Jeans to dinner?

It's very simple.

For those wishing to enjoy a "classical cruise" experience - book your tickets on the QE2 or QM. Wear swallow tails & hoop skirts to breakfast if you like.

For those wanting a family friendly relaxed cruise experience, where "dressing for dinner" is not the main focus; there's DCL.
If you feel that you wish to be commanded to dress up, on DCL, there's palo.

see -- something for everyone!

Agree.

Lets all give thanks that we live in America and get to have an opinion. Sometimes it takes a debate about dress code on a cruise with Mickey Mouse to realize how lucky or spoiled we are.

My poshest, most expensive item of clothing I took on my cruise was my black jeans! I wore them to high tea at palo, like everything else, you get all extremes of jeans.

You can have a very dressed up experience on DCL, at least on the Magic. We link dining with friends who happen to have similar ideas about what they want to wear to dinner on the cruise. On the EB PC Repo all of the guys rented tuxes and the boys wore them as well (though bought on ebay for far less than the rentals). They wore them to all three formal nights and the ladies dressed to the nines. In fact, on the last formal night the DIS ladies who chose to do so participated in our own princess night and all wore tierras and jewels with our gowns. We enjoyed ourselves very much. The only reason I know what the people around us were wearing is because they were also DISers. I can tell you what many of the gowns looked like but I can't tell you of one person who was not dressed up to the extent that we were. Of course there were people who wore jeans and probably shorts but we did not notice them and they certainly did not deminish our enjoyment.

So, if you want to have an elegant experience on one or all of the formal nights dress up and enjoy yourselves. The servers will have tuxes on and no matter which dining room you are in the experience will be wonderful. If you want a casual experience, then do so and have fun with it.

If cruise lines have a published "dress code" then they need to enforce it. This would cut out all the bickering. I have dined in some very nice restaurants in NYC that have dress codes and they enforce their policy, quite simple if you want to eat here dress as published.

...and the OP inquired about wearing jeans...which are not prohibited by the DCL dress code, there fore there is nothing to enforce here.

I did not state DCL's policy...I gave MY OWN OPINION on wearing jeans.

When I posted about enforcing dress codes, my statement was in reference to the post about a cruisers experience on Carnival and how if the cruise industry wants to have a dress code they need to enforce it:thumbsup2

I am cruising on DCL, #11, in 3 weeks. I do not pay attention to who is wearing what. I'm too busy enjoying my tablemates, reading the menu, interacting with our servers. Jeans are acceptable. Enjoy your cruise planning!
