Jeans to dinner?

It would be nice if they did not::scared1: :scared1: Kids need to learn at a early age what is expected of them in social settings like nice restaurants.

Here come the flames

Rob

No flames from me, I agree, but DCL themselves said it is alright to wear jeans to dinner....personally I think a pair of dress shorts and polo shirt look better but DCL says no shorts in the dining rooms. DCL is setting the policy for this particular social setting and says jeans are OK for the dining room.

I have to agree that though I do not care for it, DCL has decided to permit jeans in the dining room so technically the answer is yes.

I have never seen were DCL has published that jean are acceptable attire for the dining rooms.

when we sailed on the Wonder on 11/2/08...
in WRITING, it stated that...
NO swimwear, flip flops, shorts, or tanks were permitted in the dining rooms.
I saw this in writing when I went to wavebands to try to get ressies for Palo. It was also in writing at the 'desk' where you check in at Palo. and I did see it once at Guest services, but only once and I went to GS probably about 6 times. Not sure about other cruises, but it was posted on ours. :confused3

We have only sailed the Magic...I still feel that jeans are not appropriate in nice restaurants.

Jeans used to be included in the list of requested items not to be worn in the dining rooms in the personal navigators each day. That word was dropped back in 2005. This is on the Magic.

On the Navigators from our 12/2004 cruise it states "Suggested dress Casual, no shorts or jeans please."

Since 2005 it has stated "Cruise Casual, shorts, tanktops or swimwear are not appropriate." This has been noted in the Voyage Personal Navigator that is given out on the first day that has an overview of the entire cruise since the format has change to the grid.

I have stopped stressing over what to wear for dinner since our last cruise. Before we sailed, I asked on this board about appropriate attire for my husband and was told that if he wore jeans or dress shorts, he would get looks and (and I quote) 'talked about on here as one of 'those' people.

After our first night at dinner, when one of our (female) table mates turned up in a pair of denim hot pants a la Daisy Duke, I quit worrying about it and we wore what we felt was acceptable and comfortable. Needless to say, a LOT of people were dressed much less formally than us.

I agree with other posters that it is nice if the kids 'dress' for dinner but, to be honest, my kids will be wearing what I consider to be appropriate (although not breaking any particular dress codes) and I will be perfectly happy.

I have to admit this is one of the things I have worried about most when planning our first cruise. I want to do what is appropriate but of course you get so many different answers based on opinions. I did see that it specifically lists no swimwear, shorts and tank tops. I did like the suggestion someone had for women to bring a black pair of pants that can be mixed and matched with different shirts. Although we are only doing a 3 day I am very concerned with luggage restrictions at the airport. We are 4/3 land and sea and my main concern is difference in temps requiring different outfits for days on land and sea. Although I absolutely despise the thought of doing laundry on vacation, since we are sailing in March, I think I will not have a choice this time because of limited space in luggage.

Just to be clear though jeans are ok in the restaurants for BREAKFAST and LUNCH right.

I thought I would give a different side to this debate.

Yes, you can wear jeans to the dining room.

Yes, you can even wear shorts to the dining room. I called DCL and asked them and they said that as long is it is not swimwear or family inappropriate items, then you would be OK. That was from Disney.

There will always be people who will judge others on how they look. There is nothing you can do about that. There will always people who give you their opinion and then try to coerce you into fitting their ideal. It's your choice if you want give them that much control over your life.

I teach my children not to judge others. Not everyone knows everyone else's situation and needs. Many people who can finally afford a cruise might not be able to afford new wardrobes for the entire family. That is OK, they have the right to enjoy their vacation also without being sent to some other dining area.

It is your vacation and you need to not stress out about what others think. If you want to wear what the suggested attire is, then go to the DCL website and they address it there.

I hope you have a great cruise.

Can teenagers wear jeans for dinner?

Yes, your teenagers can wear jeans to dinner.

We just got back from a DCL cruise, and there were lots of people in jeans.

Some people dressed their jeans up by wearing nice polo shirts, and some (very few) looked like they were replacing a transmission in their car all afternoon.

My suggestion: jeans for dinner will look great with a nice shirt and shoes. Hope this helps!!

We just got off of the Magic on Saturday and the dress was all over the board. On one evening, it went from a man at the table next to us with sweatpant shorts and a t-shirt to another nearby in a suit. We had our 11 & 7 yr old in siuts on formal night, dress shirts and khakis on semi-formal and switching from nice shorts and shirt to khakis and golf shirt the other nights. Don't sweat the attire, but I would suggest a jacket and tie for formal night.

Here is my ever so humble opinion:

For me, it is just odd, the idea of wearing jeans in such a tropical climate. When we go to the beach, it is just so much easier to wear bermuda shorts, capris, or workout shorts.

I personally, think it is sad to judge people by what they wear, within the realm of reason. If you are in a tux, and your tablemates are wearing a nice jacket, to judge that, to me is insane. But, if someone walks into the dining room wearing a wifebeater and swim trunks, to me, it is hard to overlook that. It is like when Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation shows up....you cannot help but look away and/or roll your eyes.

Now, again, personally, I do not have a problem with a nice pair of jeans. As long as they are not saggy, baggy or ripped or have holes in the rear end where I can see your kids boxers, I am okay with it. That said, I agree with a previosu poster that said it really is a good opportunity to maybe dress a little bit nicer than you normally would going out to dinner. Because, if you are anything like my family, it is always comfort first. But, this cruise gives us an opportunity to do things a little bit differently than we would at home. Just the way I look at it....

I use my cruises to dress up nice for dinner, so I don't wear jeans, at home I will though and wont' dress up, my mom begs me to dress up for christmas dinner or thanksgiving or holidays, but I don't only cruises I dress up for dinner
