Jedi Training Help!

:confused3

They also are not going to pick "big kids" meaning kids that look older than about 10 or so. They lean heavily towards the 5-7 ages IMO. I don't think they want anyone clobbering Darth ;)

OH NO!!! My 12 year old son has talked about nothing but this since he found out about our Christmas trip. Has ANYONE had an older child picked for Jedi training?

My DS got picked when he had just turned 12 (We were there celebrating his birthday). Our family is petite so he can pass for younger than his age, but I wouldn't say that he looked any younger than 10. There were a few other kids that looked around the same age as him who also got picked. And yes, he did have a sign, and was the 3rd child selected.:) Obviously you don't need to have a sign to be picked because if no one has a sign they are still going to pick kids, but it sure does help if you do have one. As hound said, it gives them something to refer to such as "the boy in the blue shirt with the sign" as in my DS's case. And I too have never seen anyone with a sign who didn't get picked. It sure does give you greater odds.:)

Okay, so I go to tell DH the exciting tips I learned to get my nephew on stage. He says, "you aren't making any sign". I said "oh yes I am if that's how we get him up there." And he says, "well you can stand by yourself then." HUH, what kind of response is that? I guess my nephew that flew all the way from MO and I will just stand up at the rope by ourselves.

I think I'll remember that when he says, "Honey, blah blah blah blah............" :rolleyes1

Don't worry about it. I stood with the kids (they held their own sign) and DH sat up at one of the terrace tables. You probably don't want to all stand at the rope anyway. BTW, in Feb, my DH didn't want to listen to me either, and DS (was a very sensitive 5 year old at the time) left in tears after not being picked. This time DH helped with the signs, even going so far as to hold one up at his table that said "BOY IN THE YELLOW SHIRT" in reference to our son!

I agree. Just make the sign.....fold it up.....don't mention it......hand it to nephew when Master Jedi walks in. It's just a prop.

Regarding "standing". My DS 8 stood at the rope between other kids. I/we stood behind them. The only "parents" who took the coveted rope space were parents of VERY young ones. Most parents logically (& good naturedly) stepped back a couple steps as new prospective Jedi's showed up for the show. (as it should be. :))

& come to think of it.....DW stood off to the side so she could take pics of DS....she wasn't in the standing area either. So one kid on the rope & you alone standing a step or two behind him (with DH standing elsewhere) is logical.

Good luck. :thumbsup2

(We'll be there on Sun or Mon....I'll let you know how it goes for us....Alec wants a to put the saber to Vader this time. :cool1:

I would never take up coveted "rope" space for all the little kiddo's excited to become the next Jedi.

And speaking of pictures, where are the best spots to take pictures, right down near the rope or up further at the tables?

I'm thinking of writing on his sign, "I came all the way from Missouri to fight Darth". Sound stupid? May be a little too long, I'll keep working on it.

Sending good vibes to Alec that he gets his chance, but tell him to leave some Darth for us on Thursday. :goodvibes

Don't worry about your husband doubting you.

My husband did too. The whole trip. Just make your sign, and when he gets picked, secretly laugh to yourself. Then when come back tell us all about it. I just told myself, "When in doubt go with the DIS."

BTW DD7 fought Darth Maul.

Well we're back and I have an update. We went to the 10:30 training academy on Friday, found great seats right at the rail and waited. At about 10:15 they announced that the 10:30 show was canceled but Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and the Jedi's had agreed to do a meet and greet. (Which was really cool.) After sitting there for 30 minutes already, it was a bit frustrating to hear that it was canceled and even more frustrating when in talking to a cast member that works in the sound/light booth it was due to a scheduling conflict, the sound man wasn't there. We asked when the next show was and they said 11:35, after having already gotten great seats and not wanting to lose them we decided just to wait for the next show. Plus, it took a while for my nephew to get through the meet and greet anyway.

But...it was all worth it when he was the second kid picked on the right side. :cool1: He was the only one down there with a sign. He did his training on the ground and then was split into the group that got to fight Darth Maul, which was what he wanted because of the double sided light saber. All in all I think it was definitely a highlight of his trip.

And I have to admit that the Jedi up on the stage was really funny! Made it interesting for the adults. But I wonder how these kids are brave enough to go up there, Darth Vader was HUGE and Darth Maul was really scary looking. Brave little kids for sure.

Thanks for all the tips guys, it was your help that got him picked.
