Jedi Training Academy sign-up

We have never done this, but want to on our trip that begins in one week (woot woot!). I understand that you need to sign up right after rope drop, but do you need park passes in hand when you sign up? I am hoping that I can head for Toy Story Midway Mania fast passes, while my husband takes the kids to sign up for Jedi Training Academy. Does that sound like it will work?

No park tickets needed. You just need the children who want to participate. You can get the TSM fastpasses while your husband is in line. That is pretty much what everyone does.

Yes, you can do this. I went and got FPs a week ago, while my wife and the kids went to Jedi sign up. You just make sure the kids are with you.

hope you don't mind me adding a quesion to your original post

We are going this november and will have a 4 year old with us, I think we have seen this show but have never had a child old enough to participate or thought about it to be honest.
I think it would be something he would enjoy as he loves play fighting etc.

-SO can i ask WHERE you have to go to sign up, is it straight after rope drop? do they give you a time to come back later in the day? any other information about it?
would love to fins out a bit more for him!!

This is what we did as well - I took the boys to sign up for Jedi, and DH took our littlest (2) to get FPs for TSM. We were just a few minutes late for rope drop and went immediately to the Star Wars area - and my guys ended up getting the next-to-last spot of the day! Completely worth it, though. Watching DS5 fight Darth Vader was priceless - Disney magic at its best! The photos from the PhotoPass people were outstanding, as well. This left me free to videotape.

It's right next to Star Tours. When you first come in the park waiting for rope drop, everyone will be headed straight to TSM. You head to the left. It was a nice leisurely stroll and we wound up 3rd in line. He just has to answer a few questions - will you fall off the stage, do you promise to fight the Dark Side, etc - to makes sure he can follow directions.
