March, you are guaranteed crowds because it is warmeut that first week in Jan is the week leading to the WDW Marathon and there are plenty of school districts out that week including ours. We will be there. Last year the same and it was pretty crowded our MK day.
Definitely January. We just went this past January and it was great. Mid to high seventies, no rain, very light crowd level most of the time (maybe a little more on the weekend due to the locals). March would be much more crowded and more chance of rain.
We were there last January 1-7 and the crowds were larger than I expected but still quite manageable. You run into NYEve left overs on the front end and ramping up for the marathon on the back end. We have also gone the first week in March and found that to be lower crowds as well but haven't done that for a couple of years. Also depends on when Easter hits. Enjoy your family vacation!
We have been twice in both months. March is more crowded but not unmanageable. Bear in mind the pools and waterparks will be a little warmer in March. Also, Spring training will be going on so if any in your group are baseball fans, great way to see a game up close.
Jan will be less crowded but weather is not always warm. DW has done the marathon past 2 years and this past Jan it was pretty cold for FL. Jan should offer a less expensive onsite stay than Mar.
Either way, you will be in the World, so have fun!
We've been to Disney those same times, and the largest crowds, by far, were the first week of this past January. I guess because more and more schools in the southeast have Christmas break until the second week of January. I would much rather go to Disney in March, as the weather is so much warmer and nicer then. January is too cool to enjoy the pool, and we also avoided water rides such as Splash and Kali, because it wasn't warm enough out to dry off.
It will be more crowded in March, but we like the warmer weather b/c we like the swimming and the water parks. We also like baseball and Spring Training. We've gone in March the past 2 years. Easter week 2 years ago was VERY crowded. We went this year March 9-15 and didn't find the crowds to be a problem at all. The crowds seem to build as the week went along.
I've never been to WDW in January, but I've been to FL. during this time. The weather can be iffy.
I'm also going in Jan. so I'm glad that I made that decision, but we are also doing Universal Studios and Sea World and Discovery cove, so I'll be there at MK on Jan 1 and then US on 2 and 3 and do 2 more days at Disney and then the Marathon week-end I'll be at Discovery cove and Sea World, then it's a full week at Disney and hopefully less crowded.
