anyone from nj ever drive to disney in january, thinking about doing that or taking a train, how long of a drive is it, i heard 17 hours?, any stories would be greatly appreciated.

We did Orlando to central NJ in 16 1/2 hours....
We were going to stop on the way home but
by the time we got to Virginia we decided to go all the way.
** My friend is also nicknamed "lady lead foot."
and this was with 4 adults in a Toyota Tundra...we were ready to get home!**

With kids, you should expect closer to 20 hours straight through. We stop overnight when we take the kids.
Clarke's Inn in Santee SC is a good hotel...$50 suites with AARP. (We used my mom's card for that one)
We've also gone as far as Savannah GA...that's about 4 hours from Orlando. With a 4pm check in time, we were able to tour Daytona Beach before driving into Orlando.

You would have to drive to Virginia to catch a train to Orlando and unless you like to sleep upright in a chair or are the size of a 3 yr old, paying for a sleeper is recommended.

Hope this helps...
