt I would have gone back unless I kept reading that this was not the norm.

We're not fans of the general piano bar concept (including the dueling variety although the one @ O'Briens in citiwalk can be semi interesting if a convention is in house) either in clubs or on cruiseships, mostly because of the hokey song offerings and rather snoozy vibe.

Have never bothered trying Jellyrolls since it's always been 'dead' when stopping by during our visits. Sounds like Jellyrolls went to other end of spectrum your visit.:sad2: Yet, with all the high marks here might have to give it a go next stay @ BWV in Oct.

This past October, we had a family trip of 9 to celebrate our 30th anniversary. One of our plans was to go to both the Dance Hall and Jelly Rolls. We never made it to JR after our experience at the Dance Hall. Our kids ( ages 21-25) were on the dance floor and we had a table towards the back of the building. Started out a fun time. About an half hour after we were there, nice younger guy at the next table starts talking to my husband pointing out this "group" of clearly drunk guys pushing and bumping other guys around the bar and dance floor. They watch for a few minutes, thinking there has to be some kind of security that will get them Next thing my brother says to my husband, is watch out, they are headed right for our kids. It was my nephew with his four girl cousins dancing. My nephew never saw them coming, but my niece did and tried to push her brother out of the way of this guy swinging at him. The guy swings, misses and grabs my niece as he starts to fall flat on his face, pulling her down and knocking over two other people next to him. Drinks went flying from those around them making others slip and fall. It was a mess. My husband and brother rush over grab the guy with the help of another nice non involved person and take him out of the building. No security came. None. Could have been a brawl. Luckily his buddies decided to just take off. Only security they had was a girl checking ID at the door. She called security and they then showed up. We talked to the " manager" he told us they don't really have security inside, only on call if they need them. He just shrugged it off saying that well no one was hurt and if we wanted he would call police to have him arrested.

I understand things happen when you go to places were there is drinking, we were just all shocked that they had no security inside to watch for any potential problems. So, while I'm sure this isn't everyone's experience, this was our first and will be our only time there. Too bad

I've seen plenty of security at JellyRolls. They are constantly watching to make sure you don't stay on stage too long. They also have to constantly scan the audience making sure no one is recording the show.

I have been to JR 20-30 times over last 15 years and I have never seen the place like it was described by one poster. Always have security visible mainly to protect the piano players, but they will also immiediatly engage with anyone getting out of hand. Cast member nights are Thursday I believe and thats seems to be one of the busier nights but still not rowdy.

In my opinion the more people the better as the singing gets louder and the jokes more frequent with the added material the crowd brings to play. Like any performer the piano players feed on the energy of the crowd.

about 5 years ago. it was our first experience there (despite staying at the BWI/BWVs 1-2x a year since they opened).

just to note: we go to lots of comedy clubs, mystery shows, and various interactive venues that serve alcohol. we do drink (usually not to the point of passing out tho;)), and normally really enjoy the entire atmosphere of these sort of venues: chatting with strangers, interacting with performers, laughing until it hurts :) the sort of "energy" that night was not what i would consider "good" energy - the performances of the overly drunk and obnoxious overshadowed the talented players....:sad2:

i'm glad that you have not experienced what we have (i can't go into full detail on a family board, but security was minimal, and obviously not going to get involved unless it went into a full-fledged bar brawl). like said, we will probably try JRs again :).

garnet1240: that is unfortunate about ADH. we have been there fairly frequently, and if anything found it too quiet :faint: as much as we enjoy WDW (and especially the BW area:cloud9:), we've noticed that security often does not get involved until after the fact. hopefully you will do as we decided, and give it another try :)
