The good news is, DH fixed the fridge -- no service call needed. Turns out it was just a loose wire. It took him a while to find it, but one little jiggle and hey presto! it works again. :confused3 but :yay: anyway!

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you who are soooooo supportive. I really appreciate reading about everyone else's trials and successes. I'm so glad to have found you all!

Goal: 15 no buy days!

1/1 - $0
1/2 - $89.30 (for 2 weeks worth of groceries - this meal planning stuff really works!)
1/3 - $0
1/4 - 37.00 (Darn kid and stuff he likes. I HAVE to take him to see Dinosaur Train when it comes.)
1/5 - $0

And I returned stuff to Kohls, so actually made $16 and some change today!

so far - 3/15[/QUOTE]

I did spend $6 at Target's 90% off clearance today, but I used a gift card that we got for XMas, so I'm not counting it. Tomorrow will be a buy day, then maybe another no-buy on Friday?

Keep up the good work, everyone!

3/12 no-buy days
* Used coupon

1/1/-$2 TRU*, $7 CFA*, $2 Coldstone*, $31 Wegmans/redbox*
1/2-$6 mcd*, $14 Dollar Store
1/3-$0; 8 miles
1/4-$0; Lego* free build
1/5-$0; 3 miles

QVCshopper, you live close enough to a Lego store to go to their free builds? I'm jealous! My boys would adore those!

1/4 - 37.00 (Darn kid and stuff he likes. I HAVE to take him to see Dinosaur Train when it comes.)

msmama, I know what you mean -- for us it's the Lego KidsFest! I must say I'm not too broken up that we've outgrown Thomas the Tank Engine. 7 rides was enough for me! :lmao: Seriously though, as previous posters have mentioned, "doing" is different than "having." Along with my sons, I took my nephew to the Lego thing this year as his birthday present, and it was so much nicer than getting him another toy that he'll play with for a little while, because we've got great memories of the things we did together that day. Hopefully the Dino Train will be one of those things (never heard of it -- hope it's not something that kids love and adults hate! :) )

1/1: groceries (but I forgot how much and don't want to get off the couch!)
1/2: $42 gas, $20 pharmacy, $28 JCPenney, ? Home Depot (again, don't want to get off the couch!). I also returned to Lands' End and Kohl's today, enough to cover what we spent! :) Edited to add: $65 on registration for open swim time. Hopefully we'll get there more often this session than last and I can get some exercise!
1/3: :cool1: (although I feel a bit guilty about it -- the only reason it's a $0 is because I forgot to take the checkbook to pay for after school care.)
1/4: after school care $31.50, take out for dinner ?
1/5: :cool1:

no buy days: 2/10
meals out: 1/5
longest streak: 3!

QVCshopper, you live close enough to a Lego store to go to their free builds? I'm jealous! My boys would adore those!

I live near the King Of Prussia mall, in PA. I think it's the largest mall on the east coast. Anyway, it's great there and this was our 3rd Lego build. It's crowded and you have to get there about 1 hour early. I think someone said you can get the monthly Lego build instructions online, though, if you're interested. Yesterday was a polar bear; he's cute!

Well, I am back in with a new plan. My goal 365 days ago today was to do this for a year. Never thought I'd make it, sure as heck didn't think I'd write down every penny I spent for a year, but I did and while I thought this would only be a one year thing to teach myself, it not only did that but I also like so many people here so much that I don't want to leave.

OK, I gave it some thought. Not to say DH wasn't supportive of this last year, cause he is the most supportive man you could ask for, but something that really bothered him last year was when we'd go without something like milk cause I was trying to strech a no buy day to the next day or something, or let my tank get low cause I didn't want to blow a day on gas. To him groceries and gas are necessities and he said he'd like to see me alter it this year not not include those things. However, I want to continue to record them to keep track cause I think seeing it helped me, so I will continue to record everything but no buy days will now be no extra buy days. We'll see how this works. Also, I recorded every penny spent last year, so I have totaled up each month and my goal for this year is to come under that. Anything I have left over at the end of the month I will put into our savings account.

January 1-$0 :woohoo: Actually, not totally :woohoo: but good for the budget, we were going to go out today while DH worked, but the kids were having fun playing at home so that was good, but we were going to go to Cosmic Bowling tonight when he got off work but he's stuck there, it will be an all nighter, so we decided to hang out here and go with him another time. It isn't as much fun doing those things without him. So, a little bummed we are in but we are going to back some cookies here in a bit and they are having fun playing with their new games. Right now they are building forts for the kittens. :)
January 2-$0 :woohoo: Today was a wonderful day AT HOME! My DH finally didn't have to go into work. He worked till 4am so we slept in. Then we got up and snuggled on the couch and watched football. This afternoon we sampled our candies that we brought back from each country in EPCOT, we took photos for our scrapbook and the kids recorded what they thought of each one and ranked their favorites and least favorites. That was fun. Then tonight I made a nice roast for dinner. Now DH is working (but from home!) I am Dising and the kids are playing Truth or Lies on the Wii. It is a nice way to end vacation, wish it wasn't already over, but looking forward to getting the house back in order.
January 3-$0 :woohoo: I do need to get a few groceries, but they wouldn't count anyway, but I worked really hard today and never got out for them and now I am tired. I will have to go tomorrow. We are out of milk but have pleanty of eggs so we are good for breakfast and pleanty of bread so we are good for lunches. (One of this years resolutions is to declutter a bit (not too much, I did a huge declutter a few years ago and missed my stuff, but halfway would be nice, I worked all day on the kitchen. It isn't done but I made amazing progress!)
Now, I do have to do some shopping, we will see if I do it tonight or tomorrow. DD16 and DD11 need jeans so badly, I didn't realize how bad and I am actually a little embarassed and DD8's b-day is next week and all she wants is for me to replace The Little Mermaid 2, ours broke so I am watching a couple on eBay. Guess it doesn't matter if I do it tonight or tomorrow, but as of now it is a $ day. ETA- I am totally craving a date with my hubby, maybe I can buy jeans, a movie and meet him for lunch tomorrow...hhhmmm... ;)
January 4-$0 :woohoo: I did buy a copy of The Little Mermaid 2 off eBay for DD's b-day, it was $18 but I returned the Perfect Brownie Pan and a game I had bought for DD's b-day. The game I thought was on clearance but was not and the pan, she wanted it but then after I bought it, it looked like a headache to clean and we rarely make brownies so I got back $32.23 so I am calling it a wash. I traded for what she really wanted and saved $15. I also bought groceries but with my DH's system I won't count it, though I am going to record it. ($66.12 groceries) I also paid for dance which I never counted against a no spend day, we consider it a bill but I record it since it is the ony bill I pay-$86
December 5- Target (sympathy card, socks for DD8's b-day, she needed them and anframe on clearance of Kitty's first Christmas) $14.82 Dinner for the kids at Family Night $4.50 (I got a burger, fries, 2 cookies, a rootbeer float and a slush that they shared all of it.) Then we came home and had the dinner I had made, meatloaf, garlic cream cheese mashed potatoes and broccoli.) So under $20, not too bad.

4/15 No Spend Days This Month Looking at making this number higher since I am not counting groceries at least for this month. Not sure what to set it for, this is a trial month I guess.

Total groceries for the month-$66.12
Total gas for the month- $0

My new goal for myself is to come in under the $ amount I spent last January. Here's how I'm doing.
$1278.99 spent last January
-66.12 groceries
-18 b-day gift
+32.23 credit
-14.82 gift, card
-4.50 family night
$1207.78

I did spend $6 at Target's 90% off clearance today, but I used a gift card that we got for XMas, so I'm not counting it.

I did this on Sunday -- bought myself a new pair of shoes but I used merch. credit and Christmas money so I didn't count it. I was feeling guilty but I figured it's not money in the budget so I don't have to account for it, right?

Now, spending my 5yo's Christmas money on her birthday present makes me feel a little bad. But what does Grammie expect when she hands me $30 two weeks before her birthday and I'm still strapped from Christmas? It's not like the child wants anything right now...she's still overwhelmed with Christmas loot. :confused3

Last night I went out to buy a few things (including the Unofficial Guide 2011, couldn't wait for the revised edition in a month or two), but used gift cards so all I ended up paying was 5 cents. Not worth writing...

No Buy Days : 4/15
Gas : 0$ (max 100$)
Groceries : 0$ (max 250$)
Eating out (and snacks) : 9$ (max 100$) (got gift cards, should use them)
Non-necessities : 0$ (max 200$) (trying a lower max, to offset what I spent in December)

01/01 : 0$
02/01 : 0$
03/01 : 0$

04/01 : 9$ (breakfast + lunch)
05/01 : 0$

My goals for this month are:
2 dinners out this month
1 lunch out each week
$150 groceries each week
15 days of not buying anything outside gas, groceries and bills
$100 mad money - anything that's a want not a need

Kira

1/1 - No buy
1/2 - Bought groceries but nothing extra. Did go over budget by quite a bit but I needed to restock lots of staples we haven't bought for the last 2 weeks. Also bought dog and cat food for the month. Hoping I can make up for it the rest of the month. $225
1/3 - No buy
1/4 - my 1 lunch out for the week ($9.08, although it is tax deductible because I plotted a book with my friend). I also bought a cage set for our sugar glider but I ordered it last week so I'm not going to count it ($25).
1/5 - No buy...well, we went out to eat but DH's family paid so that doesn't count.

Had a good day today. Mom and I decided to wait until after dinner to grocery shop as it was snowing on and off all afternoon and we also wanted to get her closet cleaned out. So We went out to dinner to our favorite neighborhood bar and they have half-price appetizers and $1 drafts so the two of us ate for under $20. We then grocery shooped and the bill this week is higher because we needed things like cat food, litter, paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, etc....

Groceries/household- $300/ $196.61 left
Car/gas- $50
Eating out- $50/ $32.37 left

Total- $500/ $378.98 left

I personally don't set a goal of no-buy days.

1. My goal for January is $400. in groceries.
2. No clothing purchases except, need one outfit for DS for a christening we are attending. (Khaki pants, brown shoes should suffice)
3. Gas $100.00
4. My Allowance $100. for all extras.
5. No eating out this month unless it is utilizing a gift card we received as gifts.

We are a family of four, DH, me, DS12, DD10, one dog, two cats and 12 chickens. Newly updated: two pigs on the way, 50 more chickens, 15 turkeys and a hive of honeybees.

Jan 1 $0.00
Jan 2 $47.27 Groceries / $352.73 remaining
$24.00 Gas / $76 remaining
$27.91 Pet smart dog food
$50.34 Target (I bought quicken...I consider that an investment) :teacher
Jan 3 $0.00 No buy :cool1:
Jan 4 $0.00 No buy.

Jan 5 $0.00

Don't be too proud of all of my $0.00 days though......I HAVE to have no buy days....between the household projects around here and the equipment we are buying for the farm I have to free up some cash. It's amazing what I can do when put up against the wall :scared1:. I am proud to say we don't have any type of debt other than our house but I'm looking down the barrel of a short term loan for some equipment and I don't like it. No pre-payment penalty so I plan to funnel all this money I am saving to that.

I'm doing the same thing, sort of. I bought a baby gift for my cousin (her shower is at the end of this month) but I'm not counting it because I used money leftover in my Christmas account to pay for it.

Goal: Spend no more than $100 per week (not including set bills)

1/1 - $17 grocery/paper products
1/2 - $0!
1/3 - $2 postage, $2 grocery, $17 DP's knitting supplies
1/4 - $0!
1/5 - $27 grocery

Weekly total: $65

1/1 - $6.00 -Group On
1/2 - $141.75 Meijer Coupon Savings - $4.75
1/3 - $0
1/4 - $15 special order needle felt book character
$8.50 toothbrushes and toothpaste - donation to retirement home
1/5 - $0

OK after doing this for a few days, I realized that I am going to amend a 2 things and not count them against my "no-spend" days. Dog food and gas. Both of those things I MUST have. It dawned on me when I actually thought about not buying dog food on my way home from work tomorrow because it would ruin my no-spend day. I thought I would just pick it up on Saturday when I know I will be "spending." By doing so, however, I would making a special trip to the pet store and spening more money on gas and wasting my precious weekend time. Same thing with gas..... I can't help if I need gas, and I NEVER purchase things like soft drinks, candy, etc at the gas station anyway. I drive less than $5,000 miles per year, so I don't get gas more than once every few weeks, anyway.....

Now I will continue to count my groceries. I always purchase things I don't "need." wine, flavored coffee creamer, etc, so that will go in the "spending" category.

No spend days
2/10

1/1: $0!
1/2: $0!
1/3: $11.10 Popeyes
1/4: $6.25 Subway
1/5: $23.16 Gas

$0 Buy Days: 2
Total Spent: $40.51/$375=11%
Month Over: 5/31=16%

$375 breakdowns:
grocery: 200.00-0=200.00
eating out: 50.00-17.35=32.65
gas: 75.00-23.16=51.84

I found a gas station with gas for $2.89. That was the cheapest I could find. Most of the stations around here are right around $2.95. :headache:

Tomorrow is Epiphany. It's the first day of Carnival season, which ends with Mardi Gras. :jester: I just might *have* to stop on my way home and pick up a king cake! :rolleyes1

Hey Guys, I had to share. I just won a Wii game tonight on Facebook. It will be here just in time for DD's birthday. I am so excited! It isn't an iPad like someone :rolleyes1 (QVCShopper :goodvibes ) but I am excited. Seriously, I can't imagine how excited you must have been winning that cause I am pretty excited right now for this game!

Congrats, MickeyMom!!! Glad you won a Wii game just in time for your daughter's b-day. And I'm loving the iPad, although my son keeps taking it to play his little games! :rotfl2:

The cheapest gas here was $3.09... are king cakes good? Might have to get one at Wegmans this year!

Yes! I don't know about out of the state, but here we have some fantastic ones... traditional style (cinnamon) or filled (fruit and cream cheese, or chocolate and nuts, praline. etc...). I went to undergrad in PA but I had relatives ship them to me from home, so don't know what they'd taste like from Wegmans. They can be budget and waistline busters though! Especially when you're doing them around the office and have them every day throughout the season (most of them have a tiny plastic baby in them, and the person who finds the baby has to buy the next one, so it goes on every day until Mardi Gras.)

Ugh $3.09. You'd think ours would be even cheaper since the refineries are down the street, but no.

King cakes are a close relative to cinnamon rolls in taste. Depending on who makes them, they can be very good. I love cinnamon rolls, so King Cakes = :lovestruc

You can find them year round, but they are technically a Carnival season food, so I try to limit my consumption of them to Epiphany through Mardi Gras just to keep it special.

I work in a school. I spotted the first one yesterday, and two today. Epiphany isn't until tomorrow and they're already trickling in. On Fridays they come pouring into the building. It really starts to get a little out of hand. And Mardi Gras is not until March 8th this year! :faint:
