Just giving our experience. Maybe the odds are not slim but they are not a given either.
We were not able to complete our meal and meet all the characters. We paid as soon as we were seated and ordered beverages so we were not waiting on staff. We were waiting on characters. So while you find you could do it, we did not. That said, we also do not find it necessary. We have gotten signed up for JTA numerous times by arriving at HS before opening. We ended up getting there later than we did with an ADR and we didn't spend that money and we still got the front of the line and our pick of sign up times. Even on SWW.

That's too bad it didn't work out for you. It's worked for us 5 times since our first trip in 2011.

we had an 8:10 am ADR for H&V, it was great. Server helped out by telling us where to go to sign up and said no worries on signing up and returning. we were 1st ppl in line and picked the 2nd show set to finish breakfast. Took coffees to go and had a blast, on our non SWW day mind you. Will do again. Breakfast was great and kids liked the characters there too ty for the tip, worked great !

That is a good tip that hadn't been mentioned, leaving to sign up and returning to finish eating. Only one parent and all participating children can run over to sign up. It is close to the restaurant.

yep, went out the back door and the CM holding you there will point out the building to walk to with the tall silver scaffolding sign/tower. You can see it from H&V. Best $ spent, low stress is BEST!!

My mom stayed at the table and watched the "running of the parents" she thought it was hilarious. I also wanna mention it can seem dangerous and scary for little ones some ppl get cra cra!! Think , this was seen by us, a man running full speed holding a 8 yr old.... Worth a breakfast thats fun too!
