Wow. 35 years ago Jaws opened. Just now realized this after seeing it on the evening news. Just felt like starting a thread because it's the best movie and deserves a new thread on a regular basis. Share your thoughts the first time you saw the film and how it affected you.

It is one of my favorite movie, My kids enjoy the movie as well. DS5 loves it. He loves to run around the house with his Flounder the fish pretending to be jaws and sings the da, dum da dum da dum. Im only 35 and didnt get to see it at the movies I think I was 5 when I did see it.

Saw it at the movies when I was about 10 or 11. Didn't go in the water all summer.

I can't say it was my "favorite" movie of all time, but it's certainly one of those you will never forget.

My kids (teens) don't care for it. They think it's "hokey."

Brilliant movie. Did everyone know that Richard Dreyfuss did not take the movie that seriously when filming? Watched him discuss it and it was pretty funny when it became one of the best movies EVER.

Topics like this really make me feel old...

I was only 3 when this movie came out... but when i think of Jaws.. its like it was just a few years ago..

I didn't actually "see" the movie... but I "saw" it... I was in the back seat of the car at a drive in, supposed to be sleeping while my parents were watching a movie on another screen...

Scared the bejeezus out of me when "Bruce" popped his head out of the water for the first time.

I was 16 when it came out. We drove down to Annapolis to see it since none of the local theaters in Glen Burnie were showing it. It was fantastic!

I still have shivers when I look at the ocean. All because of Jaws.

I'm going to have to watch my DVD of it this week. I bet it still has an emotional impact on me.

We just watched Jaws last night. DS15 can pretty much quote the whole movie. He LOVES this movie. DD13 likes it, but she doesn't come close to DS enjoyment.

If DS is surfing TV channels and finds this on, he has to watch it. DH and I are really mean to DS. If he's not in the family room with us and we find it on, we'll turn it to that channel, then turn the volume way up. It usually only takes about a minute for the kid to hear the movie, and he comes running out to find out what channel it's on.

Holy cow, Jaws scared the crap out of me when I saw it at 9 years old. It was at a sleepover, who shows THAT for a girl's sleepover?:rotfl: Anyhow, I still don't go in the ocean over my ankles and thought for years that somehow my swimming pool could contain a massive great white shark. Looking back now, I can watch and enjoy it but man, when I was young it gave me nightmares. Right up there with The Exorcist!

Not my favorite movie either, but look at the impact it has made. Speaks well for the art of movie making.:)

Oh Good Grief where did my life go ? Really 35 years ??? I remember vividly going to see that movie with my now ex-husband, at the time we had a 1 y/o DD You could smoke in theaters way back then, when the Big White jumped out of the water and onto the screen I was sooo :scared1: the cigarette flew out of my hand and went :confused3 I knew I hadn't lit it yet but I can still put myself there like it was yesterday...Wow 35 years ?? can you hear that ??? dum dum dum dum everytime the shark was coming?? Still leery of the ocean

We lived near where it was being filmed. I'm in the scene where everyone is running from the water after the little kid was eaten by the shark. In the water/ out of the water/ in the water/ out of the water - all day long. It was a girl scout troop field trip and they made a donation to the troop in exchange for us being in the movie.
this is when I became hooked on being an extra in the movies, so whenever there is filming in the area I'm living I always sign up to be an extra. Don't know why I get such a kick out of it.

I was 7 when it came out. but I did go with my babysitter and her sisters to go watch it at the drive in. It scared the who ha out of me. A couple years later, my DF-who was a jokester or so he thought, put a rubber shark in the tub. I don't know what he was thinking with that one. BUT: DF told me people who fear things don't understand the thing they fear.

So I started reading up on sharks.

I took DD to Sea World a few years back and did the predators tour.
It actually had a profound affect on me. Do I still go in the water? yes.

I watched a show last week about the making of Jaws, it was really interesting.

I remember Peter Benchley who wrote Jaws said one time that he kind of wished he hadn't written it. After Jaws came out, people were just killing sharks no reason.

But Jaws is one of my favorite movies.

Wow, 35 years! I was in my late teens when I saw Jaws. That darn movie kept me out of any water where I couldn't see my feet. I either swim in a pool or in the Caribbean in the clear water. Here in Virginia Beach I still don't go in the ocean past my knees. :lmao:

I didn't see it when it came out...I mean I may have but cosidering I was only two I don't remember if I did. BUT the first time I do remember seeing it I was maybe 7 or 8 ish and I was at my aunts house sleeping over and it was on tv. I don't remember being really scared and being from upstate NY it sure didn't keep me out of the waters because it isn't like we have lots of beaches anyway:rotfl:
About 3 years ago one of my twins became obsesed with Jaws...a game had came out they my cousins son had and wanted to see the movie. I wouldn't let him. BUT they found it dirt cheap on dvd so I finally gave it and said okay get it. HE wouldn't even touch the case:lmao: so I turned it on and the beginning of the movie where the girls goesa down he kept asking why did she want the shark to eat her and so I said okay you can't wtach it yet. SOO I made a deal with him as soon as he would hold the cover he could watch it. It took about a year. Actually after we went to Universal and went on the Jaws ride I told him it was just a machine like the movie. SO we all watched it and I think that was the only other time I had seen it since I had been a kid.
He is still funny about shark things. His sibling like to scare him with pictures of sharks in book and on clothes. BUT they are obsessed with sharks. BUT this year they all told me they don't want to swim at the beach...we live clsoe to va beach:rotfl:I just don't udnerstand for kids who are obsessed with sharks are so scared!!

Hi neighbor, I live in Newport News. I also don't go into water that I can't see, not just for shark factor, but I like to know what is around me. I haven't been to Va. Beach in years.

In 2007, DD and I went to Oahu and swam at Bellow' beach a few months after a man was bitten by a shark. Dd was at first scared and then I told her that sharks are in all water.

Hey there! If you haven't been here...Virginia Beach now has lots more big hotels along the oceanfront but you STILL can't see your feet in the water. I know those big fishies are swimming around out there. ;)

35 years!!! :scared1: I remember it like it was YESTERDAY!!! LOOOOVE that movie! I even get chills everytime I go on the ride in Universal! Robert Shaw was my favorite but I had a mad crush on Roy Scheider.

Now I've gotta go watch it AGAIN!!

Jeez, I was 12 when that movie came out. My mother and my aunt took my sister, my cousins and I to see it that summer while we were all at our cottage on Lake Michigan. I was terrified to go swimming but after much coaxing, finally made it out into the water. My older cousin swam under water and jerked me under by my leg--not only almost causing me to drown from hysteria but my mother was watching from the beach and just saw my head jerked under like that and she about had a coronary. :lmao: Yeah, my cousin got in a bit of trouble for that one!

I was 7 yrs. old and living in Hawaii when it came out. I didn't see the movie. But plenty of my friends saw it and told me about it. Freaked me out! My dad actually read the book while we were at the beach. He actually read most of it sitting on raft in the ocean- Crazy!!!! I didn't see the movie until I was 12 and living in Mississippi- where we didn't go into the Gulf of Mexico. I loved it. I read the book when I was a Senior in High School and living in Arizona. I thought the book was awesome! I did a book report on it.
I'm living in New Mexico now. I'm not too afraid of sharks- just loan sharks.
