Jaws replacement

You're right, I don't pay attention to attendance numbers. I just don't see it being feasibly to put it in. There are too many obstacles to dodge plus a high school about a half mile away.

I don't see any obstacles that can't be overcome. Cars run down a road right in front of the high school, so why couldn't some train electric train vehicles do the same? I don't see the ticket to ride the train as an issue. When you ride a train you give a ticket, so what would be the difference here? Your two park ticket would serve as your train ticket. If you want to upgrade to a two park, there will be a ticket booth to help you with that.

If Potter in the Studios can help attendance and boost the amount of revenue going into the parks, I'm all for it.

Some awesome/harrowing photos of the Jaws demolition at Orlando Sky Radio.

Note the sharks still in place... as if waiting for one more boat to pass, despite the lack of water.

The high school has nothing to do with it...I should know, its my alma mater, and I used to work at the Jaws area when I was a sophomore

Here's a reference photo about the backstage areas in question:

Transformers and Spiderman are too similar to have one in each park.

they may try to phase out Spider-man and replace it with Transformers once their original contract with Marvel runs out, now that Disney owns Marvel.

Their contract will never run out. It is an in perpetuity contract. As long as they stick to the details of the original contract, they can use the characters they already own the rights to for as long as they want. They won't be able to add any new characters though.

I can't see why Universal would give up those rights and let Disney use those characters.

“Our agreement with Marvel stands for as long as we follow the terms of our existing contract and for as long as we want there to be a Marvel Super Hero Island,” said Universal Studios Florida spokesman Tom Schroder.

I hope they make an official announcement soon since they are tearing up Jaws now!

I think at some point in the distant future, once all the updates that can be made have been made and the island needs a major overhaul, you might see something like Transformers go in there. But...by the time Marvel Super Hero Island needs a major redo, Transformers might not be popular any more.

I doubt anything will be announced before fall at the earliest...just a guess though.

I would think it is a fine line when to make an announcement. If you announce to early, especially if it's a Potter expansion, Potter fans might think that it is better to put off the trip this year and wait until the new stuff is in. If you wait to long to announce then you might miss out on people not having enough time to plan their trip and going elsewhere.

I would at least wait until summer is over so you don't miss out on any of that peak season to people putting off their trip to wait for the new stuff.

So I'm confused. With all of the speculation about the Potter expansion...wasn't there a huge press leak of the plans and layouts for a Gringott's ride and whatnot? Maybe I'm just behind, but the artwork and mapping for the ride seemed pretty legitimate.

That could have been artwork that was designed for the original section in IOA before things were finalized. There is other artwork out there from those original plans of Diagon Alley and Gringotts that you can see on the documentary. The press leak was one article. Nobody followed up on it, so it probably isn't legit.

Okay this is depressing. I'm still bummed out about King Kong & Back to the Future being gone. Not that I don't like new stuff too but come on, Jaws was classic..couldn't they just update it?

It wasn't earning its keep.

I personally think (and hope) that jaws will be turned into the HP expansion for a few reasons. First off if the numbers rose 30% in one park and only 6% in another meaning most of the people attending the parks are going to IOA then they are not going to want to expand it next to the current section likely just increasing attendance in the one park only. If they separate them it will break up the crowds more and instead of having them all in one park they would be dispersed between the two. And they aren't going to only want one park with high attendance. I think that US needs something big as there isn't much there to draw people. It is a very large section which I imagine they would need for HP. HP also is a massively huge franchise so they will want to put a lot of focus into that. I think the idea would be incredibly cool and love the train idea. I was never a huge fan of jaws, it was a classic yes but eventually things do need to be changed for something new. Especially when this is a movie franchise that a lot of the new generations haven't seen. I would love to see the Transformers ride come to Orlando but I would prefer the HP section at this location. I don't think they will replace Spiderman with it especially after the huge amount of money they are currently investing in Spiderman. Just my thoughts.

I just hope that whatever goes in its place has some sort of hidden shark...

Why do so many people say that everything needs to be replaced? Updated yes but why replaced?

In other words, let's replace the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain,... you get the idea. Disney keeps many of its classics year after year and no one seems to mind.

That aside, I also hope that a Harry Potter expansion is in the works. If it's anywhere as good as the IOA HP world then it's going to be amazing. Has anyone seen JK Rowling around lately?
