Has anyone been to MGM lately and if so are they still doing the Jedi Training Academy? If so where and when??? My 3 year old is obsessed w/all things Star Wars and would love this opportunity!
Thanks!
Kari
We were recently there for the final 20007 SWW. Until now, The Jedi Training was only held during SWW. However it will be a permanent thing soon! Here's a quote from wdwinfo.com:
Jedi Training Academy Coming Soon
One of the most popular venues of MGM's "Star Wars Weekends" is about to become a permanent fixture.
Plans are in the works for the construction of a stage in front of the Star Tours attraction where daily performances of the "Jedi Training Academy" will take place. (This is already part of Disneyland's Year of a Million Dreams.)
During this activity, 'Jedi Masters' choose children to be trained in the use of light sabers. Once these junior Luke Skywalkers become proficient, they'll be challeged by Storm Troopers and Darth Vader.
Other than the projected opening of 'this Fall' no specific dates have been announced.
Can you please post the info on where to sign up or for more info? SharkyGoddess' DS12 is anxious to go and I would like to do all I can so he can. I would like to find out how the academy is worked and I have found very little (other than what was on wdwinfo.com).
How are the kids selected?
What, if anything, is done in advance?
I am sure I'll have more questions later...I always do.
It's great it looks like becoming a more permanent thing. DD7 (and DH & I!) would really like to go to this. Fingers crossed (or should we be using the Force?) that this will stay!
The Jedi Training Academy is a permanent show at Disneyland already.
Both of my DS were picked in March, they were 7 & 3 years old.
To get picked we arrived 30min before the show began to get a seat in the front row. So we waited and waited. Then the jedi master, or trainer came out and just hand picked about 25 kids. The kids get a jedi robe and a plastic lightsaber. Then they are taught a sequence of battle moves. Then Darth Vader and Darth Maul appeared (I don't think DM is at MGM?). And each of the kids gets a turn to battle one of the villians.
We were not picked for the first show & my kids wanted to wait again, so we did. I mentioned to the CM that we had already sat through an entire show and she said there was nothing she could do. She suggested we make a sign, so we did. It said "Gray & Max Skywalker", and we got picked! Both of them.
I thought I heard from someone that they are taking down the AT-AT and ewok village to make room for this - does anyone know if this is true or not? I will be so upset if this is true!
they've filed paperwork to build a stage in the ewok village area. the orlando sentinel made some really odd conclusions in my opinion. i highly doubt the ATAT will be affected.
